Pioneer VSX-529-K 5.2 Channel AV Network Receiver - $585 @ JB Hi-Fi - (RRP $699)

30

I believe this is a good price, went to the shop it had $599 tag over the original $699 price, bargained with the guy and agreed on $585.

While he was looking for the unit, 2 other sales lady came, one said to me, there's only one unit left do you want it? I said Yes, thinking well if it's one unit left then I should bargain for a bit more.

Then she goes and remove the $599 and said to me, did the guy told you it's $699, the $599 has expired. Which I said, No, we agreed on $585 already. She then wanted to offer me $587.65 or something, but the other lady stopped her and said since it has been offered to me already. The poor guy was then spoken to on the way to get the unit, so yeah, I think I got a good price. Hopefully it will help anyone looking at an entry-level receiver as well.

I'm waiting for these to go on clearance at dicksmith like they did with the older version (VSX-521) around 2yrs ago for $99 lol

Looks to have similar features to the VSX-827 (except 5 channel instead of 7 channel) that I bought over a year ago for $565 with a bundled blu-ray player.
    That makes $585 seem expensive.

Hmmm - strong negotiating skillz used to obtain 2.33% discount. The $14 saved will pay for a cheap HDMI cable.

Surely getting a discount on the last one in stock doesn't constitute a "deal" here on Ozbargain ??

This was the ex-display unit, correct?

  • Those specs look relatively similar to the Onkyo TX-NR525 receiver I purchased recently from Selby for $486 delivered. I'm very happy with it.

  • Mate, it might be just me, when when sales staff put on what I like to call 'a show', I automatically assume Im being bullshitted too.

    • yea lol. i think the OP got ripped off. There is other ones at that price range which is quite good. They make a killing off pioneer ones which is why they tried to push it to you as a "bargain" via their "show"

  • I have the VSX-919. What's with the weird model numbers? Surely this one must be better than mine which is years old.

    • VSX-(A)(BC): The A in this represents the "product range". If you were to compare which one is better by just using the model numbers you can only compare the products in the same product range.

      For example VSX-521, VSX-522, VSX-529 etc.

  • I wish the Onkyo TX-NR636 wasn't so insanely overpriced here. That would definitely be my choice.

    $396 at JB.

  • This powerful enough to drive ACCUSOUND REFERENCE 8.6XD?
