Not sure but you could probably double-dip with the agoda.com $50US cashback for $200US spent using paypal, I'd check with them first if your eligible for it - I'd also be quick cause it expires on the "edit" now 3rd NOV 09. • received from Paypal.

  • Got 1 out of 5 so far.

  • Made 5 AU$50+ purchases but received no PayPal cashback yet, whats going on?

  • Also only got cashback on my purchases above 50USD so far I think since I had 2 over $50usd and i got $40 back

    • I think this is what that is happening as I have got only 1 transaction that is over USD50 with another 3 just over AUD50 and I have only got 1 cashback. I have the email from Paypal staff regarding the eligibility of my 1st transaction that is just over AUD50 but not USD50, she said it is eligible, so this shouldnt be happening. We shall see if we receive anything for the other transactions till the end of the day.

      • 3 x $50 usd purchases -> 3 casback's … 2 x $48 usd purchases -> 0 cashback's.
        Coincidence???
Anyone have any sub $50 usd cashback's processed?

  • happy happy, got my $20 cashback this arvo.

  • My 5x $50 AUD were all a little less than $50 USD and I received zilch. I carefully checked each was over $50 AUD without freight when ordering so Paypal will have to cough up,as I was always in accord to their Terms & Conditions. What a hassle to have to lodge a complaint. Yes Macadamia I think your theory is correct, gives me hope at least one Paypal employee has acknowledged the mistake.

    • Mine on DX was $49.72 USD and $55+ AUD, haven't got mine yet. I was pretty sure the T&C refer to AUD. Still waiting….

  • Still have only received one of the two cashbacks. My two DX transactions came to a total of $56.15 USD and $54.95 USD and so, I'm confident it agrees with the T&C.

    • I reckon, anyone have a link to contact them?

      • Log into your Paypal account and at the bottom there is a Contact Us link which gives various options including 1800 number 6am-10pm Mon to Sat.

  • Just done it….15 minutes of listening to voice prompts and they tell me the office is closed. Will try again tomorrow. Cheers

  • I have only got 1 out of 4 cash backs. They are due today - which means that if I don't get it by next week, I think we should all write complaints to the Department of Fair Trading. This would constitute as misleading and deceptive conduct. It also means that I shopped for nothing!

  • It appears any help from paypal wont be until tomorrow….

  • Thank you so much OP. I made 5 separate purchases from the same store and got cashback for all of them. That's $100 AUD cashback

  • Some good news for people that mightn't have recieved all their cashbacks.

I gave PayPal a call in the morning and eventually, was informed that after double checking through my transactions, they would be handing it to their "specialists" to resolve. So far, I've only recieved 2 out of my 5 transactions (4 dealextreme and 1 eastbay) and was told a supervisor will e-mail me the outcome later during the week.

My suggestion is calling them directly if you want to be safe about getting your cashback.

  • After getting no cashback I emailed Paypal and they confirmed my five below $50 USD but above $50 AUD were eligible for cashback. She said some accounts have not been credited and that another department will look into my matter. Consultant requested I wait a few days for reply or update to Paypal account. This was reassurring and it seems money will be paid. Phew I need this for Xmas presents!

  • +1

I just called paypal and they said just wait for another 24 hours..
I guess that they have not realised that they made a mistake of using the $50US as the limit..

    • Good on you.

  • I just received an reply email from Paypal to inform me I wouldn't get my 4th and final $20 back from this promotion. The cds I ordered from BangCD came to 28.97 GBP which is roughly $52 AU. However because its only around $47 US I've been told that transaction doesn't qualify for the cash back. I'm guessing this could be the same reason why some of you may not be getting those remaining $20 payouts because Paypal reckons it has to be more than $50 US.

  • That's total BS, because I spoke to someone and put in an enquiry and they said I would get my refund!! ggrr.. I will definitely be complaining if I don't get my money.

  • +1

Like others I got some cash back but I am still waiting for cash back for my orders which were over 50 AUD but under 50 USD. I will not be happy if I don't get it. If they try and argue the figures are in USD I'll be demanding to know why I only got 20 AUD cash back and not 20 USD.

