  • ripper deal! thank you.
It didn't scan properly but the newbie at the till just manually adjusted it after he checked with his supervisor

  • Got it, you do have to go to the front counter in order to buy the SIM.

  • +1

I asked them at the self checkout how to put it through. The ladies there had obviously done it a few times before. You put all groceries through, scan everyday rewards card, then they scan the starter pack for you. It then discounts to $1 all in the one transaction. Hopefully that helps some people out to avoid the manual process.

    • Yup, this is exactly what I did.

I queued up on the checkout lane that has access to the front desk/sim kits, scanned all my groceries, then the EDR, then the MULTI-FIT starter pack.

      Happy days.

(took a while though cause the guy had to key-in my driver's license details)

  • The Brisbane City (MacArtur Central) only has the Tablet/iPad SIM pack at this moment.

Can anybody confirm if this tablet/iPad SIM can be used as Mobile SIM (Long Life option)?

  • Just got one with an expiry date in 2016.

  • I can confirm that 1/2hr ago there were 20+ start kits left upstairs at Town Hall in Sydney. I got one for $1 expiry Oct 2016 by scanning my EDR card after purchasing $40 Opal transport card top-up 1 hour earlier (also scanning EDR card) at a different store because they claimed incorrectly that purchases must be for groceries to be eligible. It seems others have been able to take advantage of thos offer either in one transaction or immediately after. It states a limit of 1 per customer but if it was actually 1 per $30 spent then I would be going back for more. Can/has anyone confirmed/tried?

    • I tried at Woolworths Wynyward and couldn't claim my 2nd one no matter what combination I tried. However, there's a chance the record might be kept within each store as someone else on this thread stated they were able to claim twice and different Woolworth branches each time. Some even say you don't have to make a $30 purchase to claim it!

      • The actual type of SIM you try to scan matters. Was it the purple one shown in the post? The others would not reduce for me.

    • Samlor - u sure u didnt have some other $30 transaction on your EDR before to qualify for this?

I tried $40 top up using my EDR and the $29 discount did not come out using my EDR… was able to get it to work for normal groceries though

      • Oh, yeah, oops. Good point. Checking my EDR account shows several current 4c/litre discount vouchers so I guess that means one such voucher could probably have made me eligible.

        • +1

EDIT: no wait. I thought the $30 purchase had to be from 17 Dec., if that is the case. I have not made such an eligible purchase prior to buying the $40 Opal transport card top-up.

EDIT: re-reading the deal/offer suggests it is the kit itself that is available from 17 Dec. and there is no specified time for the eligible $30 spend. So much confusion.

@ShootingStar3388, thank you for posting this deal so much in advance, helped with timing the grocery shopping to be able to pick up on this deal.

  • +1

Got mine last night went back this arvo and it wouldnt except it for another.

    • Did you spend another $30.

      • +1

Yes did it exactly the same way as previous night no go

    • Sounds like it might be one per EDR card? although someone higher up this thread claims to have snagged more than 1? Hmmmm I'm a bit confused like the Woolworths staff are upon an Ozbargainer asking for this deal? lol

  • +1

Got it with no hassles. If you're like me and don't usually use EDR, you can just sign up online and print off a temporary card which will work fine, although the cashier was a bit confused as to what it was.

Also, make sure you purchase the SIM separately. That way you get the petrol discount twice! (Yep, it doesn't count the negative charge).

  • Redeemed mine in Ringwood Woolies

Staff require my Photo ID and input data into their computer
Said each person can only redeem 1 time.

I would try using my passport to redeem another one:))

    • +1

Use a different EDR card. It's not based on your ID.

  • +1

    Tried 2 woolworths stores.
No one at the service desk at the MacArthur or Sherwood stores had any idea about the promotion. When I pointed it out at MacArthur the girl said that it was only $1 off the $30 sim. I asked her to read it again. She went to look for the SIMs and came back and said there weren't any… but there were. Not going to spend all day arguing. Woolworths is crap. Sherwood had no idea about the promo and din't believe me.

    • -1

That sounds like a case for the ACCC or the office of consumer and business affairs (or ur state's equiv)…

    • I would have just asked to speak to whoever was the manager, then point out in great deal what it said.

      • I went to the Marryatville Woolies yesterday and made my $30 purchase. I then went to the service counter and the assistant said that they did not have any of the starter kits. I could see them in the drawers under the glass. I pointed to them and she said that they are the wrong ones. I said that they look like the ones in the catalogue and she said that the ones in the catalogue had a different picture on them. I suggested she scan that one and she told that it would not work. It seems some just don't want you to get a good deal.

    • It happened to me as well, WWS sucks, and just refuse the redemption. Even told me this is Telstra promotion. ask me to redeem at Telstra store. it is ridiculous.

  • Does anyone know if the Long Life/Simplicity activation combo still works? Posts in the Wiki refer to comments made back in June and I don't want to risk losing the 6 months expiry aspect

    • Yep it does.

