oh no RTX3050 still alive …

    • +6

At least it’s the 6GB variant

  • +3

Quite a disappointing Black Friday catalogue. I can't remember but has Officeworks always been like this?

    • +27

Given that today is Saturday the 16th and not Friday the 29th, pretty sure this is just another bi monthly sale pretending to be more that what it is.

      • +1

Makes sense. Hope they come up with some actual sales on or around the 29th.

      • +1

Agreed, hodl. Unless something is truly an amazing deal then no point buying.

  • +1

    Use gift cards

  • +5

Is there a link to the catalogue anywhere?

    • +1

Yeh, is there a link to the catelogue OP?

  • Does anyone know what Bunnings will do for Black Friday?

    • Fingers crossed for discounted sausage sizzle.

    Whoa, Macbook Air 13 M2 8/256 for $1547
Not only apple edustore has 16GB version for $1444, but even Officeworks itself is currently selling it for $1344 with "reduced to clear" badge

    • +5

      its the black jackday sale!

  • I was going to get my wife an iphone 15 for christmas, but this is way cheaper!

Can anyone who's rocking an the same iPhone 13 that's mentioned in this post, confirm that it takes solid photos/videos?

For reference, My lady is currently wielding an iphone SE 2020.

So basically anything will obviously be better, but I want it to last her at least 2 years.

Is it worth paying almost double for the iphone 15 - 128GB, compared to the 13 mentioned in this post?

    • +4

Yeah I’ve got an se2020 and my partner a 13. The photos are way better, the shutter is much faster for action and low light/night mode is better. A big step up. I don’t know how it is vs the 15 but I would think incremental upgrades.

      • +2

You are exactly in my situation, and that's exactly what I wanted to hear. Thank you

    • +6

Apple has their own comparison page. 13 vs 15 is mostly incremental upgrades.

      https://www.apple.com/au/iphone/compare/?modelList=iphone-se…

    • +3

Except the screen size, the jump from iPhone 13 to 15 is probably similar to SE 2020 to 13. If your wife is not a heavy user and doesn’t care much about photos and videos and just need a bigger phone then 13 probably makes more sense.

    • Get JB to price match and buy with discounted GC for more discount.

Eg $709 if you’re with Bupa.

  • +2

That's a $100 MORE than what I paid for that exact LOC about 5 months ago . $897 was the clearance price .

    • How has it been in use? Decent enough for the price?

  • What's everyone's recommendation for the iPad as a BYO Device for a year 4 student? Is 9th Gen still OK? or Must go 10th Gen? School has requirement that it must be an iPad, minimum 9th Gen.
I'm leaning slightly more towards the 10th Gen due to being latest generation and USB C.

    • +3

Probably fine, obviously 10th gen gives you peace of mind with a new processor it'll last longer down the track and maintain smoother performance over its life span. 9th gen also had physical home button which means the actual screen real estate is smaller despite technically having similar/identical inch screen size.

    • +3

Get a sturdy case for whatever version you buy

      • Any recommendations for a sturdy case with keyboard? Preferably wired keyboard or one that connects physically, not Bluetooth.
        TIA

    • +3

I'd go 10th gen for this price. Your kid will appreciate a better looking iPad without a home button from the last decade.

    • +1

10th Gen for better performance, bigger screen, usb-c, more modern look

      • +1

Was wondering the same as my daughter needs iPad for school next year. USB-c is a huge selling point for the 10th gen…

        • +2

9th gen. 3.5" headphone jack for headphones which are less likely to go walking than wireless. Big buttons easier for kids to press esp if in early primary.

10th gen for latest and greatest. USB-C, larger screen.

Don't forget to price in a heavy duty case either way.

          • @sirspiff:

9th gen. 3.5" headphone jack for headphones which are less likely to go walking than wireless.

Yeah that thought crossed my mind too. But you can still use USB-c -> headphone jack adapters right?

            • @NigelTufnel: Yep. USB-c wired headphones or a USB-C to the appropriate connector for the headphones. Just make sure the headphones are ipad compatible.

  • +1

9th gen is fine I reckon. I brought from the djs sale and its still kickin

    • +1

Why would u buy old model for $50 less.

      • 9th gen can be bought atm for $89 less, which represents a saving of about 18%. That's decent for one generation down that'll still last a couple of years or more (esp for kids).

  • +2

Don't get the RTX3050. RTX4050 is the bare minimum I would recommend.

    • +2

They both have 6gb vram in this case. The 4050 is faster and has frame gen but later down the line newer games will likely be unplayable due to vram. Black myth wukong I tested with a 1650 with 4gb vram on later chapters became unplayable due overflowing vram causing significant performance hits. Not sure how much longer 6gb vram will last especially with newer unoptimised games like monster hunder wilds. I would say for a budget a 3050 6gb is still fine. Not sure how viable a 4050 is at it's price point (normally $300 - 400 higher than a 3050 laptop) due to it's vram. For a modern laptop, I wouldn't want to go lower than a 4060.

    • +1

I agree with this comment. Having used multiple laptops with RTX3050's in them, they have all been dreadful. Lenovo, Acer, Asus all performed terribly with a 3050. The 4050's I've seen have had no issues, but every 3050 I used was absolutely terrible.
