        • I'm used to that now. Doesn't bother me on a laptop for internet browsing and other simple tasks.

        • are you seriously expecting FullHD in a 'real laptop' for anything less than $700? let alone $400~

        • @wbeer:

          see aldi deal

        • @tyler.durden:

Yeh, that's an 11" Celeron tablet, not a laptop.

        • @tyler.durden:

Looks like it is no longer available - the link redirects and there are no laptops there.

        • +1

          @wbeer:
Yes. I think most ozbargainers that have been watching decent tablet and laptop deals know that they can get a machine with 1080p for around that price.

There's been many deals on laptops/tablets in the past advertised here like the Asus Transformer, Surface Pro and more where 1080p on a laptop/tablet has been for around the $500-600 mark.

Here's one from the other day. Full 1080p on a laptop with an i5.

          @c0balt:
Those are tablets, which hardly command the same price of a similar spec laptop / ultra book

        • @nismo:

No, they are real laptops/ultrabooks. I even linked you to one that shows the specs and you may want to go have another look. Note how it has an i5 with integrated GPU? Did you see how it has an MSATA SSD? Did you see how it comes with Windows 8.1? And then you still think it's not a real laptop?

That goes the same for the Transformer, Surface Pro and many others.

They are full Windows 8.1 experience laptops/ultrabooks. You can install Steam and download Civ5 to any of those.

        • @c0balt:
The form factor is a Tablet, not a laptop

If you had have said it has the hardware internals of a laptop, I wouldn't disagree but calling a Tablet a Laptop is laughable.

        • -1

          So what?

It's not the form factor that determines the split between ultrabook and tablet, it's the specs.

"Ultrabooks run Windows, as any other laptop, while tablet PCs run Android or iOS (the iPad 2)."
          http://www.ultrabookreview.com/163-ultrabooks-versu-tablets-…

I can't believe you would call Surface Pro line a 'tablet' and not a 'ultrabook', it's the whole point of making such a device in the first place. The Surface RT being the lower specced tablet that can't run a full desktop experience.

Laugh all you want, just don't do it around colleges else you may find yourself the dunce of the office.

        • @c0balt:

Its not a bad deal, but its not a laptop, you can hardly consider anything smaller than 13" a laptop,

pretty much just slapped a keyboard on a tablet.

    • +6

Forget it. Dick has just upped the price to $699. It was $559 when I posted.

      • +7

dick smith, you are a bloody d1ckhedd!!

You don't loose any money, you just want more profit..

        • Can you do me a favor and at least spell lose correctly?

          thanx

        • +19

          *favour
          *thanks

        • -1

          @brawndo: I am very embarrassed.

          I did intentionally misspell Thanks.

  • Ohhh yeaah!

  • +2

While not presently likely, c'mon cheap PS4!

    • why not likely? are they going to exclude it from the 20% discount?

      • Oh I just meant in relation to recent ~$399 prices, and the likelihood of that occurring again. It seems the RRP is being applied liberally before the 20% discount and $399 is out of reach :(

  • Seller FB rating |96.2%| ..good grief they doing well for themselves. All while retailing a microsdhc card at ~$1k ..guess that wouldn't surprise me though.
practically nothing on Sale and next to 0 range. /blergh..:-/

    • +1

lol negative feedback = price error / "out of stock"

      • Those errors on bay should need a change/
behold that share of teething complaints 8^].

    • +2

Almost 1 in 20 transactions are bad though. That's high.

      • Especially when you put it like that. It's actually closer to 1 in 26 transactions.

  • +4

O.o I… I… want my money to stay with me.

  • Now if I can only get OW to price beat this, I can level up my ozbargain mojo

  • +4

The (profanity) just changed the price on chromebook :(

  • Good deal cant think of anything to buy though/

  • +1

that is an abysmal range of ps4 games…also, i think they have every single sims games for pc on there too haha

  • +1

Sorry but how do you Buy Now and only pay later when the code becomes available?

Assuming Ive got a Buy It Now and Add to Cart option - when I Buy It Now it asks to Review my order - do I leave it at that ?

And on Sunday or whenever I can then return and apply the Discount code ?

    • Use add to cart.

  • +17

Post your complaints about price jacking on their facebook….

    https://www.facebook.com/dicksmithaustralia

Why do they raise the price up before each ebay sale?

they don't lose 20%, they just want to more bigger profit..

    bloody d!ckheds!!

    • +2

Please also vent your concern here - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/163589

      • +3

I think it is better to post on their facebook page, cos it gets more views
and they are more image conscious and it is their main source of free internet marketing

        • also they are more likely to read it/respond to it
          than some forum thread..

        • +1

@tyler.durden: Yes time to have Facebook Likes linked to OzB :)

      • +2

I think the +ve votes speak on this guys behalf

        • +5

@Possumbly: yes I understand. There is only one thing I want to see that will make me happy, true stock indications online. I don't mind of things sell out quickly, but what geeves me is when you go through the whole purchase/login/credit card thing and then a day later are told sorry, your order is cancelled. I don't have the time for that.