  • I believe the one I am waiting on is below US 50 but AUS 50. Good point Marlboro Man…

  • I spoke to someone on the phone and I pointed out that since the cashback is in AUD then the transaction should be considered in AUD. I called paypal and the woman that I spoke to on the phone was very nice. She went through the terms and conditions with her supervisor and didn't understand why I didn't get my cashbacks. So, she put through a request for me to get the rest of my money.

I advise you all to either send an email or call them and point out the cashback is in AUD. Also, the promo was from an com.au website so since they didn't specify the currency, it should be in AUD.

    Hope this helps.

    • I thought the promotion t&cs states that you had to spend over $50 AUD?

That's from memory though…I have nothing else to prove it

  • This is such crap, mine was just under $50 US because I thought it only had to be $50AUD had I know that I had to spend like 40c more to get $20 back, I would have found something. Screw paypal, that's dodgy.

  • That's fine that your transactions were under $50USD. Mine were below as well, but they should be converting that to AUD and then it would be over the requirement of $50AUD. I don't think the t&c stated the currency that it had to be in. Ring them up and complain

  • Raised my complaint, I spent $49.72 USD (== $55 AUD) as they required and now they are trying to piss me off.

  • 2 of mine were over $50USD yet i have only received 1 cashback…
Am I the only one who hasnt received a cashback for a transaction over $50USD

    • me too, just emailed PayPal to complain

  • Called them….geez that was fun….apparently they are aware of issues relating to both currency conversion and qualifying vendors. Will take 24-72 hours for the relevant department to investigate.

I would suggest ringing at a convenient time as it took 20-25 minutes of recorded messages to finally be put on hold and wait for an operator. I am convinced that PayPal will only fix issues based on individual requests, so it will be in the best interest of those out there with problems to contact them directly.

"You may contact PayPal’s Customer Service at (02) 8223 9500. Please note that our Customer Service is vailable from Monday thru Saturdays 5:30 AM to 10:00 PM, Sydney Time."

  • Ok - maybe dont jump the gun too soon.

The existing Paypal promo that shows doesnt say anything about the deal being in US$ it talks $ only and it has Australian Financial services info at bottom -

viz The PayPal service is provided by PayPal Australia Pty Limited (ABN 93 111 195 389) which holds an Australian Financial Services Licence, number 304962.

So under our regulator I would be surprised if they could claim its supposed to be USD without expressly stating this especially when the dollars being paid back are AUD

The Terms link says that the refund is in AUD and there is no other reference to USD or any other currency. So when purchases are made in say English pounds from the UK retailers then logically its hard to know which currency would be used - dollars are not just USD or AUD

Then the first page of the promo says you'll get back $20 on $50 spend and the TC states the refund is AUD by definition they are saying both purchase and refund are both AUD otherwise they would say in T&C USD 100 and AUD 20. Mixing currency without explaining it would be seen by ACCC as misleading. And there enough people for the ACCC to be politically motivated to resolve this.

ALL that said when I rang, they said there are still more refunds being loaded, and to wait a few days before lodging a complaint. Then they will rectify the problem. (It was a call centre so lets hope she is right)

Complain quietly and calmly - give them some time, some marketing boffin probably screwed up - might have meant USD but missed the details - now its monday they will probably be keelhauled over the bosses desk, but PayPal most likely will resolve this, the publicity and the ACCC will ensure that

    • No there was no jumping up and down…all is good. Helpful lady on the other end of the phone, just a less than helpful way to get through to her. She indicated there were multiple issues that were being investigated, obviously after receiving other claims.
I am confident it will be sorted, but would still advise those with concerns to contact PayPal on their own behalf, rather than hoping for a blanket solution.
Initially it appeared to be a currency issue, but there apparently other scenarios where the cashback has not been applied, no mention of delays in my case. Just a heads up on my experience.
Apologies if I seemed to be quick out the barriers, .

    • Here is the full T&C they replied me in Email, it clearly says $50 AUD, so that's not a problem. I paste the full T&C below:

  • This is a scam! I made two purchases both around AU$55.00. Haven't seen any cash back in my Paypal account. Be nice if they followed their own T&C. Surely it's not that difficult to automate payments when certain conditions are met. i.e. valid store, within date, correct amount. Also sent them an email.

