  • Also, watch out if you are far from the exchange. My old TP-LINK is 6.7Mbit compare to this one at 5.4Mbit. Annoying I will have to use both and waste power. Apparently some modems/chipsets are better for closer or further from the exchange.

    • From what I understand the D7 uses a Broadcom chipset, which have a great reputation for maximising line speeds for users that are very long distances to their exchange. My Billion 7800VDOX has one as well and it certainly made a world of difference for me.

Are you sure you've configured the new modem properly (MTU, SNR, Modulation, etc) and that you're WiFi reception (if the client is on the WLAN) isn't affecting the speed?

      • Thanks, thats a nice surprise it should be capable. In both cases they are on auto so I will record the old one's settings and compare. Also, I'm looking at line sync so its not the wifi. Cheers for the info.

        • Check the ADSL modulation setting too. I bought this on the Wireless1 Click Frenzy sale the other week. Modulation was set to auto which selected ADSL2 which lowered my sync a bit. I changed it to ADSL2+ and I got back the higher sync that I'd had on my Telstra TG797N (a bit higher actually).

Been very stable so far, don't think it's dropped sync by itself at all. I login often as I've been adding new devices to assigned IPs. SNR often drops below 6, generally sits between 4.5-5.5 but haven't noticed any drops or issues.

        • @curiousities: Thanks, I'll check it out :)
