$279 annual fee….should add this to the post.

  • Got a little excited initially and thought there was no annual fee:(

    • i agree..TA do u know of any good credit card deals? there was one recent rewards signature card deals but needs a veda score and the website cant find me on their system..

      • The HSBC Platinum CC $0 Annual Fee For Life promo has been extended until 30 April 2015. No bonus points.

I already have an HSBC card for more than 4 years and their site to check your statement is easy to navigate. I only had to call them 3 times, if I recall.

        • Thanks mate..Just wondering what the rewards are like?

        • @stockastics:
No idea yet. Still in the process of submitting all the documentation required. Can't go wrong with something called "free for life". :)

    • Sorry for poor original post. I had trouble posting due to copy/paste issues with my phone. Think it's due to having 50+ tabs open in Google Chrome on my Android phone. Damn you OzBargain!

  • I think selling the Qantas passes on eBay would recover app $100 (after selling costs).

Which translates into $180 for 60k QFF points. Not bad value.

  • Time to get another card

  • ..

  • After the fee…. maybe you'll make a tad over $100 net.

Application &/or rejection will further damage my Veda score (already damaged by my applications for previous deals) and this deal is not worth the risk. I would rather build it up and hope for a future offer from Citibank Signature.

    • Does applying for credit cards actually damage your veda score? :/

      • There have been opinions that it does. My financial position & credit etc is immaculate except for that, and I only got an average Veda score.

      • Yes it does, showing a pattern of applying for a credit card a week doesn't look very good to a potential lender. This was more crucial in the past as lenders could not see wether an application for credit was approved/rejected. Now that lenders have more detail on the types of credit you have with limits etc, they may choose to not be as picky in this department, but it makes sense if they would knock someone back for credit if they applied for 100 credit cards in the last year. Remember all these details stay on file for 5 years, that includes approvalss/rejections/credit limits, I believe even late payments stay on there for 5 years now.

Lol. thinks back over all the credit cards I've applied to in order to benefit from ozbargain deals

        • @watwatwat:

lol, I have some experience ;). Luckily, much more conservative with my credit these days, 1 x 3 grand CC and that's all Í need … for now.

        • Do you know if that includes applications made before the new reforms came in? EG if you applied for a card in 2012, are they now able to see if that was accepted or rejected, or is it simply for newer applications?

        • @dazzywazzy:

Yes, all applications for the past 5 years stay on file. Lenders are able to check what active loans you have so they see if you were approved because it will show up on your active credit. Not sure if they are see disapprovals before the new laws.

0.75 Qantas Points per dollar isn't great for a card that you're paying this sort of annual fee for. Certainly not one you'd keep after the bonus points post.

    • My first thought too.

    • You will be hard pressed to find a non-Amex card that supplies >0.75 QFF points per $1 with a lower annual fee. The best was the CitiBank signature fee free for life offer but that has expired now. The best commbank supplies is 0.625 QFF points per $1 but has a $450 annual fee.

Remember each QFF point costs the credit card company money so they have to recoup the cost somehow and that is normally achieved via annual fees.

I have the Woolies Qantas Card at $1 per point, lower annual fee. However I have basically none of a signature cards features

        • The Jetstar platinum Credit Cards is also 1 point per $1 on Master card

  • Great deal…I spotted this offer earlier today and accessed it via http://www.stgeorge.com.au/personal/credit-cards/rewards/amp…

dtox, your link is similar to the pointhacks one where he receives a maximum of $252 per applicant. Just wondering if yours is also a paid referral link?

    • No referral from me. Thanks have updated OP link

      • Cheers dtox,

The Amplify Platinum card isn't bad either…http://www.stgeorge.com.au/personal/credit-cards/rewards/amplify-platinum

30,000 points for $99pa but without some of the Signature trimmings….Not a bad way to quickly pick up 60,000 points for $198 if you and say the Mr/Mrs decide to sign up..

  • The annual fee is cheaper than Westpac's but it is still high enough to be off-putting.

  • I think Qantas Club is the domestic lounge, not the internation business lounge.

    • +1

Actually they let you use it on international business class lounge as long as your ticket has a QF code to it.

  • Westpac has this same deal going on their black altitude cards but I don't know if they are waiving the annual fee or not, usually they do but I'm assuming this time they are not.

My point actually is that the BLACK card is their premium card with the highest anual fee and the highest minimum credit limit so as Westpac and St George are merged then I assume that the Signature is similar, so anyone looking for a new card just to get these points would need to consider the minimum credit limit that is going to go onto your credit history

  • Application approved so looks like I'll be giving this one a go - 60000 Qantas points are worth that annual fee in my book.

  • Instead of points…Can't we just get miles?

    • Then qantas couldn't reduce the value each year by making your points go less distance, now could they ;)

  • This might be a silly question, but does the International Travel Insurance apply even if you don't pay for the trip on your card? EG if I already have a trip booked?

  • Dazzy, look very carefully at all the T&Cs to get such an important question answered. And, maybe send them an email if you think yes you would be covered to ensure that you have that in writing. They often refer you to the insurance underwriter to find out. Just ask for an email to confirm. If you go somewhere with high medical fees, you must be covered.