    • Currency isn't the only issue, ask them to investigate your claims, see how you go.

  • No cashback for me yet!

I've been on the phone pressing through menus but I can't even get to speak to an operator.

Everything is automated and they are running me around.

Finally. I clicked on more information on product features and there was an option FOR AGENT.

I pressed that and spoke to Luis. He 'verified' my transaction and then 'sent an email' about this. He then said it should appear in a day or two.

  • +1

none for me either, was on the phone to them, just hung up…..

apparently they are taking names of people who id didn't go though too…. sounds to me they are only going to pay people who complain! bet a heap of people will forget… but will be interested to see if they give money to people who dont complain…

man no later than 4th, they should be paying me interest as well… pretty dodgy they cant keep track of it,

sounding pretty dodgy to me… you'd think someone like paypal wouldn't want to loose face by being dodgy as they handle your money.

trust is a large thing to loose takes a long time to build up.

PS on the menu when i didnt know what to press, i pressed my account or something then there is a special one for paypal promos, then i hit agent.
it was button 3 or 4…

  • Got a reply with almost no explaination but a full T&C, maybe they think I could figure out the reason myself.

    • +1

This paypal refund is a joke and the people at Paypal need to get their act together and make sure they do the right thing by their customers.

One of the purchases I made received a partial refund due to I was unable to apply a discount code. Just spoke to paypal and they have advised me its not eligible, and I said but the amount is over the 50AUS so I believe it should be. I believe from the T&C that if the item is fully refunded then its not entitled. One would expect that if you received a full refund you wouldnt be entitled, not rocket science. How many other people received a partial refund because an item was unavailable but still over the 50 - paypal need to add these situations in their report for the cashback. Apparently they are going to contact the merchant to confirm the transaction.

      What a joke paypal…….

    • *2 got that and it was unclear if i was going to get the cash back or not… in some places it seemed like i was but in other places, NFI.

why send the terms and conditions though unless your not going to pay… i think they have to escalate to get it approved.

anyway, my purchase follows the T&C so should be fine.

  • +1

Wow, this is really dodgy. I missed out on this deal, but I clearly remember the original page didnt mention anything about US dollars. Hope you guys get your cashback.

  • No cashback yet.. What should we do if paypal refuse to pay?

  • After getting an inadequate response through email from paypal, I called them today, and they said that the cashback is done is batches. I will be informed by email when I do get the cashback. Anyway, if I don't get it in 2-3 days, I'm calling them up again.

    • Still waiting for them as well, called them lady on phone gave same answer.

I also sent an email and got the response below, which I hope is not true…

"Thank you for taking the time to contact PayPal with your concerns. My name is Joel and I am happy to assist you further.

I understand that you are enquiring about the cashback for DealExtreme. I apologise for any inconvenience this may have cause you.

Upon reviewing your account, I can confirm that since we are only a
payment processor it would be better to contact DealExtreme about the cashback. You may ask them about the cashback promotion that they have and you may check also the terms and conditions. Please be advised that the DealExtreme has the total control when they will be giving the cashback.

Thank you for choosing PayPal, we appreciate your business with us."

    • Yep, I've just phoned paypal, and been given the usual "2-3 more days" story.

As I mentioned to "Wil" (the guy on the phone), these delays are contrary to the original terms and conditions of the offer which stated the cash-back would be deposited no later than the 4th of December.

The only concrete information I got from Paypal is that the weather in the Philippines (the location of the call center) is hot, humid and sunny!

      Original spiel from Paypal

"Sit back, relax and wait for your orders to be delivered + get
$20 cash back into your PayPal account by 04-Dec-2009*"

      Relax my arse!

      Factoid of the day:

      $20 AUD = 843 Philippine Pesos

  • I've just recently rung the "Help" desk in Manila (1800 073 263) which ended with me asking to speak to a supervisor & being put on hold and then being hung up on of course…apparently standard PayPal practice.

Essentially I was told that the $20 money back promotion was nothing to do with PayPal, and my problem was with the online merchants (Deal Extreme in my case) who were really responsible for any money back offers; not PayPal.

