  • Does anyone have experience taking a toddler (14 month old) on a cruise?

    Worth doing, or crazy idea?

    • +8

Yes, I did with 18 months old. it should be ok, there are plenty of people who go with pram inside the cruise.. toddler likes the motion so they go to sleep easily..they can fill up milk bottles on the board (without any charge), you may bring baby food if you wish. let me know if u need more info.

      • Thanks for the reply, yeah a couple more questions:

-Do you have to pay for the toddler? Eg would I just book a twin share for the wife and I, and the toddler would be free?

-What do they provide in terms of cot/crib etc?

-Do they have any child-minding services for kids this age? (we wouldn't be wanting to palm him off all the time, but it might be nice to be able to catch an evening show or two).

-How were the other passengers? By this I mean were you ever made to feel like one of 'those' people who inconsiderately brings a baby on holidays with them and annoys everyone?

Just thinking it might be a good 'first holiday with bubs' sort of thing.

Edit, this link answers some of my own questions:

        http://www.pocruises.com.au/alreadybooked/cruisehandbook/pag…

Sounds like you have to pay for toddlers :-(

        • +6

We have been advised by a few people it is best to wait until your little ones are big enough for the child activities, over 3 years. Otherwise you will be restricted in going a few places, there are some child free places on some (all?) of the ships, and there is no child minding otherwise.

And if you are having to pay for them you want them it would be good if they can have some fun too!

My father who has been on about 24 cruises has told me there will be like 9 companies competing on cruises from Australia from next year. Pricing will drop we think so keep an eye out for something after your little one turns 3.

        • +1

I agree with this. Check what ages that the kids club starts from and provided they are toilet trained, then they will look after them (well lots of activities for them to do). You probably have to pay something. I am sure you can check on their site what it is. That is probably the best place to start. You would have a heaps better time (and your kid to) if you wait until they are old enough for kids club.

        • previously P&O had age restriction but I think they don't have any more. I didn't have to pay for any child minding so not sure. you need to ring them up.
yes they provide Portacot as a cot/crib.
there were many toddlers and infants on the board and many other old people they love to see the kids but I believe you find atleast 1% people who hate kids making noise. so you have to cop with them.

    • Similar question lol, I'd have to take a 22 month old if we did this. Dunno..

    • +1

That's fine but please let me know which one you're going on.

    • Royal Caribbean would be fine. They have proper kids clubs, and nannies by the hour.

    • +1

Before you book, please check around and read about p&o Australia (not p&o UK). I have heard from several people to avoid certain cruises, unless you're young and wild. I noticed a few negative comments below that triggered my alarm bells with p&o …
I read a few reviews on trip advisor - none were all that favourable.

  • Looks cheap but very short notice too (as reflected in the price I guess)

  • +1

is the price above with brackets for single or twin?

  • Not sure if this will be prohibited to post as a comment but i can provide transport to and from the cruise terminal for suburbs around Sydney.

    • +9

      For free?

    • +2

How much from airport to cruise terminal with a stop at a supermarket on the way?

      • Get your 50c ING cash out bonus on the way and then pay the driver with paywave to get 5% back? Boy you're dedicated. I like you.

You will not be able to do the 7th November one as it leaves today, and would need to book the 10th one right now and only over the phone as they have to close the bookings a couple of days before the cruise… no last minutes allowed these days as passenger lists have to be submitted in advance.

"Discounted fares must not be discussed while on board the ship"

    LOL

    • +19

First rule of P&O Friends and Family Club…

      • Don't talk about Cruise club. Lol

    • +3

      For real ?!??

I liked the post just for the coupon code!

  • Tried to go through a booking for the Melbourne and Isle of Pines cruise - no availability on the Melbourne one and the other was unable to display availability. Has anyone got this to work?

  • This does not seem to be valid, no Sydney cruise works - I called P&O to try to book and was told on staff can book this for friends

If anyone has got P447 to work let me know

    • P448 worked as a test booking, but too short notice to take advantage of unfortunately.
      Good find…

  • +2

Considering people book their cruises many months in advance, this is a "we have unbooked rooms, lets flog them off cheap" sale.

  • Lol, what's up with the coupon code? Does it have anything to do with the Subaru WRX?

    • +5

      twin turbo ship

  • I always miss on cruise deals, because have to book two people and I'm just one.otherwise so tempting.

  • Thanks OP!

Can anyone see the "Book Now" button on the J448 cruise?

    http://www.pocruises.com.au/findacruise/pages/CruiseProfile.…

For the life of me I can't see it :)

Edit: It's been a long day :P It's "Book This Cruise Now" :D

    • +1

It was there before. P&O either saw this & removed it or it's actually really sold out (reverts from 'book now' to 'contact P&O cruises' button).

      • Yeah "Sorry, this cruise appears to be full for the requested number of people in this category. If you believe this to be an error, please call our Customer Service team on 1300 385 628 (AU) or 0800 780 716 (NZ)."

  • Oh great, you can park your car too at the Opera House. Cruise parking is only $20 per day (minimum of 7 days to 14 days) when prebooked online See carparking link….

  • Tried J448 and P447 and couldn't get it to work.

    • Same, I tried when this was first posted too…

    • Works on a mobile device - iOS for me. The Book Now button is on the Cruise Finder Search Results page …. do a Find a Cruise Holiday - apply your filters and up comes the Cruise Finder Search Results page

  • OzBargained? "We're very sorry but we're currently experiencing problems with online bookings. Please call our reservations team on the numbers below: "

    • They probably never had so many bookings on one day before.

    • I think it's safe to say that now. Expired.

Good for all those that managed to get a booking in.

If this is P&O from Sydney, it would be Pacific Jewel or Pacific Dawn. P&O are phasing out the buffets, they had already greatly reduced what was available between the two trips we did on the Jewel.

Be aware of the 'charitable donation' that will be added to your bill, it is expected you will pay that even if you have bought nothing else. This is mentioned in the small print of the cruise guide at your door on the first day. You can opt out - it should be an 'opt in', not forced - but the staff will stuff about trying to 'find' the papers to cancel it. It is only a small amount, but it is the principle. I decide those things, not a transport company.

Booking online dorect with P&O still goes through Carnival - check your card statement carefully as you MAY be charged in USD, resulting in FX fees as well. This happened to me & it took weeks to get them to admit it & refund the difference as all the pages state AUD.

Food & drink prices… captive audience = worse than night clubs.

Two trips on them & NEVER again.