  • Has anyone managed to use this sim in a non-Telstra wifi modem?

I'm having trouble in particular with a VF 4G pocket wifi. It's a Huawei R215.

    • All good now, thanks to qoqqqq. Click on the link for the solution.

  • 25GB / 300 mins, roaming network of 16 countries-(UK) Voda. Telstra users pay $50 to be within an order of magnitude, cant complain.

    • What is this?

      • +1

3rd result when you google .. & a previous bargain
        (♥ the AU data@$1.40/)

  • Just worked at Indooroopilly after a bit of hassle

  • Could not buy this with a temp card. No dice.

  • Hi guys, my experience is the best way is to have a copy of the printed page for the promotion.

Buy $30 worth of groceries, and ask for that SIM. They will direct you to service counter, then you pay the lot.

  • Confirmed working at Woolies Unley (SA).

Did the weekly shop, went to the service desk and asked for a $30 SIM. The staff member asked if I'd spent the $30 already, I said yes, she put it through for $1 after scanning my EDR card.

  • I walked up to service counter today at Lane Cove, bought two Christmas Animals albums and a starter pack for $3. I didn't need to buy any other groceries.

  • +1

Right they must have changed the condition because in my attempts to buy another I can say that in Vic temp cards do not work and buying a second (next day) also does not work.
Tried both ways with $30+ groceries and no dice.

  • They gave me a $30 telstra pre-paid sim starter kit for tablets, is this the same thing? or did they gave me the wrong one? description says " get online with your tablet, ipad, mobile broadband device.

    • It's different. Speak to Live Chat they might be able to help you activate it as a mobile phone service. When you activate it online what options do you get?

  • I have to buy a $200 gift card on behalf of some oldies, would that qualify as a purchase to get this??

  • +1

    Works if buying gift cards.

    • +1

I would imagine it would only work for those gift cards which already have value (e.g. iTunes/Facebook credit/spotify) as opposed to those which you have to add value to (e.g. WISH gift card, Big W, Caltex). What card did you buy?

  • +1

Hi guys i just found the actual link for this deal on the woolworths site ..might be useful if you have any probs at the store

    http://www2.woolworthsonline.com.au/shop/seasonal/Woolworths…

  • I have tried many things and this is what I have found so far,
every store/person seems to have a different opinion on how this works.
I have five cards now, and on one EDR card the first transaction is pretty straight forward,
one my first attempt on the wives EDR card no problem and the second one no problem, but after that could not get anymore on it (time to get creative) went to a few different stores with my third receipt for $30+ of groceries, and most had sold out, luckily I found a store with many cards left :)
got to the service counter tried to get the card and no good, luckily she put it through manually.
went shopping and got my fourth card easily on the second EDR card (first for this card) but for the fifth card it didn't work again, luckily they put it through manually again. so looks like you can only do one per EDR card easily.

    • Where's the store with lots of stock?

  • +1

Tried several stores, none has stock. Any rainckeck available?

    • Would be interested to know too.

    • +3

Just tried asking- with a very tired and worn look on her face, she shook her head.

    • Deal details in catalogue says can be redeemed until 31/12 (just present EDR card used for $30 purchase at service counter & get $29 off purchase of SIM).

Stores have said they are restocking.

Picked up my first 3 on 3 registered EDR cards yesterday at 2 stores. Just presented EDR card at service counter after purchases at different store.

So no need to worry ;-)

  • I can confirm this offer is also valid in Woolies Hawthorn Melbourne.

    • Is there stock left?

      • I am not sure sween. I forgot to ask. But I can tell you that there weren't many people after it. If I were you, I'd give them a ring, and perhaps reserve one? I don't know, worth a try I guess.

        • Did you go there today?

        • Hawthorn out of stock :(

  • anyone tried using a +$30 receipt from woolworths online?

or is it only good for in store purchases only?

    • +1

Terms and Conditions say $30 grocery purchase.

    • +1

      I tried without success! :-(

  • Google's Chromecast is now available in the Play Store. I assume this can be bought using Telstra recharge credit.

    • I may be wrong, can someone confirm this?

      • Whoops, I forgot there's a $20 limit. Ignore me.

      • +1

Google Play Credit can't be used for hardware purchases, can only be used for content such as movies and music unfortunately

  • Good deal. Last time I bought a starter pack I couldn't get the credit to work with google play. This time it worked (eventually - as it didn't work for the first few hours after activation).

    • How do u add the credit to Google play? Thx

      • Put SIM in a phone and you can select it as a payment option when paying on mobile.

You can't "add" the credit to Google Play in the way you can with a gift card.

        • Thanks

  • +1

I'm struggling to find any with stock around Sydney. Haven't tried a whole heap of stores (just 4).. any one happy to share where they've found stock?