When I asked if I should do a "Charge-back" (look it up!) on my credit card against what appears to be a fraudulent transaction, I was again told that would probably be the best idea as PayPal wasn't really involved.

Have a look a your Credit Card Providers T&C and I think you will find that you are protected, & perfectly entitled to demand, and guaranteed a charge-back (full refund) of any monies obtained from your credit card in dubious circumstances. (Along with most of the civilised world, Visa & Mastercard service providers & banks loathe PayPal and are happy to faciltate a full refund of dodgy transactions.)

An email to Deal Extreme or whoever you purchased from, suggesting that some elements of PayPal feel a Charge-back is the best way to deal with your problem should stir the pot and generate some action.

    Go for it…

    • Nice try Paypal - this is between Paypal and the retailers. They are the ones who stiched up this shoddy deal.

  • Screw Paypal - Let's go legal!

  • Received 2 cashbacks out of 4 transactions. :(
I emailed PayPal a couple of days ago, but I have not received a response. Is there a special form to fill in in order to file a complaint?

    • Contact PayPal’s Customer Service at (02) 8223 9500, select the Talk to an agent option. Sending an email will just request that you call them.

  • +1

Here is my experience: after reading whats posted here, I wrote to paypal. 1 out of the 3 emails I received was actually positive. I rang Paypal this morning, and spoke to a consultant. He looked at my details and put me on hold for a while. He came back and explained that he applied for a credit for me, and although there might be a chance that I might not get the AUD$40, he saw no reason why I shouldn't. A little after midnight, my email received a notice to tell me the paypal transaction is completed and that I have the $40 in my account. In Summary,
    1) Ring the Sydney number 2) select to talk to an agent 3) explain you are after the Cashback Promotion and the transactions you made 4) ask nicely for the agent to help you get your money that might have been delayed due to computer systems issues 5) wait for the transaction to be completed

    Hope this helps

    • Alas, didn't work for me. Before i was ever offered the credit, i was told 'your PayPal account has been forwarded to the section dealing with this, we are aware of the problem and that it's our - and not the merchants - fault; cashbacks are being done in batches'. As long as all that is actually true, i'm ok with it. But, i'll believe it when i see it - god knows when my 'batch' will be got around to. Would have preferred your experience of the on-the-spot individuated credit.

Still, at least they're acknowledging they are in the wrong and not flicking it back onto the merchants now.

      • Likewise - similar response - so they are at least consistent at present - so we'll wait and see - nice for people to update us if they are successful

        • Any new updates folks?

  • just called just then, guy told me that it is not their problem… had to sort it out with DealsExstreme…. sent them an email… see how we go…

ps. asked the guy 3 times "are you 100% sure about this"

    • Well that's BS, this has nothing to do with DX and everything to do with PayPal. they tried to pedal me the same line, until I said I wasn't going to hang up until the operator read the terms of this specific offer. He then changed his tune and said "oh yes, there has been a processingdelay at our end….".

This offer is turning into a shamozzle to say the least. This is the first paypal offer I have engaged in, I suspect I won't be as eager next time.

  • +2

It is a great shame that this cash back did not work out as straight forward as the $50 cash back I got for my netbook with Catch. Having said that, it is wonderful of Paypal to run these promotions.
It is obvious that Paypal ran into some sort of computer issues, regardless it is oversight or otherwise. As far as the customer is concerned, we just want the cash back. As far as Paypal Call Center is concerned, they just want to close the ticket. To create a Win-Win outcome, the customer, thats you and me, could help the Call Center by giving them a task that they could accomplish. Asking them to fix the computers, is not possible, because it is the Call Center, not Paypal programmers. By giving the Call Center agent, the necesseary transaction details, you are helping him or her to achieve a mutual beneficial outcome. By suggesting that he or she help you get AUD$20 per transaction, you are stating an goal that can be achieved. A successful transaction require both sides come out in front. Keep this in mind, and we can all enjoy more good deals…

  • Just called Paypal on their 1800 number. Lots of fun fighting with their telephone system (couldn't find the 'Talk to an agent' option, so I just mashed an incorrect button until it gave me someone!), and struggling to communicate with their actual customer service rep. Have been waiting on hold for 20 minutes in total so far..sigh..

