Now just to find out if it's also valid at my local woolies! Will give it a shot :)

  • Any limit ?

    • +1

1 per person. Of course, some might be thinking of going back once everyday, but I'm not sure if one offer is redeemable PER card. Now that will be another story then!

    • +1

      Usual
      "1 per customer"
      "While stocks last"
Probably linked to your REGISTERED EDR card, so handy if your household has more than 1.

      • +1

So far I have managed 2 per person with the same EDR card……one on 17/12 and one just now on 19/12 at the same store. Second transaction went thru seamlessly and $29 deducted when the CSR scanned my EDR card - even she commented on how good the Telstra deal is and was unaware of it until I showed her what to do….from my knowledge gained in this forum, lol

    Cheapest Telstra Starter Packs ever!

Plenty of time to find out if it's nation-wide. I'm arriving back in Oz around then, so will be following this deal.

I've checked the expiry of these multi-fit new generation SIM packs at Harvey Norman. They expire in at least September 2016. Plenty of time :)

    • +2

not really, the SIM packs i bought at Harvey Norman expired at 2/6/2015. only another 6 months

      • Were your packs exactly the same design as in the picture above by the OP? Not the Orange, nor green not pink ones. Design exactly like the picture above- those are ones I found with the later expiry date. :)

  • Fantastic. Was just looking at the $15 ones at Dick Smith…this is a much better deal.

    • +6

and best of all you get to avoid Dick! :D

  • +1

    Awesome deal, but hang on.
Only valid 17-24 Dec, but redeem by 31 Dec 2014? Confused.

    • +3

You've got to make the $30 or more purchase on your EDR card between 17 - 24 Dec 14 to get the receipt, then present this receipt by 31 Dec 14 (at the latest) to get the starter kit for $1.

      • Ah right so you have a little longer to actually redeem the offer but the initial spend must be done 17-24 Dec.
Just noticed it's in the fine print sorry.

        • If there is any stock left by then, so get in early! Similar to previous $30 purchase promotions.

  • Sounds awesume.

    • +6

One of the wonderful aspects of reading OzBargain is the seemingly endless (attempts at) spelling that word…

      ROTFL

Anyway, I hope my local Woolworths has this deal.
      Thanks OP.

      • Awesome reply and very funny - sorry for spelling that word correctly, lol

  • +2

    Sincerly hope its AUS wide!

  • i think it will be aus wide or at least state wide as they are doing it with the edr
anyway will check with it when i shop next at woolies

  • -3

Get other woolies to price match.

And there's a trick just refund the purchase and repeat the process.

    • +1

Do you think you deserve a neg?

    • I think he deserves +1

    • another dodgy act. not belong to this place

    • So you mean refund the purchase if it doesn't go through as $1? I think that returning Pre-Paid products may be one of their exceptions of what they will return due to change of mind. I would definitely check with the Supervisor first.

Unless you mean, get the $30 groceries, get the $1 Telstra, then refund $30 groceries. Yeah I'm going to agree with the others on that one that this would really be pushing their limits, but if they are willing to do so without you being deceptive or fraudulent about it, then there is nothing wrong with you taking advantage of that. I mean, or you could just buy $30 worth of groceries… it's not that hard… we all need groceries; I'm sure there are plenty of specials to be found anyway.

  • Interesting. Cheapest ever if available.

  • +10

Looking at the poster, I think it's too professional to be store specific, maybe even state specific. I mean a single store or state wouldn't have that fine print not the capability to enable the edr offers

    • +3

I like that simple yet convincing logic..

    • +1

guess it will be aus wide

    • +2

      And how right you were..

  • Woolworth is selling half price $30 prepaid starter kit nationally, is it available everywhere ?

  • Awesome! Just another excuse for me to grab a kebab next door, while I'm there cheers!

  • So, what can one do with one of those starter kits? I am currently on Amaysim, but the unused part of my 10GB data will expire just in time for this offer, so that would be great timing to use a different SIM for a month or two…

      • Most of the questions asked about these Telstra Starter Packs has been compiled into that Ozbargain Wiki Guide to Telstra Starter Packs. From which plan for phone or data, what SIM size, what can I spend my credit on, discounts, how to activate one plan & switch to another for more benefits …

      • Thanks for the link!

Just to confirm I read this right: if I activate on the "Freedom" offer I get 800MB data and $220 worth of calls valid for 30 days and still have the $30 credit to be used on Google Play or to be transferred with Me2U?

Sounds like a pretty sweet deal.

        • +2

Yes, the $30 credit is yours to spend (Google Play, maximum $10 at a time CreditMe2u to another Telstra SIM etc) on top of the prepaid cap & data.

Check out how to move that credit over to a second SIM set up first as LongLife, then Simplicity Plan for 6 months of cheap calls paid by CreditMe2u transfers from the monthly Freedom Plan (which comes with free night calls to Australian numbers, etc).

Always check Telstra site to confirm. It's hard to keep up to date. Telstra frequently changes, adds new offers, or reinterprets existing conditions.