    • +1

I've tried four in Melbourne. I think everywhere sold out in a few days. If they don't get restock I'd say this deal is over.

      • +1

Woolworths QV - there seems to be plenty of stock

  • Just picked up a couple of starter packs at Woolies Midland Gate (WA). Catalogue at front of store had offer in it, picked up two lots of $30 in groceries, one for me, one for wife, got the transactions transferred to front desk (where the starter packs are), scanned EDR cards and grabbed $1 starter packs. Awesome!

Expiry 23rd Sept 2016. Had sim in all sizes, Nano, Micro and Full.

  • Has anyone managed to redeem the pre-paid kit with $30+ OPAL top up only, no groceries?

  • Just successfully got a second sim of the same edr at the same store

    • Which store were you at that has stock?

      • I'm in South Australia :)

  • FYI most stores in SA seem to have stock left over.
I know Golden Grove, TTP, Mawson Lakes do off by heart.

  • Can I get second one in Perth with the same EDR?

  • +1

Just tried getting second Starter Pack on same EDR card, at same store. No discount.

But guy checked with manager after I suggested a manual transaction for $1. Person in charge rang up one at $1. I pulled out another EDR card (with no $30 purchase activated) & she entered $1 again for next Starter Pack. I had bought 2 Starter Packs from same guy the night before. (So much for 1 per customer.)

That Brisbane store and another said they would honour deal until 31/12 if they restock, for EDR cards that had been used to buy $30.

But another store said "allocated" stock had been exhausted, so deal was over. I pointed out deal could be redeemed until 31/12, that there was no difference between allocated and new stock on their system, and some allocated stock was probably sold as ordinary stock during the week, … but she just became verbally abusive!

Will try my EDR cards again after Christmas, supported by my old receipts - it's worth a try.

A great deal. I had just returned to Oz at the end of this deal & needed to restock groceries & SIMs. Great timing :-)

  • Plenty at Sydney's "Double Pay"
    oops, I meant "Double Bay"

  • Got one with a $30+ purchase. Thanks.

  • I went to my local woolies in WA, shopped for $58 and i told her about the telstra offer, at first she didnt understand and then called the manager, waited for 30 mins and then she scanned a telstra sim only data for $30 i told her that i need the starter calin sim plan card, but she insisted that this was the only one on offer, my phone didnt have charge and i couldnt show her the poster( posted on ozbargain ) .. is there a possibility that i can go to any woolies and exchange it> I dont need $30 data sim for tablets i have unlimited wireless and unlimited data workout on my note 4 till jan mid. Any suggestions pls? thanks

    • +1

The "starter sim for tablets" will work exactly like the one for mobiles, just pick the correct option when you activate.

  • I got two today at Neutral Bay Grosvenor street. There were plenty left in the aisle display with other gift cards.
I was only able to put one on each EDR card that I had.

  • anyone know of any stores that have stock left in south east qld
    ?

    • My tip - try the smaller quieter Woolies in older suburbs where there are less OzBargainers or younger phone users. Ring the stores at a quiet time.

Major shopping centres I tried on Tuesday night in Brissie had long run out, but a quieter 1 in a small set of shops still had stock (my helpful local on south side, I'm probably going back tomorrow, but don't want to upset them with hoards of OzBargainers).

Stores told me they would be restocking, but could not guarantee stock before end of redemption on 31/12.

I was surprised to still find stock at end of the week of this deal (having just returned to Oz). Staff were still unaware of the deal at the quiet store - indicating almost no one had redeemed there - just me.

  • My wife was given a raincheck for one, but we will see how that goes when we try to redeem it.

    • Hope the raincheck works, I went to one of my woolies on the weekend and they were out of stock, asked for a raincheck but the assistant manager said could not do raincheck as the offer is linked to the EDR card and expires end of Dec. I went to another local woolies and they had the starter kit there.

      • +1

Scored 6 of these and a raincheck for 3 using 5 edr cards (FAMILY) not holding my breath for the raincheck to come thru but worth a shot.

  • +4

Went into my local Woolies today (Brookside, QLD) and asked about the $1 Telstra prepaid sim deal. The girl said it has been changed to not require the $30 spend. She just put it through, scanned my EDR card and a $29 discount was applied.

Not sure if it will still be available tomorrow but worth a try. I expect this will only be valid if you haven't already claimed the deal by spending $30.

  • Got one today also @ 2320 Aberglasslyn NSW. The ww store had not even heard of the deal.. Got a card off the stand and asked her to scan it… then scan my edr card… instantly the $30 turned into $1. They were amazed :-)
No $30 shopping docket required, just the edr card.
An email I received from ww says the special will run until 31/12. May be still worth trying for those that have not got one yet.

    • Have you spent $30 at Woolies shortly prior to 24th? It seems that was the requirement…

      • I had done but others have said it is not needed now?? Your comment above mine also confirmed this. Would be good to hear from anyone who got it without the $30 spend.