Same spiel for me as everyone above so far — they're having "technical issues" with their system and apparently no one is receiving cashbacks and they're all working "double time" to fix the "issues". Waiting for a supervisor to talk to me (expecting them to hang up the phone).

Methinks this'll be the first/last offer from PayPal I take up.

    • Ha ha! Asking for a supervisor FTW.

Seems like that's what you've got to do. The original guy was almost going to hang up on me but after stressing I wanted to speak to a supervisor & wasn't got to accept no for an answer, I got onto "Chris", one of the supervisors. Immediately, he's said they'll credit my account with $20 within 24-48 hours and to call them back if I haven't.

My suggestion: do the same and hopefully we'll all win. :)

Now to wait and see if the $$ will come in. Will post back when/if it does.

      • You must have been lucky. I rang and tried to do this. Got into a bit of a barney with one of their supervisors ('Michael', though, not 'Chris') which went round and round in circles. He stated outright that what they did for you 'can't be done'. Half of his waffle was more nonsense about it being in tandem with Merchants and not just PayPal's responsibility and you've gotta wait etc. etc.

Mind you, it's amusing the difference between what they tell customers and what they tell the businesses involved. Even though it reads as PayPal's responsibility, i emailed Book Depository a few days ago just to cover all bases (my overdues are the $100 AUD for $20 AUD back), and this is the response i got:

We have spoken to PayPal directly regarding this matter, and they have confirmed that responsibility for the cashback lies with PayPal Australia, and not the businesses involved, please see the response below:

"The promotion is a PayPal funded campaign released out of PayPal Australia and therefore the customer/s that have not received the reward for spend on your site, should not be in contact directly with yourselves (as per the Terms and Conditions of the promotion outlined in your email link). It is the responsibility of PayPal Australia to offer the cash back and free delivery costs."

Our account manager has contacted PayPal Australia, and if you contact PayPal again then they should be able to resolve this matter for you.

        Kind Regards,

        Tom

Having never had a single problem with Book Depository, over copious orders, i'm inclined to trust them (and they actually respond to emails, which also gives them more credit).

The whole thing is just a monumental stuff up. I'd be happy to wait if i was convinced they were actually fixing it and it would be paid back within a reasonable timeframe. But i've heard so many different stories now, with so many different slants, i'm not convinced they know what they're doing (if they are actually doing anything and aren't simply stonewalling until enough time has passed for customers to 'forget'). I've lodged a complaint with the Financial Ombudsman. If my money goes in prior to that case getting checked, fair enough, if not fingers crossed someone with a larger stick will be able to drag the money owed out of them.

Interesting their 'policy' on this chops and changes as they'd like it to. Like you say, a monumental screw up all round and I'd be inclined to question if they're actually going to do anything at all. There's a heck of a lot of interest to be earned by PayPal on the money in their bank account for every day that they don't give it out.

I only just happened to remember about this the other day and finally got around to chasing it up. Other people who qualified may not have realised or simply won't remember — bonus for them.

At least companies (Bonds, etc) actually come through and don't make you fight for it.

Is it possible to make a "collective" complaint to the Financial Ombudsman, where several people make complaints on a same thing? If it is possible, would it make any difference?

          • @leiiv: Not sure. I've never actually lodged one before this one (never had a company behave quite this poorly before). I imagine, if enough people seem to be complaining about the same thing - or something very similar - it'd possibility mould into one larger push.

I've read one other person say they've lodged a complaint and another who plans on lodging one. So, if you've been dudded as well (on this or the other $100 AUD for $20 AUD back, which had the same money-back-by date), i'd suggest go ahead and put one in. I'm sure if they get a pile of them - and PayPal doesn't have a leg to stand on; which i don't believe they do - the more complaints they get the faster this thing will be resolved. Well, at least i hope it gets resolved - it's only $40 (in my case - two $20's), but PayPal's been so appalling i'm on my high horse a bit now. lol. It's become a principle thing.

Have to agree it's becoming a joke. Spent 46.90 USD for which Paypal charged me a whole 52.44 AUD.