        • @clarky: Agree entirely but that's not what this and other whingers claim each time one of these events is posted. Despite their hysterical and often (usually) erroneous claims thousands of buyers have received excellent deals/savings on the best available prices!, which after all is said and done is the name of the game. Some of these whingers think they ought to get 20% on items already on sale, otherwise we all ought to whine like stuck pigs and "run off to the ACCC because we've been misled". Puerile nonsense. And needless to say they don't like me and others saying so. Boo hoo boys, about time someone took you to task.

DSE's systems need to improve. They're currently surviving on the back of some obviously good sale prices but in the longer term poor service might well kill them.

Here's something they could legitimately complain about - I believe it's an offence to induce via an offer unless a reasonable stock level is available. Does not apply to auctions afaik.

        • @Possumbly: I believe it's whine like a mule and squeal like a stuck pig.

        • @bargainhunter: quite right

    • Might not all be paid by ebay. See above.

  • +8

lol i got the Canon 700D TLK from them during the 15% off eBay sale.. it was $999 then.. now it's been reduced from $1298 to $1297.50!! and even with 20% off it was still cheaper back then without the discount lmao

  • +3

7" Android tablet for $32 - probably crap, but hey $32!

    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/DGTEC-7-Android-Tablet-/261503157…

    • A high end coffee coaster!!

    • Even $10 you will get disappointment.

  • That brings the Sony 55" price down cheaper than what JB were selling it for. I'm on a phone ATM what is shipping like?

    • $4.95, like pretty much everything on their eBay store :-)

  • +1

have they jacked up the prices yet ? I'd love to see them done over by ACCC, fair trading, they sail very close to the wind on these deals.

    • +3

Said it plenty of times in the other posts.
Won't get done over by ACCC or fair trading. As Dick Smith doesn't control the sale. It is controlled by eBay which isn't even apart of DSE.

However if DSE did own eBay and eBay did a sale, then DSE raised the prices, then there is clearly a case for ACCC and fair trading.

      • +4

Seems like semantics. Either way the consumer is being misled, the ACCC should regulate.

        • Feel free to let them know: (http://accc.gov.au/contact-us/contact-the-accc)

        • +3

          semantics

          Also known as the law.

        • ACCC should do their job.

          When did they do that?

        • @cheapy: They do it, like in the case of Coles and their bread. They also bought a case against MSY about their warranty policies.

However they are confined by laws and legislations. Just because you feel it is unfair doesn't mean they have broken the law.

Its like driving on a highway, you are in the lane which has a huge line, a guy changes lane and skips all the traffic then cuts back into the lane, e.g. cutting the line. Yea its unfair doesn't mean it is illegal.

DSE has all the rights to changing their price, the law only protects businesses if they decrease the price too much (e.g. dumping) which causes anti-competition. However if they raise the price, there is totally nothing wrong with that. It may piss off alot of people, as you can see on this post, however if they don't care about their image, then they can feel free and legit to change their prices.

        • +2

@lplau: suggest you read up on consumer law - or just google ACCC harris scarfe.

  • +11

Just checked the price of Samsung UA60H7000, dick smith homepage's price is $2099, but dick smith store in ebay shows $2436!!!!! They are cheating!

      • +14

You are defending them so much like you work for the dick…

As you can see they are doing this shit dirty tactic each time…

just look at all the items (that ppl were watching) that are getting jack up now…

They are claiming items are discounted, when we know just yesterday, the prices were cheaper..

        • +1

glad you put "the dick" … otherwise that sentence coulda meant a whole other thing.. :P loll

        • -3

Not defending them at all pal, I'm having a go at you and others of your ilk. I've said it before in response to your whining but it seems you're a very slow learner. When you finally come to grips with the new marketing angd retailing paradigms - regular sales, shifting prices etc which aim to keep people looking and buying - then you might stop complaining, although I doubt it. You and others claimed prior to TGG sale that they were and would be doing the same - a few prices went back to their USUAL ebay selling price, a whole lot of others remained as they were. DSE - online and ebay - have obvious problems regarding "promises" regarding stock but the real issue with most of the ebay sales is that whingers like you want something for nothing. Regular heavy discounting is partly responsible for your attitude of entitlement, which is fairly typical of your age group I'd suggest - boom boom.

If you have evidence of price gouging then do the adult thing (lol) and ask DSE for an explanation before lodging a formal complaint to consumer affairs and/or the ACCC.

Bring on the negs - I love the reactions of your "demographic".

    • +1

Also wanted this :( Shame DSE!

  • +3

Are we all suspecting prices will go up just before 20% off like JB Hifi and other eBay discounts for DSE?

    • You might be, but anyone who actually pays attention will know that wasn't the case for MANY products. I'd say most, but like you I don't have any facts to back that up.

  • +22

    No deal.

Everything else looks to have been jacked in price, some things far more than 20%. Examples (click on the number of items sold to see past pricing) :

    http://offer.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewBidsLogin&item…
    http://offer.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewBidsLogin&item…

    http://offer.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewBidsLogin&item…
    http://offer.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewBidsLogin&item…

I am insulted that they think we are this stupid.

Plus, Dick smith will probably say "out of stock" if you manage to find and try to order a good deal.

