        You saved $400!

  • +3

    this is putrid business.

  • +11

Time for DS deals to be banned from OzB!

  • -3

There are 3,104 listings on their eBay store at the moment.

I collected price data yesterday when this deal was posted and again this morning when the deal went live.

28 listings have increased in price since then representing less than 1% of their total listings.

All you guys talking about consumer laws, A Current Affair, ACCC, shaming them on social media, etc. are hypocrites.

You know what most definitely is ILLEGAL in Australia? Defamation

    Neg away…

    • Hi kamoi, would you be able to upload the 2 sets of price lists? If only 28 items went up in price, then I think the anger in this thread is not appropriate.

However, 28 seems a bit low.

      • +10

it is significant if those 28 items are

-most wanted items (gaming console, tv)

-most expensive (gaming console, tv, laptop, phones)

-most likely to be purchased..hence less loss for them..or greater profit for them..whichever way you want to look at it..

so those 28 items could account for 80-90 % of their sales..

        • -6

          where's the ps4, xbox one

          your list is pathetic

and alot of the junk items you put in their aren't the most wanted

how did u get such a list up so quickly and on crappy items like

Dick Smith A76 Alkaline Button Cell Battery 1pk
Nickel plated joiner for 75ohm PAL connected cables
          Dick Smith High Bounce Balls
Dick Smith CR2016 Lithium Button Cell Battery 1pk

You want us to believe you been tracking crappy items like all those cell batteries and dicksmith calculators
You work for dick don't you?

        • @tyler.durden:
It looks like the first tab is only for items which have changed (up, down, or removed). Tabs 2 and 3 appear to have all items. So if it's not on the first page then, in theory, there should have been no change. This is assuming the data is correct (which I can't comment on).

        • +5

          @tyler.durden:

          where's the ps4, xbox one

The first sheet highlights the changes only.

There has been no change in PS4/XB1 price which is why it's not on the first sheet. Complete pricing is available on sheets 2 and 3.

and alot of the junk items you put in their aren't the most wanted

I didn't put anything there. The list is automated.

how did u get such a list up so quickly?

          Custom software.

          You work for dick?

No. Software developers get paid much better :D

        • +5

@tyler.durden: According to the purchasing history the Xbox One is the SAME PRICE IT HAS BEEN ON THEIR WEBISTE SINCE 20 JULY, only now you get 20% off.

        • +2

          @tyler.durden:

I just went through the 3000+ items. Assuming the snapshots are accurate(ie yesterday @ 8pm and today @ 10am), 28 items went up in price, 13 items went down in price and 100 items were withdrawn.

You should do the calculation yourself before saying its pathetic.

        • +1

          @Possumbly:

          that is not true,

          As others have pointed out

it got adjusted to new price 548

        • +1

          @aggregate:
Except we don't know how reliable his data is …

          As people have said

items have move on those items they were looking at previously..

you can argue with them and show them the sheet…

          And this

Jabba the Hutt 3 hours 40 min ago
Laptop prices yesterday evening vs this morning, for those that changed in price.

item Price 1/10 Price 2/10 Change After 20%
          HP Pavilion 15.6" 15-p025TU $559 $699 25% 0%
          Toshiba Satellite 13.3" $1,199 $1,499 25% 0%
          Toshiba Satellite 11.6" NB10-A02L/D $399 $449 13% -10%

          etc…

          ======

        • -1

          @kamoi:

Go argue with all the people on this thread complaining about the price jacking…
          Show them your excel sheet..

it is interesting/convenient that you only compare the date

          from 1/10 to 2/10

when we know they were adjusting the prices prior to those dates…

Nice, trying to pull a fast one on us..

I trust the all the negs and complaints on this thread
          more than your bullshit spreadsheet

        • +1

          @kamoi:

you could be developer for dicksmith website

why the hell are u tracking their prices…?

        • +2

          @kamoi:

"There has been no change in PS4/XB1 price which is why it's not on the first sheet. Complete pricing is available on sheets 2 and 3"

          That is complete BULLSHIT…

the prices have change, just ask anyone who has been tracking it this past week..

There's no change cos u only track it from 1/10 to 2/10
and you "claim" it been tracked at 8pm 1/10,

Why not track it prior during the past 1 to 2 week…

Your trying to pull a fast one on us with your bullshit spreadsheet..

          ==

Also just wait till after the sale ends..
See how quickly the price drops down…

        • +8

          @tyler.durden:

why the hell are u tracking their prices…?

So I can easily see if a good deal come up without having to manually look through 3000+ listings. I did it with the previous deal as well with the difference being that then they actually did jack up the prices for the more expensive items.

the prices have change, just ask anyone who has been tracking it this past week..

Don't take my word for it. Take a look for yourself. View all revisions for the XB1. Last price adjustment was made 25-Sep-14 09:27:08 AEST.

Look at all the negs and complaints on this thread…

@tyler.durden: Circlejerk. Happens every time with these eBay deals.