Phoned them just now and they said I’m eligible and will definitely be getting it, then she changed her mind and said there’s a chance I’m not eligible.

She reckoned it was the merchant’s promotion and the merchant hasn’t paid, however Paypal has batched them and is funding them from their own pocket.

No time frame but she hoped within a month…

I just received an email back saying that the transaction had to be US$50, not AU$50.
I'm frustrated because that is not what the terms and conditions said.

    • +3

That's totally BS, I received an email with full T&C from paypal, and the AU$50 was clearly stated. You could find it from the previous page (page 3), and search for my ID.
Paypal is just playing with us, and wish we could forget our 20 bucks when the game becomes boring.

Shame on Paypal, could not imagine an international company like PayPal has such dodgy behavior.

  • +1

Can anyone imagine a promotion with 256 + and only one - votes ends up like this?

  • +1

Dissapointed with Paypal. I have two eligible transactions one with over 50 USD, one under 50 USD while over 50 AUD, but neither of them got the $20 cash back. Had sending them serveral emails, but the answers were the same— they are working on it, just wait.

So pissed off about this! Sent them an email and was told to lodge a dispute. Tried lodging two disputes, one against DealExtreme and one against Focalprice. Must be a day or two over 45 days because my dispute with Focalprice was automatically closed. I think this might be worthy of informing consumer affairs. It's not as if we are trying to use this promotion in a dodgy way. It is PayPal's responsibility that if they advertise a promotion and the sellers don't follow through that they ban the seller from trading using PayPal and pay all of their customers the cashback as promised. Not mess everyone around and make them jump through a number of hoops when it clearly states "Sit back, relax and wait for your orders to be delivered and get $20 cash back into your PayPal account by 4 December 2009". Surely this should have been a no-brainer for them, but I think their total incompetence will cause me to certainly think twice before I enter another promotion with PayPal. There's nothing more frustrating than spending the time to write a well constructed, logical and factual email and then receive a templated irrelevant email in return, especially when it diverts you to a section of their site which doesnt seem to address cashback offer disputes (only faulty item or unauthorised transactions).

I'm at a loss as to why Paypal keep asking people to lodge disputes or follow the issue up with the seller. The one refund of $20 I did receive is from "PayPal Australia Pty Ltd" not the seller. This is a PayPal offer, not a seller cahsback offer.

Edit: No apparently I'm wrong, the money gets xfered from the merchant to Paypal, and then Paypal makes the $20 deposit under their own name.

Got my $20 from PayPal the other day. Small compensation for the hundreds of dollars they have stitched me up for in eBay seller fees and exchange rate gouging over the years.

  • I never got my cash back. I purchased from dealextreme when the deal said $20 cash back on a $50 purchase but now the deal says $20 back on a $100 purchase. Who do I email my complaint to?

I ordered Genuine Sony Dualshock 3 Wireless Controller for Playstation 3 $56.31 USD.

  • Another 31 minutes to the call centre, same stories as above, all DX's fault according to them and sounded like they were getting a lot of similar calls. To me though PayPal should be responsible.

Will wait and see… I have 3 transactions all about US$46-$47 in the offer.

  • Out of interest, what is the lowest DX purchase that someone has recieved a cashback for?

Of course not many who got the cashbacks will probably read this now!

    • +1

$47.43 USD and $50.54 USD, got both cashbacks on the 04/Dec.

I had no idea so many ppl are having problems with this cashback till someone posted this on another deal shortly ago… i'm disappointed that paypal did not take adequate steps to ensure the quality of this offer, despite the value of their proposition.

  • Mine at DX was $49.78 USD and no cashback for me.
For my revenge, I might occasionally use paypal to buy some very little amount crap from DX with free shipping, so paypal pay the transaction fee, DX pay the postage, and I will keep in mind that one of them owe me 20 bucks and then dump the crap.

    • +1

I don't think Paypal can absolve themselves of this DX shamble, after all this is a paypal promotion in partnership with DX. Paypal should cough up the cashback money now, and pursue DX in its own time.

