  • What do you guys think about the Motorola Moto G 2nd Gen? Thanks

    • +1

      it's a pretty good phone.
Here is some info on it
      http://www.motorola.com.au/consumers/Moto-G/Moto-g-gen2-au,e…

      • I bought the MotoG 1st for $179 last month. If I know the price of G2 comes down so early, i would wait.

        • May find info you want re G2 on this earlier thread

        • +1

          Thanks for the help guys!

        • +1

          @123bargain:

I bought one in the Good Guys deal. Incredible phone for the price!

    • +8

Speaking of the 2014 5" version, to be clear for everyone.

I bought a couple to replace old iPhones, and I utilise the dualsim ability in mine (putting work phone sim in it makes it partially a tax write off).

It's great. Screen is delightful, it's quick, browsing the net is fine, emailing and texting is snappy, it holds the terribad Optus 3G reception better than my old iPhone. It's light, a bit too big (5" is a silly size for a phone, but whatever). The 8mp camera is a phone camera, though the 720p/120fps recording mode is a bit of fun. It didn't come installed with any bloatware, which was great, nice clean UI from the getgo.

For $210 delivered or whatever it was from TGG, I'm very impressed. If you have more demanding asks of your phone, it's not hard to find it's shortfalls, but otherwise I heartily recommend it.

      • "LaTerrible" was that $210 price for the 2nd Gen? I really want this 2nd Gen Moto G to replace my Nexus 4, but hate paying more than the known up to now lowest price.

        • Nexus 4 is FASTER than Moto G2. I just ordered Moto G2 to replace my Galaxy S2 and I don't think it's much of a update…

        • @kinfungl:
Galaxy S2 was well over $600 at release and still $250 before discontinued, and was also a flagship phone.
I know that a Nexus 4 would be faster when playing games and benchmarks etc, but for every day normal use I find even a decent dual core and 1 GB ram makes everything run smooth enough if not bogged down with heavy skin and loads of apps and clutter. My Nexus still stutters on some apps especially when receiving data over internet. I look for a fast data modem, decent camera and screen quality/size, up to date O/S and most of all great value for money between $100 to max $300. I prefer to spend more on a good tablet and a few laptops that are not as prone to dropping/stealing/losing/water etc etc.

    • +1

Just bought one with this deal to replace my 2yr old nexus 4 that some ":>@#$@$" stole . It's slower with less ram etc but on the upside it has a slightly larger screen , better battery life , front facing speakers , SD card slot and is splash resistant .
The only thing I'll probably miss is the very minimalist android experience , I hate bloatware . The splash resistance is something that I hope will keep the sweat out while running .
EDIT , poster above says no bloatware so thats cool .

    • Similar awesome specs for the price like Gen 1 & Gen 1 4G, this one has larger 5" screen with same HD 720 x 1280, hence a little larger and heavier ( 0.6 mm thinner ), upgraded 8MP camera, Upgraded front cam from 1.3MP to 2MP, all other specs the same. Both can be had in 8 GB or 16 GB storage, this Dick Smith listing is 8 GB.

Two important points to keep in mind with the Moto G range, whether you need/want 4G or not, as they are bound to release a 2nd Gen Moto G 4G in a couple of months.
Also from my research, the 2 nd Gen is slated to get the new big Android L update which will keep this phone nice and fresh and futureproof, where the 1 st Gen is not yet confirmed.
One of the best value smartphones on the market worldwide under $300>. from a reputable company complete with 24 months warranty.

      • I forgot another important difference, the 2nd Gen has micro/SD memory slot, that's a biggie for some people.

  • +3

    Rayman Legends PS4 $29.70 Was $59.98

Great game, great price! Shame the XB1 version is $48!!

    Motorola Moto G 2nd Gen Unlock $219.45 Was $269

VERY light on details - wow! Nothing on the page at all… I'll assume it's the 8GB version??

    • I would say so. I think the 8gb version is the only one available in Aus at the moment..

      • Yeah, just reading that now. Still dual SIM as well!

  • do not waste your money on purchasing a 16GB iphone unless you are getting it incredibly cheap. You will regret it. I don't know even understand why apple sell it. This is no where enough storage for all the apps, music, videos who will undoubtedly put on the phone. I would only purchase a 64GB model. 32GB is even pushing it.

    • +10

Or for those that undoubtedly won't put lots of music, videos etc on their phone they will have no problem with 16GB. Don't assume everyone uses their phone the same way.

    • +2

well 16GB is not exactly 16GB. You get about 13GB and if you are doing a major upgrade, make sure have a spare 5GB.. taking these things, it is fair to said it would work well with Baby Boomers!

    • +4

What about if you don't put music on your phone (e.g. just use streaming)? Also, does the iPhone allow you to easily store your photos on the cloud and retrieve them when needed?

      Would 16GB be enough then?

      • Just use icloud

        • -1

to be famous by leaked selfies?

    • -5

I second that. 16GB iPhone 6/iPhone 6 Plus is waste of money, since the storage(about 10GB left apart from iOS 8 and daily apps) is not enough at all, unless people do not store many apps/photos/music into it. When doing iOS upgrades, most 16GB users have to delete some stuff to make enough room for the upgrade.