        • +1

@tyler.durden: calling me, or ebay, a liar? Instead of shooting your mouth off look at the history. It appears there are cases of gouging, this isn't one of them.

Read it then get back on here and apologise: (http://offer.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewBidsLogin&item…)

        • +11

          @kamoi:
Its a shame you didn't start collecting data a little earlier out as they may well have already made adjustments for today's sale.
I have to say though, really great work with that price software, Kamoi.
Is it something you would share with us?

        • @aggregate: withdrawn is as bad. They will come back after the sale…

    • +6

What about inconsistencies between their eBay prices vs online and in-store?

Why are we hypocrites? Oh and I'd love to see the Dick try and take OzB out for defamation. There'd be riots that make the Hong Kong ones look like peaceful afternoon tea.

      • +4

hong kong IS peaceful afternoon tea, they even cleaned up after themselves

  • +10

Bait and switch is not acceptable.

    • -1

If there are enough examples of this then I'd agree totally. Whinging without evidence and the all encompassing blanket statements evident elsewhere don't help.

  • +2

Say No to bait and switch

  • +8

This is the journalist to contact, that covers retail and stories like this if anyone wants to contact; [email protected]

  • -7

Not enough negs for all the stupid comments in this thread. Why is it that noone complains when Myer have 80% off advertised but only take it from the RRP not the sale prices they have through the year and noone complains? becuase everyone on this site is a stupid kid who needs to get off the computer and get an education.

    Stop watching Today Tonight morons.

    • +11

Myer doesn't increase the ticket prices the day of the sales.

    • Plenty of people point out that savings off RRP are not actual savings - happens all the time

Calling people morons is not particularly constructive

  • +10

surprising to see people defending such blatant malpractice

guess some people will do just about anything for dick

    • +1

      Aware.

  • +5

not a deal.. what a scam

  • +13

So essentially they have increased prices to factor in the 20% off

    Samples

    Fifa 15 PS4 Yesterday AU $67.98 Today AU $79.98
The last of us PS4 Yesterday AU $59.98 Today AU $69.98
Red PS4 Controller Yesterday AU $69.00 Today AU $79.98
LOGITECH Harmony Touch Remote Yesterday AU $129.00 Today AU $249.00
Seiki 55" (139cm) Full HD LCD LED TV Yesterday AU $599.00 Today AU $686.25

Sounds legit raising all their prices a day prior to the sale.

    • +1

The Seiki and Harmony may indeed be good examples for complaint. All previous DSE ebay sales were at $599 for the Seiki and most of the Harmonies $129, 149 199. The only question is whether they were on special at the better prices.

      • +3

Last week the Seiki 55" was $549 on the DSE website and $599 eBay. Before this eBay sale the price went up to $686.25. After the 20% discount the price is… $549, same as the DSE was for a week. No wonder there is so much mistrust for DSE on OZB.

    • +1

      The Touch was $129? Damn.

    • even FIFA 15 was only $49 during their happy hour deal!

  • +3

Why aren't we also negging all the other DSE sales where they increase prices to RRP before applying discounts?

    • +11

Because this time we probably have enough of this s**t?

  • +5

I feel for star64 as they've done a great job posting this up. But DSE is definitely scamming by the sounds of it.

  • +4

Anything I want has had the price jacked up and can be found cheaper elsewhere, even taking the 20% off into account.

    Example:
    Dick Smith - $79.98 - 20-% = approx $64 ($4.95 shipping)
    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/LOGITECH-Harmony-650-Remote-/2515…

    LogitechShop - $49 (free shipping)
    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Logitech-Harmony-650-remote-contr…

  • +5

Monitoring their price of mobiles for 2 weeks, price like lumia 520 goes up from 129 to 179,,, shame dicky

  • +3

It's funny that they are so devious at making profit on their sales, but they must lose money on most of the stuff I've bought, because of their practice of sending individual items in an order by separate courier drops. I had a courier deliver a cleaning cloth yesterday that I only put in the order to get free postage.

    • An $18 order took 2 courier deliveries. A previous order of $10- 2 pairs of headphones reduced from $25 to $5- also took 2 courier deliveries- they were same model different colour.

      • -1

Sounds like they need a new ebay and warehouse manager, or maybe just a far better stock/order system.

    • +1

I've had six items in five packages (two or three from the same store) for an order worth <$60.

  • +2

Lol @ the fight going on
Is there a deal for popcorn and coke? Cause it's definitely need here lol

  • +3

no Chromecast on DS ebay store :(

    • +1

Because it's too obvious to raise price.

  • +1

I hope OP does not feel bad with the Negs as it was never intended for him but for Dick!
I had voted positive before I was aware of the pricing scam and revoked it and tried to changed to Neg but it says I revoked hence cannot re-vote again (I had never revoke before; but felt compelled to do so but not sure how it works), so maybe that is why there is not as many negative as could have been?

  • +5

I think DSE can adjust its prices as it wishes but we can boycott it whenever we want to too. There is nothing to be mad about it.