Check particularly the number of days in offer, as some have dropped to 28 days from memory.
But a "sweet deal" for $1, with great coverage.

Am overseas, so haven't been around to update
It's an OzBargain Wiki - so feel free to update or correct.

        • @brucefromaustralia:

Is this a definite, having the $30 Google play credit on top of the freedom offer?

I thought you had to effectively spend the $30 in order to have the freedom offer applied to your account, thus leaving you no extra credit for Google play purchases.

I always put the starter pack on the long life and then deduct Google play store purchases from there.

          Hopefully I'm wrong.

        • +1

@Rambler: that's what they said about 'loophole' in telstra

        • +1

          @Rambler:
It's true. Get the Freedom or other prepaid plan, and still have $30 actual credit to spend. See the Wiki for other advice.

That's why I fail to see why people would use these packs just for Google Play, rather than a month of free calls (plus night calls etc) plus $30 credit to spend at Play etc as well.

        • +2

          @brucefromaustralia:

I must hang my head in shame and hand in my ozbargain badge as I haven't been doing this with all the cheap $30 starter kits that Ive accumulated.

To think that I could have had 800MB of data and $220 worth of calls in addition to $30 Google Play credit.

Being the cheap bastard that I am, this will take a long time to get over.

        • +1

          @Rambler:
I was the same Rambler, until I saw the OzBargain light. I still feel the shame of all that lost Telstra credit. Couldn't believe it at first. That's why I wrote about it in the Wiki - based on all the posts by other more knowledgeable OBers. So many ways to save with Starter Packs, and now at $1…

        • +1

          @brucefromaustralia:

I now too see the light and feel born again to exploit the Telstra loophole!

All praise ozbargain at this special time of year and give thanks for the $1 starter packs we've been blessed with.

        • @Rambler:

Wow.. and I thought I was good using these as just $30 Google Play credit. Feel like a noob.

My favourite is activate as long life then immediately change to simplicity. Definitely will try that one out shortly.

        • +2

          @illumination:
LongLife-Simplicity Plans have worked well for me. See recommended Telstra prepaid phone strategies, including my budget recommendation…

With this deal, I'll get 12 months connection & included 400 minutes of calls at 15c/min (2x$30 credit) for $2 :-)

As per the Wiki strategy, peak usage periods use another $1 SIM for calls that month & $29 moved to LongLife-Simplicity SIM with CreditMe2u for more calls later. ($29 is maximum transfer of $10+$10+$9 due to 3 x 25c CreditMe2u transfer fees.)

        • @brucefromaustralia:

Wow, never knew about this before.

Bruce, can you please confirm, once you have activated the LongLife-Simplicity Plans, can you add a Data Pack?

        • @jlqc5899:
I've no experience doing that as I use a separate SIM to get 2GB for $1 in this deal, using a mobile WiFi device - a much cheaper deal. Should work ok.

There are many ways to use these Starter Packs. I've just compiled others comments in many deals, & my own experience to make the Wiki. Add your own experiences there if it would be helpful to others.

        • @brucefromaustralia: Do you know if the Long-life then Simplicity switch has to be done quite quickly for the "trick" to work? Just asking because I had a SIM activated as long life on 20/11/14 - it's been just over a month so not sure whether the long expiry will work if I know try and switch to simplicity..

  • Thanks Op

  • If I get a simcard and recharge $10 into it, would I be able to use the $10 on Google Play or is it a minimum of $30 recharge? TIA

    • +1

If you buy a $30 starter kit for $1 you get $30 to spend on Play

      • Alright that's for the clarification, have a good day! :)

        • Are you able to use the $30 to buy in app purchases

        • +1

@Alcoano: Yes, but max of $10 per transaction

  • No data incl., pity.

Yes its cheap, but would rather the specific tablet starter kit with 2GB. Now THAT would be a bargain.

    • When you activate, select device as Tablet for 2GB data, as per the wiki Guide to Telstra Starter Packs.
(Unless you have advice Telstra has changed this recently. In which case, please edit the wiki with new details to help OzBargainers.)

      • Hey bruce: does activating this sim for the 2GB Tablet plan work using the Telstra wifi devices?

        • +1

I have used it for a long time with Pocket WiFi 2 & Telstra 4G WiFi devices, so yes.

        • +1

@brucefromaustralia: That's awesome, so I just bought the wifi pocket plus, so now I need to accumulate a few of these and activate them on the 2GB plan when I want to use each one!

        • +1

          @marquise:
          At 50c/GB, why wouldn't we :-)

  • +2

Can anyone confirm that it is not store specific?

  • There are a few people on here who work for Woolworths, maybe they can confirm if this is going to be an event at all stores.

  • +1

I think gift cards are not excluded according to the advertisement.

  • Thanks

  • +5

Definitely all stores. Saw the flyer at my local in moonee ponds

    • So far so good.. For nsw and Vic. Sitting out the front of my local woolies in SA and no flyer

    • +1

      That's only 2 stores… Moonee ponds + Newington.

