I think your listed standby time is wrong. For example a Nexus 5 is rated at 300 hrs standby so in theory this little thing should be way beyond the N5.

If it's NOT wrong… well then this phone would be a piece of crap

    • Ridiculously inefficient, exaggerated battery, or both. The Nokia 108 claims a 31 day standby time (~750 hours) on a 950 mAh battery.

    • This phone has a net weight of 70 g. However, a 5000 mAh battery weighs around 150 g. Therefore, my guess is that this is not indeed a 70 gram phone with a 5000 mAh battery.

      • Hi, net weight doesn't include the battery.

        • wouldn't that mean that it's not the nett weight?

    • +1

Have you EVER achieved such long standby from ANY smartphone?

      • This isn't a smartphone and neither is the Nokia 108.

        • I was responding to jzdhgkd. He mentioned that Nexus 5 is rated 300hrs standby.
We can both agree that Nexus 5 is a smartphone. I swear that I have never ever had a smartphone which would stay up for more than 100 hours even if I would not touch it. Ever.
In real life the battery lasts about 24 hours. If I don't touch it, then 2.5 days. My old "dumb" Nokia lasted about a week with no problem. I think it was also rated for 300 hours. My point is that in my opinion those numbers are completely useless and you are better of just guessing from the type of phone and the size of the battery than going by those ridiculous numbers.

      • Nokia e63 FTW! :)

From what I can gather the official-ish website for the manufacturer Xiaocai is http://www.coko.com.cn/?product-135.html

It's all Chinese but seems to be 1632 hours standby (68 days).

  • thats a big battery, why such small stand by time?

    • +2

I checked elsewhere, and I think it's supposed to be 360hrs. Changed it in the description.
But with a 5000mAh battery, a "thick phone" should be able to last a year :)

      • haha you'd think so, 360hrs sounds much better, though this one is too slim for my liking.

  • +4

It's got LAND RDVER written on the back :)

    • +4

Also, that is not reason why I voted positive on the deal. It's because I think $35 is a reasonable price for a dual sim, unlocked phone with a 5000mAh (maybe) battery which you can use to recharge your other devices. Hell it can even take pictures.

    • +2

Ah China you crack me up

  • 360 hours is nothing! My Xperia Z2 is rated at 740 hours with a 3200mAh battery and a WAY more demanding screen, CPU etc.

    • +3

You are aware standby is when the screen is off & the phone is basically in hibernation… it only shown newer modern smartphone are better in this state, which really shouldn't be a surprise.

M8. A massive battery coupled with an inefficient CPU doesn't mean anything. Good idea, poor execution.

    • +9

I think the phone is pretty much an afterthought. Think of it a power bank that also happens to make and take phone calls.

  • +2

If you were using this as a back-up phone/battery, then likely it would be turned off until required & therefore should last many months with only minimal drop in battery?

    • +1

Exactly. Standby time is pretty irrelevant for what this phone is likely to be used for.

    • -1

Unfortunately, it won't last months, as the battery will discharge itself, even when the main load (phone) is turned off.

      • Mate, self-discharge rates for Li-ion batteries is around the 1-2% per month, so at 6 months it should still have over 80% charge.

  • Garbage.

I would honestly buy this if they showed the phone going under water for 5 minutes and surviving. I really doubt that'll happen though.

  • @Leftdrop, is an online PDF manual available? This could be perfect for my Dad. He's always working on his car, in the garage, in messy places. He HATES smartphones and just need a basic phone with an alarm clock, and preferably a calendar. He's hard of hearing though, so I need to see if it works with a T-loop.

    • Hi, I will check this tomorrow. If there is one, I will update here.

  • +2

Why not just buy a power bank to charge your phone that has more than just GSM reception?

  • +2

Is this posting coming from 2002 's archive of oz bargain ? ;)

  • +1

5000mAh should be able to do 3+ months for such a phone. If it lived up to expectations I would buy one right now.

    But this looks like junk.

    • Just because it's using a garbage OS doesn't mean it doesn't have a power hungry CPU, its an MTK chip which means lots of power drain. The phone is just for backup (i.e. the entire purpose of this device), don't judge the battery off it.

  • Late 90's tech I choose you…

  • Reminds me of this one that I used to own - http://www.cnet.com/products/sonim-xp3300-force/ appears to look similar
Different Specifications and price tag though.

You could freeze it in a block of ice, then smash the ice and the phone would still be ok, throw it off a building, drive over it with a car. - I'll miss that phone.

Looks like excess stock of the Land Drover special edition (1850 mAh battery - 1500 hour/62.5 days standby) of this with a few spec bump ups.
