Ban dick smith from this site …

you just need to justify yourself. I paid 200 dollars for 4 ps4 games (Farcry 4, new AC, FIFA 2015, new COD) with yesterday epic hour deal. Really happy with the price.

Kindle is still not cheap!!! I wish the ebay deal is back!!!

  • Coupon code is out

    CDICKSMITH

Still need to wait till 10am.

    Max $600 discount p/transaction. Excludes postage. 5 transactions p/person. Ends 06 Oct @ 23:59 (AEST)

Seems like we can't get a 99c discount on postage.

Has the eneloops doubled in price? $49 for tropical 8pack. $24.98 for Chocolate? I am still waiting for my eneloops for 3 weeks ago. Paid $19.95.

    • Better give them a call, my eneloops from last week are all here

D*cks, this was $319 this morning and now $399.

First that rubbish this morning with the "$5 giftcard" and now that… i think I had enough….

Negging DSE , not the post/poster.

    • It was $299 half a month ago :)

      • And some of us bought it then for 20% off that price :D

  • Is the price change linked to the fall of the $AUD and Dick's cost to restock his inventory? That eBay PS4 sale went for a very long time at the very reasonable price of $408 with all discounts applied. Lacking the hindsight, I should have known better…

    and the crazy $399 here>>
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/157890

  • To whoever put the code up thanks, did not see a code when I posted the deal.

  • What are their delivery times usually like? I head overseas on Friday the 10th and was planning on getting a Kindle, should it arrive by then? It's 6 full business days..

    • +2

It's a lottery in my experience. I've had stuff arrive in a couple of days and other stuff after several weeks.

    $498.75 eBay Store - http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/OLYMPUS-XZ2-CAMERA-ONLINE-/261532…

Before anyone harps on about it being an 'Online Exclusive Offer' and that we shouldn't be expecting discounts on already discounted items, the normal non discounted DS price for this is somewhere in the $300's.

E&OE. Models missing from this list did not change in price, while I didn't see any price drops. Basically, it's more 2% off vs yesterday, though that average would be a bit higher if the 15 or so previously non-discounted models were taken into account.

    • +25

CAn you send this to the ACCC ? LOL

      • +13

        Sneaky little buggers. D*ckheads.

        • +15

dirty Dick does the bait and switch. very low marketing tactic.

    • +13

Wow. Can't believe how dodgy that looks.

    • +18

This sale is actually a "scam". If this was pulled in-store by DSE what would the ACCC say?

After cancelled orders, items NEVER being delivered and obvious price gauging, I will never shop with DSE again.

      • +4

If this was pulled in-store by DSE then ACCC surely has a case.

However company law states that eBay and DSE are 2 different entites. Therefore if ACCC gets proof that eBay + DSE has been planning this, then they have a case that most likely fits into bait and switch or misleading prices.

Price gouging isn't a crime, banks do it every day to every single customer. lol.

    • +13

someone has to report this wow
      scamming at its finest..

    • +10

Is this actually illegal under our consumer law or just dickish?

      • +1

As far as I know it isn't illegal, however very dickish. lol.

Sadly they can easily justify their actions as "restoring prices to RRP", similar to most stores saying "50% off" but it only applies to non sale items, e.g. discounts don't stack.

        • +10

It's illegal. I've checked with a lawyer who works in consumer law. We should really report this but that would require a lot of screen-grabs etc and I'm not bothered. Anyone else ?

        • Hmmm did you give him all the details? lol.
Sounds fishy, I wonder which law do they break. Since techncally on DSE's books they sold the item at "their price" where as on eBay's books, they paid for part of the item.

80% paid by customer + 20% paid by eBay = Total Money on DSE's books.

I would understand that it is illegal if the discount was given directly by DSE, however in this case, the promotion is done by a totally different company.

I've seen many cases when the manufacturer provides a cashback and the retailer raises the price to eat up some of that cashback. Isn't this the same??? Shouldn't we go sue them all?

        • +3

          @lplau:

          http://www.comlaw.gov.au/Details/c2011c00003/Html/Volume_3#p…

Must not " (i) make a false or misleading representation with respect to the price of goods or services"

And also "must not engage in conduct that is misleading or deceptive or is likely to mislead or deceive"

    • +9

That's all the proof I need to neg the deal. Pretending there is a 20% discount when in reality it is actually only a discount of up to 10% and in most cases 0% (i.e. no discount at all) for these laptops. Highly misleading.

    • Hang on you need to check your numbers again. I checked the first 5 and the prices haven't changed according to google cache.

Also model HP Pavilion 15.6" 15-n218AX W8.1 you've listed at $2k but the actual price is 699. Do some number checking there.

      • +2

This was all done by hand, hence the mock disclaimer I put at the bottom. You're right about the one you pointed out - the figures for the 'HP Pavilion 15.6" 15-n218AX' are in fact for the 'HP Spectre 13.3" 13-3017TU', while the former was accidentally skipped past while compiling the list. An error and an omission, as suspected :D

Never actually planned to do a comparison, but then I noticed the laptop I had my eye on had gone up in price this morning, so I stuck Firefox in offline mode before revisiting the above pages, and luckily the cache still had them as they appeared last night.

    • +2

Can you get a list of all the other products that have been changed?

