What if I don't look Australian?

    • care to define what an 'Australian' looks like… ?

      • Hard to define, but you can tell, especially with a group of people. Clothing, mannerisms.
Its dead easy to tell a group of Asian Australians (e.g. a family) from a group of Asian tourists.

The guy wearing the cork-hat is definitely a tourist :-)

      http://www.bunnings.com.au/9-3l-assorted-multipurpose-plasti… - $0.90

Cut some eye holes, pop it on your head and Ned's your uncle

      • The might think you are robbing the place and give you more than a free pie!

        • Such is life

  • Valid for Perth too

    • Perth is better. You get a meal voucher. Salmon salad or meatballs beats a pie :)

      • That's so un-Australian!

I'd much prefer it if they simply paid their dues in this country.

    • Wouldn't it be great if Tony Abbott, Joe Hockey and Arnie Corman had the guts and interest of the nation at heart and went after these massive tax-dodgers like Ikea, Apple, Google, etc.

      Won't happen in my lifetime.

      • The wonder is that Ikea's competiton, those which pay a fair rate, aren't squealing like stuck pigs about a level playing field. The UK conservatives are on the right track: http://www.theaustralian.com.au/business/wall-street-journal…

      • @jdr Wouldn't it be great if Tony Abbott, Joe Hockey & whoever that last guy is weren't lining their own pockets with millions of dollars for attending work 10 weeks out of 52 & getting to fly around the world at everyone else's expense….
Not to mention all the former politicians who receive more pension money in one year than a disabled or elderly pensioner does in about 10 years….
And the tax dodgers who are best mates with Tony Abbott, like Rupert Murdoch, anyone know when he & his family last paid tax, & a correct amount for the billions they have???

      • Previous governments (both sides) have been comfortable with things. It's not a new issue sadly.

We wouldn't have had our car industry (for as long as we had) if it wasn't for subsidies (govt benefits for some not others). Off course to make things "look good" a govt could subsidise Ikea $50 million to stay (jobs for the "battlers") and then Ikea could give it back shown as tax paid in Aust! ;-)

Sad day when the govt has to pay companies to stay so we have jobs here (or effectively run/prop them up like the old USSR).

Comfortable's not the word I'd use. Lazy and complacent - yes, gutless - certainly, clueless and easily manipulated - without doubt.

        • Agreed, comfortably lazy. Don't want to risk the threat of companies pulling out/job loss and negative publicity.

  • "……you'll receive a free meat pie……"

I hope it is a lamb meat pie. Anything else would be un-Australian.

You can count on it being assemble your own crust and pie in true IKEA style.

      • I got an Allen key for my pie

      Horse

      • Dead, to go with the dog's eye?

  • Aussie hat..
    So what's an Aussie hate?
    ~union jack cap?
    ~Cricket Australia Cap?
    ~Port Adelaide Cap?
    ~cowboy hat?

      • Jocks on head?
Aussies sports supporters seem to wear Mexican sombreros (green and gold). On the street US sport baseballs caps so probably that ;-)
    • I wore a bushman's hat.
My daughter just had a normal hat with an Aussie flag pinned to it ( good enough!)

  • Careful not to choke on the Allen key….

  • Ok OzB'ers….what's the cheapest Aussie hat I could buy?

    • I reckon if you rock in with any old hat and say it's "Aussie" they are not going to deny you ;)
I'd say it's pretty much just an enticement to get you into the store … and fair enough too.
Who doesnt love a meatpie and chips - esp on AU Day!

      • And a free Lamington for dessert!

  • just walk in drunk and yell out the following words - mate, fcuk, btch,oy oy oy