People who bought 16GB iPhone 6 simply want to show off towards everyone "Look, I've got an new iPhone 6." Poor 16GB users…

      • iOS devices without enough space to perform a system update can be plugged into iTunes and updated despite the amount of free space.

    • +3

What a clever blanket statement! I'm sure it applies to everyone. Oh wait, I have 6GB of free space on my iPhone 5 16GB. Maybe you are wrong.

  • Why does it say nowhere what the actual deal is? Is it 5% off? Is it just the items listed or other things?

    • +1

I didn't post that as a deal as 5% off is not good, the code is only there as an added bonus on top of the online exclusives. There is a comment above with exclusions :)

  • Grabbed a moto g thanks!

  • -4

16GB iPhone is a JOKE. They have to go lower than $400 only then is worth.

    • +3

6? You have to wait another 3 years

  • +1

Just bought the Moto G, upgrading from a terrible Samsung Galaxy Ace from 2011. Pretty hyped.

  • +2

Grabbed the Moto G. $210 delivered with the AMEX deal. Thanks for posting. =)

      • Current status for me is : Awaiting Fulfillment

        • Received shipping confirmation and on it's way :)
          You snooze you loose .
Good luck and I hope your order isn't cancelled like a few of mine have been in the past .

        • Mine is now dispatched.

        • @drillvoice:

Mines on board with driver for delivery . Very impressive considering I'm in Perth W.A. AKA: Wait Awhile . Next day delivery from the East for a cost of $5.00 .

  • Just bought the Moto G 2nd gen $224 in total. Thanks for posting.

  • Hey guys, I need some advice or recommendations. I am currently using a Nexus 4 8GB and am still happy using it and enough storage size for me and really looking forward to getting the L update soon. As my eyes are getting worse, I do like a phone with a bigger screen, so would like to either get a 2nd Gen Moto G or wait for when/if the price of the Nexus 5 drops around the $300-#330 mark delivered, no more.
What thoughts do you guys have on this.

    • +1

If you can wait then the Nexus 5 is an obvious choice. Snapdragon 800 vs Snapdragon 400, 2g vs 1g ram.

      • Thanks. As I am not a serious phone gamer or phone yupy who needs the absolute best and latest features and specs, I really try to look for a good specs at a great price, and I do like up to date software. Nexus 5 has twice the ram, but also nearly twice the price too. Considering similar size/quality screen and camera, both will get L update, I can not justify paying $420 +- now for a Nexus 5. For me quad core cpu and 1GB ram makes phone run smooth, especially with lower res screen. I have convinced my mum to upgrade to this so that solves my need to decide today. For mum, this will make a great upgrade from the LG L7 Optus Prepaid ( +-$220 ) I got her a year ago to get her introduced to smartphones.

      • +1

No problem. I don't play much games on my phone either. However, the user experience on Nexus 5 would be much better due to spec differences. Moto G would actually be a step down from Nexus 4 in terms of user experience. If I am not mistaken ART compiler on Android L would also uses a bit more ram for most apps. If you can wait for a $300 Nexus 5 deal it would be way better than this Moto G deal.

        • Good advice "maxhu", cheers. That's the kind of detailed convincing I needed. As you can see in my updated response to your comment above, I have solved my dilemma. I can wait for the price to come down on the Nexus 5 and then pounce, and still get a play with this for mum. Deep down I knew the Nexus 5 would be better in the long run if I can get it for the $300 mark. It will get more updates too for another year, and hardware should handle that with ease.

        • Rumour has it that the "Nexus 6" will be announced on the 15th or 16th of this week and if it is the discounting of the Nexus 5 should be happening about now .

        • @troyww:
Thanks for your tips. Been keeping an eye on the upcoming release of the Nexus 6/7/8/9 and new L update. Snapped up the Nexus 4 8GB last year when it was reduced to $269 delivered one month before release of N5. So far not yet :-(

      buy spectacles

      • +1

Hahah, an idea. Eye specialists have been saying that I could use glasses for over 20 years now since I was in my early twenties, still almost the same now. I always pass my eye test in my drivers licence upgrade. I prefer not to wear glasses even for reading, I prefer to upgrade my phone for less. After all, as they are both made with glass, if I drop either they can both break :-)

  • I can't believe the Lumia 730 is now 'out of stock' lol… seriously Dick, at this price I don't think many will buy it but it's out of stock? You're a joke.

  • Thanks. Ordered Moto G. But the order status is now "Awaiting Fulfillment". Does that mean they don't have it in stock?

    • Mine is also sitting in the same status.. Hopefully they dispatch today as per their email confirmation.

      • I haven't got such a confirmation. Just the initial email about placing an order.

  • how is "Motorola Moto G 2nd Gen" for $219? Usual price with the code comes 224.38$ only !?

    • Correct, delivered. Some people need to drive or pay for transport. In my case $20-$24 in fuel.

      • +1

I see !. Price of 219$ was with the assumption of click&collect - this is not allowed for collection anyway

        • Yes, a lot of people would have preferred that option. I think this model is in warehouse only, not yet in stores.

  • +1

Wow get back to Aus and see a billion DickSmith deals… what happened ? lol

  • Anyone know a good cover for this moto g 2nd generation ? EBay has 1st generation only a lot (local sellers)