    • +5

first world issue mate, why can't i have my xbox 20 dollar cheaper?!!

seriously, if it's not that cheap then dont bother, wait a little longer it would be cheaper eventually, if you cant wait then buy it. if you find somewhere else cheaper, then buy from the other store

life is difficult enough, why make it harder?

  • +3

so is there actually anything on the website GENUINELY on sale here? Or worth getting in on?

(P.S. also still flabbergasted at how some OZB'ers have so much time to trawl through ebay pages, populate spreadsheets and make comparisons in the middle of the work week. great work guys)

    • Galaxy tab s, it's new and most stores have them at the moment.

  • -2

Dick's math is not real good - 20% off my purchase of $103 he gives me $20.60. Should it not be $21? I want my 40 cents Dick.

    • +1

Do they have calculators on special? Pretty simple arithmetic involved.

      • apologies - 103 div 5, or 10% of 103*2 is obviously not simple for you tyler. it's awonder you can click that neg button.

  • +2

    Toshiba encore 8 inch $349. It was $249 :)

  • +2

the best thing about all these dse threads on Ozbargain - apart from the income they generate of course - is that they draw the trolls like pollies to a free meal, leaving the rest of the world that little bit sweeter

  • ITT: bad Dick puns…

  • If I could, I would retract my + vote. Any form of price fixing is not acceptable.

Also don't take your anger out on Dick Smith (the Australian helicopter-owning entrepreneur). If you're not aware, he doesn't own the company anymore (:

    • +1

he hasn't for a very long time :)

    • +1

      Go to top of deal.
      Click Votes.
Find your name in the list.
Click the small negative icon next to your vote.

  • Not entirely sure all the negs are warranted … yet. There is no scam committed yet as there is nothing stopping a business from prices going up and down. Until the sale starts and we can see what the prices are we should hold off judgement. If when the sale starts and the prices are still inflated then by all means flame … flame hard.

    • +3

      er the sale started today…

      • +6

My bad, I tried to neg myself but it didnt let me sorry

  • In DickSmith Store, do they match with the Ebay Store price? I have an amex 15 credit offer but only applies to purchase in DS store or DS online, not their ebay store.

    • They dont

  • +1

After a while (maybe a year?) I logged in jut to neg this deal. What's wrong with DS?

$185 for a pebble smart watch. Better than from manufacturer @ $114!

    • $139 in store, they price match OW

"PITCHFORKS Y'ALL PITCHFORKS FOR SALE 20% OFF!"

I think altho a low move, anyone expecting them to keep prices from previous sale price+ 20% off is abit silly, usually its rrp. Its just advertizements really, u see it everywhere, x sale in shop windows - i always giggle at the home-ware shop at my local mall thats been on a "relocation sale, all stock must go" for the past 2 years!

    • Anyone, besides the crickets?

  • Tab S 10.5 is still decent for Aus. Stock

    • Agree, any tab S is a good price.

    • Yes. 32gb versions actually DROPPED in price compared to previous sales.

  • Fail DS

  • Tried to get the 27" samsung monitor because it's the cheapest shipped i have seen it, and got some sort of "A seller has revised the item price or made other changes to an item below" thing and now I cant buy it
    Dick move Dick, dick move.

Edit: Scratch that, it worked after i removed the item from my cart and clicked "buy it now" on the item page.
Here is the monitor if anyone else is interested, MSY recently had a sale on it for $319 but it was $20 shipped and i got this for $324 shipped

  • +4

Howabout we play a game? Who can find the biggest price jump?

I just randomly opened a couple of items: check this out!!

    http://offer.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewBidsLogin&item…

    24th Sep - $18.86
    2nd Oct - $54.98

Percentage wise (900%), this (posted earlier) will be hard to beat. Note some naive person paid nearly $30 for a $5 item.

I'm waiting on a credible explanation and will be reporting the behaviour if it's not forthcoming.

      • -1

so they had a sale and then it went back to normal , whats the big deal

        • If you'd bothered to look before commenting you'd have seen the "usual" price and understand what "the big deal" is.

  • +4

Neg for raising prices before sale

  • +3

    Nothing worth buying.

  • +4

pretty nasty business raising prices before a sale like this.

  • Silly of dick to increase prices, EBay are footing the 20% off so they still make the sale that they had previously for the full amount that it was originally priced at.

    • Not necessarily. I'd guess it's 10% each.

  • +2

    Simple. Boycott!

  • +2

Late for the party!! Haven't followed any items on DS unlike what I did for the recent TGG sale. Wrote to TGG and got a standard reply. But reading the examples makes me feel like I will do injustice to TGG if I don't neg this one. Ummmm….

Overall, I am quite saturated with these eBay store sales. You find a handful of deals browsing over a few thousand items. It makes so much sense to post individual deals which members actually do.

  • +6

Whilst I have no particular axe to grind against DSE, this pricing debacle is simply deplorable…in all good conscience, I had to revoke my + vote, sorry OP.

Jabba's excellent table was a bit of an eye-opener! :/

  • +2

Not a deal, not a bargain. Wasted my time. Stupid Dick!!
