Seems like a pretty decent price for a 7.2 receiver with airplay, 4k passthrough and networking

If I wanted to use it purely as a 5.1 system … ie with just 5.1 speakers, will I have any issues?
Should be good, leaves you open for either zone 2 or bi-amp for serious front L/R setup.

i have a 673 which is almost identical running it 5.1 with no issues at all. in fact you can use the spare channels to pump more power into your mains if your mains support split feeds (tells you all about it in the manual)
i LOOOVE the android app for these as well. also controllable from a built in web page via your PC
Thanks for the replies.
Could you also please comment on how it compares with this AV receiver (besides the fact that it supports 'only' 5.2 channels):

Great price, I have the 671 and would definitely go Yamaha for my next receiver!
This doesn't have the mcass or auddesay (room Speaker adjustment) does it?
That's one feature I would really like
It has YPAO - Yamaha Parametric room Acoustic Optimizer.
A heads up regarding "4K passthrough".
This is just one of many discussions about claims regarding 4K capability:
http://www.avsforum.com/forum/90-receivers-amps-processors/1…If it's something people want in their receivers then I suggest a bit of reading is in order. Google HDCP2.2, the new 4K standard delivery method, as a starting point. I wrote a basic summary of what I discovered about 4K claims on the OzB forums but I'm far from expert on the the issue so no responsibility etc. If you know more/better feel free to add your comments.
bought one from Amazon.it for $550 inc. shipping two months ago - brand new one!
How does warranty work with Amazon? Do you have to pay for warranty shipping abs where do you ship it to?
I had the older model of this, very feature packed and the on-screen GUI functioned well. Sound was reasonably clean and loud but definitely mid-low end. The Pure Direct mode is excellent for driving your line-outs like from DACs or iPods.
Biggest pet-peeve for me was Yamaha's arrangement in 7.1 mode of using the L/R as your rear channels in 5.1 sources not rear L/R. So when playing 5.1 rear sounds were at your sides. Also you cannot virtualise 7.1 from a 5.1 source, only stereo. Sony branded receivers played nicer for me in those areas.
