The Experience

Escape to paradise this December with a nine-night Voyage aboard the Pacific Pearl. This gem in the P&O fleet is an expansive playground for guests to enjoy whilst at sea. A number of eateries tempt tastebuds, offering a wide range of cuisine, from light snacks to hearty dinners. With nine bars on-board, guests are free to find their favourite or try something different each night. Whether you’re after a quiet night with friends, a game of blackjack or to simply dance the night away, the Pacific Pearl has you covered. During the days at sea, guests make use of the sports court, outdoor pools, whirlpool spas or fully-equipped gym. When the sun sets for another picturesque night on the water, head to the big screen, a comedy show or an entertaining circus performance.

After a couple days exploring the ship, arrive at the sunny Isle of Pines, 50km from the mainland of New Caledonia. From there, be whisked away to cultural Lifou and the picturesque Vila. When combing these beautiful islands, a host of optional shore excursions are available, giving seafarers the best way to enjoy themselves off the vessel. Take a guided tour through the Isle of Pines to get a better understanding of its history and landmarks, or opt to meander through the town at your own pace. At Lifou, opt to take a visit to the Vanilla House to sample sweet-smelling goods or explore the waters of Jinek Bay. In Port Vila, the capital of Vanuatu, choose to take in the island lifestyle in the city or visit Ekasup village, a cultural hub of traditions and a very different way of life.

    $649 on P&O website

    • You can buy a pack of chocolate eneloops with the $2 savings!

  • Hmmmm, slightly tempting because of the price but I usually do Crystal Cruise (got one next week in NZ to Sydney). I take it that it is not all inclusive (based on the price) but how much IS the food and drinks on the P&O cruiseline? Anyone have experiences they can share?

    • Meals are included in the fare but drinks are not.

      • +1

Water water everywhere, so lets all have a drink :-P

    • i think food is uinculsive it says? not drinks?

    • +4

Um… Crystal Cruises 6* … P&O Australia 3* … If you buy go with the right expectations.

    • The speciality restaurants (Salt) are $50/person.

But regular dining/buffet is included. Some drinks are available with meals, but generally about $3 for soft drinks, $6-8+ for alcoholic ones.

  • Seems cheap. Is an "interior stateroom" any good?

    • +1

It's the cheapest room type with no windows or balcony. If it was me I would pay the extra $30 per person and go for the ocean view room.

      • +2

…stuff the ocean view, think physics! Nothing to see except the horizon moving around.

Being that the ship will be traveling in December and in the tropics, you are bound to encounter tropical storm fronts at sea.

The ship goes up and down more at the edges (front and rear, left and right, the most upper floors and the most lower floors).

Some of those cheap interior state rooms are the closest to the center axis of the ship, and move the least. No views, but more stable than rooms on the same level that are either further forward or rear, or on the sides with windows.

        • A porthole/window gives the illusion of free space - extending all the way to the horizon. The inside cabins will have a picture of a porthole, if you're lucky. That said, I'd rather pay for an interior stateroom and talk my way into a free balcony upgrade. With a different cruise line.

@muncan: time to use that digital photo frame.

        • @altomic: for a free balcony upgrade?
Explain how in 25 words or less…

        • @muncan: photo of ocean horizon in frame on the wall of the internal cabin.

          phew, words to spare

        • +1

@altomic: … to throw at the check-in staff when they refuse my balcony upgrade!

          25 words, joint effort :-)

        • Room tv is linked to bridge cam so if you want ocean view just leave it on the bridge cam channel.

    • Depends just how seasick you want to be…

    • It's decent. For only $30 extra the window would be worth it. But the rest of the cabin is the same, so insides are fine if the oceanview is not available or, in other cases, too dear.

      • If you are having a good cruise you are only in your room for a shower and sleep.

        • +2

and for building a little mattress fort

        • @muncan:
Fort on water? What is this, Waterworld? :)

Had an interior room for my last cruise and would only get oceanview or balcony in future. IMHO it makes such a difference to wake up with some daylight filtering through the curtains rather than in total darkness wondering what the heck time it was (several times a night). I had a balcony for the cruise before and just loved that.
