I have compared at least 2 different hotels on 2 different countries and rates on this website are about 20% higher. Thus, the discount just cancels out…..No Deal!

    • +8

I have got some really good deals with these coupons in the past.

    • That's not a very large sample….

      • -2

well I should say, 2 different hotel chains….equating to at least 10 hotels

Stuff like this needs to go to the ACCC I swear. Yesterday I booked a 4 night stay in Melbourne 23/1 - 27/1 for the Aussie Open. Booked straight hotels website (Accor) for $2850 for a 3 bedroom appt for 7 people. This appt was $50 dearer on Expedia

The exact same hotel/room on this site gets the following, and I cant even select 7 people as their website assumes you would only need 6 people (however the room clearly sates its has a roll away bed)

    Hotel (4 nights)
    6 guests $860.87 avg/night $3,443.48
    Promo code applied -$688.70
    Taxes and fees $344.35
    Total trip cost $3,099.13
    Best Rate Guarantee
    Your savings $688.70

They are literally jacking up their prices to apply the discount.

They are literally jacking up their prices to apply the discount.

You are comparing yesterdays prices on the Accor and Expedia websites with todays prices on ratestogo. All of these booking sites have different prices, you need to compare yesterdays ratestogo price on 4-5 hotels with todays ratestogo prices before you could come to that conclusion.

  • I just checked Stanley in Tas for Sunday night and its the same price as wotif, so the voucher would save me 20% so it does work in some instances :)

  • Not sure I agree with the negs. I had to book a hotel in Singapore last year, and after the discount I saved roughly the exact percentage of the discount compared to other sites. So original prices for that hotel were not inflated.

    • -3

my comments are based on current rates, not last year's though

  • +3

Don't agree with the negs either have used this to get some good deals. I thought the hotels provided the prices to these sorts of websites anyway. As always it pays to shop around on multiple websites.

always do your research - expedia 10% price beat :)

Same here guys!I've used Ratestogo in the past for some pretty good deals, even went direct to the hotel and received a further 10% Best Price Guarantee.
But this time round I did a dummy booking for Feb at a hotel I recently stayed at since I still have the links (Bangkok Eastin if you must know) and the rates on Ratestogo are 20-25% higher then directly booking on the hotel site.

So I'm agreeing with the Negs on this current promo.

    The actual offer states:
    "Participating Hotels Only, Conditions Apply"

  • Not going to neg but had a bad experience with them too…, Booking for 2 people is easy, any more and they mess it up as their fees don't cover the 3rd persons stay and sometimes they do, even they are unsure and provide incorrect info !

  • +3

I've booked heaps from rates to go with them coupons, they have been good to me!

For the hotel Im looking at, it works perfectly. Best rate of at least 6 sites Ive compared- including the hotels own. SLS Las Vegas

Just used this to book a stay for Sunday and it was the cheapest out of:

    • Hotel website
    • Trivago
    • Hotels combined
    • Hotel Club (with 15% coupon)
    • Agoda (with 10% off staff deal)

    +1 from me.

  • Worked for me! Saved $50 on a hostel.
    Thanks

  • Managed to get Expedia to price match on this. But find out that as part of price match expedia will give $50 voucher not discount. Any idea on how this expedia vouchers works and can i sell voucher to anyone as likely i will not use it…

    • did you ask for an extra 10% off with HSBC10?
      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/164935#comment-2295690

      • tonester….pls advise how can this work. I don't have HSBC card so if i call them with the code they'll know anyway. If somehow i managed to get 10% using this code I am still better off getting expedia to match 20% off from rates to go. Am i missing something. Any idea on how best to sell/swap the $ 50 expedia voucher

        • after they price-match 20% off ratestogo, you then ask to use the 10% off expedia code => 28% off ratestogo (+$50 expedia voucher) :)

    • Tried this today. First call consultant couldn't hear me, had to hand up try again.
Second call, much more helpful consultant. Had to check "with the concerned department" after he realised it was using a promo code - but using tonester's advice, I stressed that it was publicly available and directed him to the banner on the website and it all went through fine and have the voucher for next time (if I stay 2 nights and spend $350 plus). I didn't use the 10% off though as I don't have a HSBC card.

      • Turns out they stuffed up and they didn't price match at all even though they said they would. A mistake, so they have to listen to the call.

But they made it clear the they do not price match on coupons of any type.
