  • Kind of just seems like advertising. I might be wrong.

  • no, because it's a special offer that they haven't advertised.

    • carlscott1982's comment may have been in relation to your original title. Perhaps not, but in any event, please try to provide a clear and specific title. See the Title Guidelines.

  • Yeah, we get bombarded by telemarketers about this kind of things a fair bit, hence people don't really have that a great impression of it.

So I assume 5% on fuel and groceries are rebates from red energy that you have to claim? So is it straight from the shops? If so do you know which ones? It's pretty useless if Woolworth and Coles aren't included.

    • exactly - you cant see the participating retailers unless you log in - can someone provide a list of participating retailers?

  • Well included in the energy rebate they give you a card and they give you the rebate at the store instantly.

While this is not a bad deal, users should compare rates on Uswitch or a similar site.

I'm using Neighbourhood Energy in VIC (where electicity is sold at the same price) and I'm getting 10% back, no contract.

  • getting 10% elec rebate with vic elec. so will pass on 7%

    • I'm with Vic Elec also but only getting 7%. Were you getting 10% from the moment you signed up? I saw Neil's comment above and tried to compare, then saw that Vic Elec is actually offering 11% to new users. I'm wondering why the tariffs and discount differ for different customers?

I also saw that Neighbourhood Energy and another provider are offering 8% and 10%, both of which are higher than mine. Not sure if it's because my tariffs are a little lower or something, so confused. When I compare the perks, should I take into account my tariffs as well (or are all providers required to charge the same tariff)?

      • Depends on your state. Victoria</strike> has the same tariff (something to do with when electricity was privatized). EDIT: SORRY that's incorrect info. The only downfall with Neighbourhood Energy is the bills are monthly instead of quarterly.

        • Yup, I'm in VIC. So that'd mean I don't have to be looking at the tariffs at all, but just the perks when I compare? I tried using the sites you mentioned above to compare, and thought the tariffs were slightly different between each providers. Maybe I've done something wrong. After looking that the comparison, I was thinking of calling Vic Elec to try and get a better offer but was afraid I'd sound too clueless if they start telling me it's because my tariffs are lower etc. I appreciate your input, thanks!

@ohsnap: Sorry, looked it up. I'm actually wrong about the tariff but that site Uswitch site should point you to the cheapest provider.

            But as an example:

I was with Click Energy at .1692 per KW/h

With Neighbourhood, it's .1644 per KW/h for the first 11.17KW/h per day then
the .1756 per KW/h for the remainder

Barely a difference between the 2, but Click offered a $50 credit ($25 on sign up, $25 after 12 months). Quarterly billing.

Neighborhood did $10 Coles card plus 10% back, monthly billing.

It's quite easy switching back and forth, so you could collect credits and such, at the end of the day biggest % back makes the difference.

@neil: I've just called Vic Elec and they've decreased my rates by a bit and increased my discount to 11% from 7%. It'd make quite a bit of difference considering my energy bill is about $500 per quarter! So thanks again Neil for mentioning the comparison website and for your input above.

  • The web page is confusing. At the top it says:

"Your Good Life Rewards™ card helps you save in the following ways:

    • in-store – simply present your card at the time of purchase
    • online – enter the promotional code or follow links when making online purchases
    • pre-purchase – enjoy discounts on pre-paid gift cards and vouchers"

    but below it says:

"Fuel and Groceries discounts are only available through pre-paid gift cards which can be pre-purchased over the phone or on-line."

Which implies you don't just get your 5% off - you have to buy gift cards and use them. If so this is a lot of effort. And as noted earlier there's no list of retailers unless you log in.

    • I've been in similar club where they sell you a $100 Coles/Safeway gift card for $95.

The instore is probably like the RACV/RACQ/RACNSW? where you show your card and get a discount at say Rebel Sport or Hoyts.

if you have a Presidential Card you can buy Coles Gift cards and Wish Gift cards with 5% discount.
it looks like they affiliate with the Presidential Card program.
