      • It works with all* Androids, and even iPhones!

EDIT: * Modern Android OS's. Not super old ones.

    • Did they not tell you to put the pickup address on the app?
I (and I'm sure many others) have no idea where the 'flagship store' is.

      • If you really wanted the cardboard, you'll find it I'm sure.

        • The issue wasn't finding it, the issue was knowing whether to select pick-up or delivery.

        • @McFly: I didn't get the option to choose a pick up store. The address came in the confirmation SMS. For Sydney it is 400 George St.

        • @dealsfinder: The option is pick up or delivery.

Out of stock for SYD pickup :(

    • Out of stock as in you cant pick one up if u already have the code sent to you?

Or can no longer get the code for Sydney pick up?

      • The latter.

  • Guess they didnt get enough cardboard

    • We had alot lined up, but obviously got ozbargained.

      • +3

This is a good thing, since obviously the marketing wonks will consider Google Cardboard the hot new thing and will do more.

Maybe you could convince Telstra they should be giving away Chromecasts? It would be more use than their T-Boxes…

  • +1

Responding 'MEL' just bounces back the instructions at me. Replying with SYD or POST give the response that you have been put in a queue.

  • -2

hehe I hope all SMS's that have bounced have not been charged!!!
T&C's clearly state its limited to stock availability
It was a great offer - just not enough stock!

  • -4

    what's a google cardboard?

  • Arrgghhh, I've texted twice, the message reply keeps saying "To request a Cardboard unit, please just reply:
    SYD
    MEL
    or
    POST"

Is this really free or just a way telstra charging me for nothing?!

    I'm on telechoice

    • I am getting the same messages at telvisi.

      Tried three times!

      I am on vaya.

  • Already out of stock in Sydney, awesome! :(

  • OUT OF STOCK for Sydney pickup.

  • Picked up mine this morning on the way to work just to avoid disappointment if the stock runs out. The process was pretty simple. The lady at the store asked me to show the text message and asked me to delete the message in front of her and handed over the cardboard.

It's an unbranded one (Not sure if the ones from Google comes with a logo though) but looks of good quality. Now need to wait till evening to try it.

    • +2

We were giving away official google ones from their head office.

We decided not to brand them.

      • is this the new version of old version of the cardboard?

does the magnet damage the phones?

  • +2

Guys please remember, there's an App attached to the free cardboard as well?

Get involved in the livestream on the night, or even the midnight messages. ;)

  • out of stock will notify when more comes in …..

  • Also remember OP, the 360 Video feature works for both iOS and Android.

  • Melbourne Out of Stock too ……

    Just ordered 1 from here:
    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Amazing-Cardboard-3rd-Generation-…

    $9.9 free shipping, looks good.

    • They normally go for $3 from China. hah

      • I know that, but I don't want to wait for 3 weeks…
The seller said I can get it tomorrow.

      • -1

        got a link?

so your cardboard is official google ones?

        or from china as well?

at $3, it cheaper than going to the city to pick it up

        • +1

we had the official google ones with nfc chips in them.

        • -1

          @MrLeE:

          so your cardboard is nfc?

          what you mean you had?

  • Brisbane missed out..

Bonnie Doon missed out too :(

    • +1

Since it's an App for Sydney New Year's Eve.. I think extending it to Melbourne was already gracious enough.

Regardless, the app is for anyone to use in every state. The cardboard claiming was just an extra incentive (for FREE) to engage in with 360' video thanks to Telstra.

  • +2

Just picked up mine from the Melbourne Telstra store! Thanks!!

  • Sorry, we are out of stock of Google Cardboard in our Sydney store.
Your request has been queued and you will be notified should more stock become available.

  • I just received this
"Thanks for expressing your interest in Google Cardboard. You are on the waiting list for more stock to arrive in our Melbourne store. We will SMS you next week with more information, apologies for the incorrect reply message earlier.

    • Is it a good thing or bad thing?

I mean did you get a confirmation earlier and then they sent you this or you got out of stock reply earlier?

      • I got both. How could it be a bad thing (given they were out of stock from this morning?)

        • In their message they apologised for their earlier message. If he got confirmation message saying the stock is reserved for him and then this waiting list message isn't that bad? By bad I mean disappointing.

        • @dealsfinder: Oh, yes, misread confirmation for out of stock message. I don't think your scenario has happened to anyone as we probably would have heard about it.

    • Yes after 3 texts, I received same message, let's hope it's coming next week…

  • If I received the confirmation is it safe to assume there will be one waiting for me if I go in say a week? Don't want to make the trip and regret it.

    • yh I'm wondering the same thing. It did mention something about the 9th of January so perhaps it's safe as long as it's not after then.

    • Phone them to check / confirm?

      • what is the number?

      • I've rung and they said they have plenty in store so those that scored original codes should be fine for now.

The only condition was that the SMS was direct from Telstra so you can't forward the SMS for your friends to pick up (short of SMS spoofing).

        Thanks for the tip!

        • Yeah, they grabbed my phone and deleted the sms when I picked up the cardboard..

I guess some people are trying to claim more than one from the same sms..

  • Can you still pick up if you've successfully reserved?

    • I did that today. Picked up at the Sydney store. Attendant told me to delete my reservation message.

      • I wonder of the reservation codes are unique

  • +1

The address is actually 396 George Street (right next door to 400). Seems that 400 is the business office.

  • I'm a fool. I successfully reserved one but I reset my phone and forgot that SMS hasn't been stored on the SIM since a decade ago. If only I remembered the code.

    • As far as I know the codes are not unique but they ask you to show the SMS on your phone. So probably telling the code won't work.

      • Ask someone to forward the SMS to you then

    • +1

      BAHAHAH I DID THAT ASWELL
      XD

message them on fb, thats the only way
if u phone telstra u get put through like 10 people and then u give up cus they dont understand what google cardboard is. -_- they thought it was a phone i ordered online via telstra

      :)

message them on fb, they resent the sms to me after 2 days

      • sweet i'll try that tomorrow

  • Anyone know what the 3D token is for?

    • I guess it's just the URL to the cardboard website. My GS4 couldn't read the QR code though.

  • +1

Anyone else getting severe double vision? Closing one eye, the virtual reality is gimmicky but awesome and futuristic!

    • +1

Yep. Especially if the phone isn't in properly. My phone seems a little too big.

Every 3D tech doesn't agree with me unfortunately. I got my 87 seconds of fun though :)

  • Has anyone had theirs delivered yet?, I'm still waiting for mine.

  • Just got a text saying that they got more in stock for Sydney pick up.

    • Got mine for Melbourne.
I've forwarded it to my wife to pick up. Is that going to be a problem?

  • +1