  • I just spoke to Paypal on (02) 8223 9500, then I just bashed the phone and got an operator. I got the normal BS wait a week and it will be processed. I asked to speak to a supervisor and after speaking to a supervisor they escalated it into some black hole and gave me the same message. I ran at 8:30am so I actually spoke to someone who could speak English. Their call centre must divert to different parts of the world at different times. If you are going to ring to complain this was a good time and I also didn't wait on hold. If anyone has had this story and actually received the cash back let me know, from what I have read no-one has yet.

    • Same crap here I'm trying to wade through atm. I actually got somewhere last week (see above) and was told the cashback would be paid (with certainty!) in 24 to 48 hours. That was Friday last week and it's Tuesday now.

Just got off the phone with them right now and they've said now I have to wait between 3 to 5 working days on an email update (that may never come). The supervisor was a complete pain and wasn't even sure I was eligible any more.

      Hopeless.

EDIT: How many people do you reckon have PayPal accounts in the world? Apparently "millions" of people took up this offer cashback..or so says the latest supervisor.

      • 'millions' lol. Well this offer was exclusive to Paypal Austrlia and there's only 20-22 million people in Australia so if they're right about more than 1 million then I guess that's one in every 10 people.

  • found that I haven't received any cashbacks from my 2 dx purchases.

called paypal but waited over 10 mins and gave up.

  • +1

I managed to get my $60 cash back after sending two firmly worded emails. Only problem is that paypal was too slow and I already lodged a complaint with FOS (I gave them a deadline of 1 week to pay before I lodged a complaint).

I have the feeling Paypal will only pay if you keep bugging them, so my suggestion is don't give up.

    • Thanks for the tip prospex, I just sent out my first firm e-mail. I was patient until now so I'll see how mine goes, they still owe me $40!

      • Got the rest of my cashbacks now :D thanks again prospex!

    • Well, i've rang them three - or is it four? - times, emailed them three times. I've gone so far as to directly copy, with details substituted for mine, an email of someone who did successfully get his money. So far nothing.

I've lodged a complaint with the FOS, but have yet to hear back from them (did it mid-late last week). Running out of options… Just gotta keep pushing and see if i fluke one of their staff who hasn't got the line yet and accidentally does the right thing (as absurd as that sounds).

  • +1

Can someone please post the (strongly worded) email that worked with Paypal.
    That would be really great.

  • I made my call just now to the sydney number, and seems the agent didn't find any reason for no cashback. She submitted my case to some other team and I got the usual one week time blabla. Then I told her I was patient enough for being waiting for two weeks, if the money isn't there by next week, I will do a chargeback. So let's wait and see.

    • i had my case submitted to some other team too and I never got my cashback

  • ordered 1 from DX and got cash back (4/12/09). now trying to withdraw it to my bank and just learning that theres a $1 withdrawal fee.
1st time for me to take sent-money out of paypal. Guessing I should just wait until I need to use paypal again to buy something online then use the cash-back ($20), so I dont get charged a fee, right?

    cheers

PS hope everyone here gets there cash-back (soon or eventually). Don't give up and sorry I cant be helpful

    • Correct just leave it there for future purchases to save the $1 fee

      • +1

There's no fee for withdrawing $150 or more, so you could add $130 of funds from a bank account but that would probably take 4 days and then another 4 to withdraw it.

  • Sorry I posted before scrolling to page 4. I was just wondering if anyone else hasn't received paypal cash back. I spent $47 USD at DX and haven't received my cash back. Just shoot my first email to paypal support.

    • Got the $20 at 4.47am today. Just in time to buy the christmas present :)

  • Email reply from PayPal: I understand that your concern is when to receive the $20.00 AUD cash
back. We apologise for the delay, we are in the process of crediting the amount by batches. At present, we do not have a specific date to provide you but rest assured we have taken note of the details of your account and forwarded the same to the relevant department.

    • Yeah, i've heard that a few times. Be more convincing if anecdotally, at least, there was evidence of any 'batches' post December 4 actually having been credited. There's the odd individual - if they've pushed hard enough and/or fluked someone doing the right thing at the PayPal end (a rep perhaps not yet in on the 'tell em no/delay' loop) - but no 'groups of people', unprompted, who missed out, have spoken of being 'gotten around to' as yet.

    • They paid the $20 today :)