    • The price history is a better guide and on some items they do indeed appear to be price gouging, which when combined with a 20% off enticement could easily put them in hot water with consumer law. I've sent two queries from an earlier list (3m HDMI cable - probably a price error, and a Canon camera now about 30% higher than their regular price) asking them for an explanation. Not actually interested in purchasing. If the explanation isn't satisfactory or there is none then I'll be reporting their behaviour.

    • +1

Thanks for the table. This shows how greedy they are…

    • +1

Well, that's pretty disappointing that they've resorted to this tactic.

    • Far out. Scraping by as legal, but morally disgraceful. More than enough for a - from me.

    • Comment to neg based on above.

    • Looks very ordinary. I smell blood (Ohhh! …and lunch). Even if this goes nowhere ACCC-wise, I'll be taking a more jaundiced view of any more 'tricky' offerings.

    • wow. Typical DSE

  • +3

    Surely price fixing is illegal?

    • +5

This isn't price fixing. This is more like a case of misleading prices and misleading sales.
Price fixing is where all the competitors get together and set a price rather than competing with each other.

  • xbox one titanfall bundle after discount is 480 dollar, really tempted now

    • +2

hmm compared to the previous deals it's pretty average? eg. https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/162327

      • yeah it's pretty average but i guess it's a tie because this includes kinect ,a game and a headset for 50 dollar more than 2 games deal

        • +3

I'm gonna to give up this time. DickS is doggy.

  • will yesterday's Amex offer works? buy $100 get $15 back?

    • Doubt it. This transaction will be processed via eBay, not DSE.

    • +5

Definitely not. Amex offer doesn't work with PayPal

  • +3

:) yet tomorrow dse will be on the front page of OZB with yet another sale… hehe come on were outraged but really deep down we all knew they were going to jack up the prices … they've done it every other time.

  • they haven't changed Samsung Galaxy Tab 8 16gb yet still $249 will work out around $204 cheapest price I could find for it so far.

  • +7

    Fake sale with prices raised.

  • I think we are witnessing a live and ongoing travesty of online retail justice.

Next we should be emailing ABC News and Neil Mitchell.

    • Well unless they get some bad PR or warning from Fair Trading, they'll continue to do this. I just can't understand eBay's rationale for these sales.

      • Ebay is s*** scared of Amazon. Can't wait!

  • +18

Ban the cock from this site please adding 25% to everything then offering 20% discount ,off with dicks head i say.

    • +2

  • +2

was planning ps4 but after seing this :\

  • +5

its more expensive on their ebay store compared to online deals….

  • +2

This isn't a shot at the OP, but DSE, not much different to yesterday where Click and Collect wasn't available.

  • +7

The code for his next sale should be SOSORRY30%OFFREALPRICES

  • +3

Yeah, that's a low act Dick, shame on you!

  • +5

Naughty dick, needs a good hard slap.

    • Someone should dickslap Dick with his own dick

  • +4

Just found their online sale price is cheaper than their lists on eBay. Doggy!

  • +6

Fifa for ps4 was 67 half hour ago now it's 68 after discount jacked it up to 80

  • +5

No point buying now, same price with the price raise.

    Bad for business dicksmith.

  • +11

Sent an image of this sale to ACCC and SMH on twitter. Let's hope this gets somewhere. Not fair on the average joe.

  • -3

Why not wait to see what the prices are on Sunday before negging? Sure some of the examples that people have listed today look bad, but that's not to say they may not go down again between now and then.

      • +1

Ah thanks, thought is was a Sunday job again :(

  • +7

After seeing sufficient evidence, this is definitely NOT a bargain. Good job OP for finding it, but boo to DSE.

  • +5

Canon 700D Twin Lens ($999), now hiked to $1297.50.. (30% up) very dodgy business practice…

  • People seem to bounce up and down everytime Dick pops up with a deal, give Dick a chance, could be a far more enjoyable experience then you may expect or in some cases previous experiences

    • +1

I guess you don't have a problem with the dick

      but

How can we enjoy the dick
when his pisses on us each time…and gives us shit

    • +1

Yes, it seems like Dick offers genuine deal on one item in one sale, then recuperate the loss back by offering a dodgy deal next on hundred of items. Whoever in Dick's management or strategy department who come up with this plan, gonna get his/her arse bitten sooner or later.

      • Nobody complains when dick pisses eneloops at you…. haha

This is not the first time they did it don't believe them again.

  • Well they didn't change the price on the external HDD i just bought, so i got a handy saving of $20 .. thanks OP.

  • +1

    Absolute disgrace DICK!
Add on top of the insult I had true bargains cancelled or stolen by Dick Smith staff member in store claiming the goods are lost or not available….probably saw the bargain and bought it themselves by cancelling my order, I had this done to me at least 5 times already, whenever there is a true bargain e.g The $0.01 Camera bag & the Norton remote car (+ $5 delivery) , $5 Avatar Blu-ray etc, kind of made me give up when there is a true bargain as it always leads me to a waste of time! Add on top of that they do not even bother to reply to you after you sent the inquiry!!

  • +1

    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/16GB-microSDHC-Memory-Card-/26161…

    • +3

Finally for once, a price error in their favour….

    • +1

And you just know if someone bought it in error, they wouldn't automatically initiate a refund like they do when it's the other way around!

    • Thanks bought 2