I reckon we're going to have to look pretty hard to find a bargain here, needle in a haystack.

    • +1

It ain't Sunday yet and as TGG ebay sale showed many of their prices reverted to "normal" ebay prices just prior to the sale (perhaps preserving stock for the sale?). HOWEVER if their prices do not return to something very close to their usual ebay selling price then you have a legitimate gripe.

This one will be a good test because it's nearly 50% - $150 higher than the last 40+ sales: (http://offer.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewBidsLogin&item…)

      • +2

It is started on October 2 so it is today.

        • Yes, my bad.

    • +1

I think instead of complaining, we should make formal complaint with ACCC..

this is clearly misleading dirty tricks, just so they can get a bigger profit..

or they are paying part of that 20% discount that we are getting, so they jack up the prices to cover the cost of advertising the 20% with ebay..

      • +1

Follow the money… somebody is paying the discounts

    • +1

the ps4 sold at $399.20 in their history…

      http://offer.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewBidsLogin&item…

is still cheaper than the 20% discount now,

      20% of $548.00 = $438.40

      • +3

        What's your point?

That advertised special offer of $399.20 with eBay was available for a week and on an earlier occasion also, there's no point crying about it now and always expecting bigger discounts.

DS are allowed to sell things at normal prices. If they drop it again before this discount is over great, if not bad luck.

Too many people complaining in here and the good guys deal also. Too many pesimists, only seeing the bad side.

        • We may as well complain when shares we bought a week ago are cheaper today…
e.g. It's cheaper to buy DSH stock now compared to last month, but it was even cheaper in June. What you gonna do? www.dicksmithholdings.com.au/share-price

        • +3

if they didn't jack up the price, you could get it cheaper than 399.

and sold it at what it was prior to the jack up price we can get a better discount

          d***t ( 428Feedback score is 100 to 499) AU $479.00 1 24-Sep-14 17:41:50 AEST
          o***a ( 2 ) AU $485.00 1 16-Sep-14 08:54:46 AEST

          479 @ 20 = 383.2
          485 @ 20 = 388

  • +2

All of the various DSE items I have been watching in eBay, some for months, have reverted to what seems to be DSE's dearest, non-discounted prices. Many have incrementally decreased over time and then stayed at a certain point for weeks. Kind of like they have thrown the "remove all discounts" switch.
    Disclaimer:
This is just my personal experience on a range of items of interest to me, not a study of their pricing.

  • +16

Negging due to somewhat dodgy pricing practices. I really can't get behind this sort of behaviour. It feels a bit like Dick's getting behind me…

    • +1

I second that, I ordered and got charged $5 by paypal this morning for the gift cards but yet to receive a single email from Dick.

    • +1

Seems like they've unleashed their inner Dick.

    • +2

Negging for the same reasons as johnno07.

I've also had the "we have no stock" argument thrown at me two weeks after an eBay purchase. That might have been fair enough, except for the fact that the message came one week after I'd seen three of that item in my nearest store, and that others in the eBay sale history who'd ordered after me had reported successful delivery in feedback.

Once the hours on the phone chasing them up is considered, these are speculative bets that are only bargains if you don't value your time.

    • +1

      Does that make you feel…shafted?

  • In the 15% off eBay sale I bought something from Dick Smith but Cashrewards only tracked the base price and ignored the $5 postage. Is this normal? Can't be bothered raising a complaint over $5x2%=10c but I'd like to know.

    • yes it's correct. you only get a cashback on the amount for the item not shipping

      • I just realised that only 3 of 15 items I bought were "free shipping."
The other two items were won as auctions and paid in a cart through Cashrewards two weeks ago but they haven't been tracked. Should I be concerned? Or do auctions not count? Thanks in advance.

        • +1

Auctions should count, contact them and they will fix it up.

  • +8

I sent 7 emails before they finally admitted to not having the items in stock after claiming they would send the items "tomorrow" approx. 30 days after purchasing (I was told "out of stock" after 64 days). Couldn't leave ebay feedback because the timer ran out. They sent an invoice for the refund. Just checked and there hasn't been anything refunded yet (approx. 90 days into the transaction).

Pretty sure these guys couldn't tie their own shoelaces. I don't know how the ebay store is still alive…

Take a look at the feedback and don't waste your time with these guys.

    • +3

Now THIS is a reasonable gripe and observation about their feedback codhopper, well worth pursuing with the business (DSE) and/or consumer affairs, although you're probably sick of them. Refunds on nil stock should be immediate and they should ask you if you want to be advised when new stock arrives. Holding on to your money for any length of time is not on.

  • Do they normally offer their mobile phones on this?
And if so are they telstra locked?

Thinking say the new note 4, but then i think it's out after oct 4 anyway… but just for future reference in future DSE ebay sales.

    • Note 4 = Oct 29.

  • +4

Dodgy price jacked up and once it's good bargain they cancelled the orders as always

    • +3

or they say no stock left

or their employees buy it first..

  • it's a "ok deal" if you do plan to buy something from them,
but their price isn't most attractive…..they could do better!

    • +1

their prices on some items are more expensive than goodguys 20% sale