      • +1

……and worked today at Drouin, VIC…..although I had one staff member scratching her head a bit and had to get the supervisor to assist. They were telling me I had to spend $30+, scan EDR card during transaction and ask for the Telstra SIM as part of the transaction - otherwise no deal; despite contrary advice on their promotional flyer - anyway ended all good and I held my ground based on knowledge gained from you experts in this forum!

  • Can I use this to unlock Lumia 530 from previous deals?

    • Yes. If you accumulate enough credit in a single service.

  • Would be great if someone could confirm whether or not this could be used on the same card or not :D

  • Voda's unmetered weekend seemed less about artificially bolstered subscriber figures.
That saw a customer base consume 590 terabytes of data in total.
Cheap for playstore /2 gb, though.

  • Anyone got next weeks catalouge and seen this? It's online monday

    • +6

Got WW catalogue delivered today & yes the deal is listed. Does not state limited to 1 per EDR card holder so should be able to get 1 starter kit for every $30 WW docket. Great deal!

      • +1

        Yessss!! Cheers!!

      • Has anyone actually tried getting more than 1 starter kit? I just tried with another $30 purchase and it didn't get discounted.

  • since i have to extend my service expiry anyway (simplicity, but recharge on long life for longer expiry, and creditme2u from cheap sim starters)

reckon i could by a $30 telstra recharge, and then get a $1 sim starter pack?

    • I'll try that too.

      • Terms and conditions says exclude purchase of starter kit @ $30 not sure about Opal recharge though.

Maybe you can do $30 recharge add $1 for the starter kit.

To top it off pay in gift card

  • Poor environment.. Be interesting to see what stock provision is like.

  • So can you buy $30 at checkout and including the starter kit pay for the groceries and tell checkout to charge $1 for the Sim?

Also would it be a multi Sim kit? I need a nano sim can't be bother going to Telstra to swap. Need a new number on iPhone 6

    • +2

You have to spend $30 first & printed on the receipt will be a voucher to buy this deal. Take the voucher to the service counter to buy the starter kit for $1. I asked to buy one last week & WW staff said I need to go to the service counter & show photo id to purchase one?!? Glad I didn't bother as this weeks $1 deal is much better than last weeks deal @ $15.

      • I see so you have to have the docket printed with the offer first. Thanks for that spacecowboy!

  • I am not a member of Every Day Reward program.

How long would it take for me to become a registered EDR member?

    • Less than a second, just take one form which has a temporary card and you become a member.

      • Cool.

      • This is not correct. To be a "registered" member you have to activate the temporary card online.

        • I did it many times when I forgot my main ED card. I just get one of the temporary card and use it to get fuel discount or the further discount in some items when you use your card :)

        • +3

          @msmhw:

Yea you are right in that a temporary card works in those cases. But in unique offers such as this one and others in the past only registered rewards cards work. When your rewards card is scanned it comes up as registered or not on the screen.

  • How many of these cards would you need to buy(& activate) to unlock the Nokia Lumia 530?

  • Voucher did not come through. I just spent over $30 didn't get this @Woolies

EDR was scanned shows animal card points no starter pack offer.

I say this isn't all stores.

    • The fine print does say that it is not available at all stores, but I would ask the staff.

      • Well if someone can confirm you get a voucher print code on it to work or you just show the receipt over $30 at selected store or not?

I suggest OP change to selected stores only once confirmed.

I didn't get anything. Wasted $30, I can't refund a bus ticket travelten it's been charged to my credit card and giftcard.

It clearly was over $30 in one transaction

And yes I upvote before I went in store, should have tried it before voting next time.

        • +1

Did you try just showing your >$30 receipt at the counter and requesting for the Telstra starter kit?

It doesn't say anything about getting a voucher in the promo…

I'd try that and see before anything else!

        • @AnDyStYLe:

I was in a hurry this morning didn't do this. I will go there again after work and try it again

        • I tendered my $30+ receipt at the customer service counter and despite some head scratching, bang; deal secured! Nothing about this deal was displayed at bottom of my receipt?

        • +1

@cim85: Yep I just collected mine just now. The CS at the counter didn't know about the offer so needed to show the catalog.

Also he scanned my EDR card but it didn't take off the $29, so he put in manual refund of $29.

Expiry date is June 2016, ballin' =D

        • +1

Good work, I am fairly sure the CSR processed a manual refund for me too as no automatic discount showed up on my EDR card…..a bit confusing but very happy I snagged it for $1 ….. Lowest price ever for a Telstra SIM!

    • I just got the offer at Woden, Canberra. As per my post below, the groceries receipt didn't mention the Telstra deal on it but I showed the staff the catalog on my phone (I think its the same as the pile that were sitting on the service desk counter) and he ran the purchase up without question. I'd purchased $34 or so in groceries (no gift cards or anything that'd stand out as possibly being part of an exclusions list).

  • +4

Offer is on Page 31 of Victorian catalogue here, I can't select the terms and conditions on my phone but it does list stores where it's not available [catalogue] (http://m.woolworthsonline.com.au/Seasonal/Woolworths-Catalog…)
