so, I buy these for myself, get 10x points etc.
then when i redeem for my flight, do I get the points from that flight too.

    • +3

      Yes you do

You won't earn points from redeeming the vouchers but you'll earn points from the Qantas flight that you use it to book once you've flown.

So assuming you use a QFF rewards credit card to buy a $300 Qantas Voucher to book a discount economy return flight Melbourne to Sydney, you can earn 300 points (from the credit card assuming $1=1 QFF point) + 3000 points (10x points promotion) + 1600 points (2x flight leg with minimum 800 points per leg) = 4900 points.

Compared to only 1900 points + $7 credit card processing fee if you book directly.

If getting these as gifts, does anyone know whether they just come as a PDF that you can print out and place in a card?

    • +2

You can customise the voucher a bit and it shows the name of the recipient as well as your name. You receive a PDF from Qantas so it would work in a card.

If you use a $100 voucher for a $200 booking, do you get $0 booking fee for the entire transactions?

    Thanks

    • +1

Yep I believe so. It's a good way of avoiding the credit card fee if you just want to buy the lowest value voucher.

      • +1

Could you also buy a multi thousand dollar voucher and use it many times?

        • +1

Yea. I think the highest denomination you can buy is $2000. As long as you can spend that in 12 months I don't see why not. Balance left over from a booking is rolled over

          Looks like you can.

          http://www.qantas.com.au/travel/airlines/voucher-terms-condi…

          QANTAS t&c states:-
If the full balance of the voucher is not redeemed in one transaction, a new voucher with the same expiry date will be issued for the unused portion of that voucher. Subsequent vouchers will be sent to the email address supplied for the first adult listed on the voucher. If no email address is supplied for the first adult listed on the voucher, subsequent vouchers will be sent to the email address of the person who purchased the voucher.

          Also:-
Only one voucher can be redeemed per booking.

The number of people on a booking redeeming the voucher must be equal to the number of voucher recipients. The number of recipients listed cannot be changed.

  • Can you use Qantas vouchers on Jetstar website bookings? (I suppose you can book via qantas.com on their codeshare arrangement)

    • the codeshared jetstar flights have a higher dollar cost than if you just book them on the jetstar site.

      • I wonder if that is because you get food, luggage and points included when you buy a qf flight on a jetstar plane? Has anyone seen any analysis of the value of doing this?

        • I didn't know you would get food if buying Jetstar flight through Qantas site. I have not tried buying domestic tickets this way but once I tried to buy Perth-Singapore using Qantas website, it redirected me to Jetstar website, so just a basic fare: no check-in luggage, no food but the fare somehow seems to be a bit cheaper.

    • I think you can only redeem these vouchers via www.qantas.com.au/giftvouchers or the Qantas Contact Centre which will incur an additional fee

      • Has anyone tried booking a Jetstar flight via the Qantas website using these vouchers?

  • I bought a $300voucher off of eBay and used it online. My flight was about $330 and I am fairly sure there were no extra fees.

    • You are correct.
I just bought 2x $300 vouchers, and bought two $309 flights. Only had to pay the extra $9 on each booking with no booking fee! #happychappy :)

      • That's great, so did the vouchers come through instantly fir immediate use?

        • It was pretty prompt. I'd say about 10 minutes?

Last year was an absolute disaster, according to AFF site thousands had to call and wait months to get their the redeemed FF points, hope this year its smoother.

if i am using frequent flyers to get flights can these vouchers be used to pay the taxes.

    • +2

Nah, can't be used for award flight redemptions.

      • correct :( this is from T&C:

"Non-refundable and cannot be used for multi-city, Classic Award or Any Seat Award bookings, points plus pay bookings or redeemed for cash or other goods or services such as additional baggage or seat selection."

  • brilliant, i'll buy a few grands more worth this year

  • Hi,
Can I redeem one voucher with a booking for two people? or do I have to buy two vouchers?

    • That is fine, but when you buy the voucher, you need to specify both people's names.

      • Thanks :)

  • I need to book 4 tickets on Qantas Jetstar for me and friends. If I buy 5 x $500 voucher and book everything in one shot,
    Will I get the credit of the $2,500 x 10 = 25,000 QFF ?
    Thank you !

    • Yeah, however, you will need to book each flight on separate bookings as they only allow one voucher to be applied per person. Also be aware that you will need buy each voucher in your friends name so that you can book accordingly.

Do all that, and you'll receive your 25,000 points!

  • I want to use these to book flights for 2 adults, 1 child, and 1 infant (total ~$5000).
Any idea how many recipients I should list? It only lets you list adults, but if I just list the 2 adults will I then be able to use the voucher(s) to book for the 4 of us? Perhaps not according to this condition:

If more than one name appears on the voucher, any bookings made with the voucher must be for the number of people listed. The names on the voucher can be changed, but the number of names cannot. Only one voucher can be redeemed per booking.

  • Can I use a voucher and points (already earnt) to purchase an international one way flight? and I'm only a few hundred points from being a gold member do i lose the opportunity for gold if i use points up for the flight?

  • Got my points!
