  • Will Windows 8.1 run OK on only 1GB? Can you install Linux on this?

Not sure the price is anything special:

    • I don't have this computer, but my general response:

In 2001, did you think your computer ran okay? If so, then yes, it will run okay. Otherwise, you will think that it's a little bit slow to respond to clicks and a bit slower opening applications. Okay for fun on the go or mucking around. But for work you can save a bunch of time if you get a more responsive computer.

Only uses 400-500 MB RAM on idle. Video review: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k-xxYHpBEvQ

      • According to Intel the Z3735G SOC it self only supports 1GB of DDR3 memory.
        http://ark.intel.com/products/80275/Intel-Atom-Processor-Z37…

        -
        Memory Specifications
Max Memory Size (dependent on memory type) 1 GB
        Memory Types DDR3L-RS-1333
        Num of Memory Channels 1
        Max Memory Bandwidth 5.3 GB/s

The Z3735D is the better one, allowing twice the memory bandwidth and 2GB of RAM to be used.

In 2001, did you think your computer ran okay?

There has been a lot of software bloat since then, especially in Windows.
Even OS-X or common Linux distros will struggle with 1GB, and I suspect Windows is still worse.

Is Windows 8 leaner than Vista and 7 ?

It costs $100 in China plus registered mail to get here plus free keyboard case, stand and etc… $123.99usd is a good price imo.

Keyboard case is too expensive. No thank you.

You can get these on Windows tablets??? Can someone show me how to get them on my Surface Pro? Would love to spice it up with some android apps :)

what? do you know what a pc is?

      • I suspect he was referring to the Android market part of the software list

Surface runs Windows RT, and can't run them. Like the Surface Pro series, this tablet runs Windows 8, and can run them.

    • The apps are in the windows store.

  • Wish Dell would drop the pricing of the Dell Venue Pro series in Australia. The Venue Pro 32GB sells for $205 on amazon but Aussie Dell goes for $398.

You should see Lenovo's regional pricing.

  • Any other competitors in this price range? (with hardware keyboard)

  • I must really be out of touch these days but - is android market stock on Win8.1?

    I'm guessing emu?

    • +3

There's a pretty good explanation here, but it basically requires you to run Chrome so that it can run within the Chrome runtime. There is no emulation involved.

      http://lifehacker.com/how-to-run-android-apps-inside-chrome-…

    • Chrome…. but honestly 1 gig of ram is a waste of your time.

      • Depends on how basic your needs are and if you are OK with uni-tasking, 1 gig is OK to browse (albeit cutting back on the browser tabs), watch a 1080p vid (solely that), and run the Nokia Here maps software. It does have a GPS chip afterall.

The actual performance killer however might be the eMMC memory. This tablet would be fast if had SSD, but the flash storage used in these units have limited memory bandwidth and would be fairly atrocious in terms of read/write speed. Wouldn't be good for virtual paging…

I tried it ages ago in beta, worked really well. Though now that I have a semi-decent phone I don't have a use for mobile apps on my PC.

  • I'm curious to how this runs windows update as there wouldn't be any space left.
