Hi. How does the 120GB compare to this in performance?

  • Slightly getting better with the sales on mSATA.
But would be awesome to see some deals on M.2 versions!

  • +2

My goodness SSD prices are sinking, I had a good deal on a 1TB from SE a month or two back and it has dropped another $20!

  • Great timing..
The code works but why is it coming up with $9.15 to ship to Sydney 2000?

    • +1

the freight is waived under "discount". Can you please check again? And if your total price to pay is not as above, let me know.

      Cheers

      • I understand now.. thanx for the clarification

        • u r welcome :)

Hi Rep, as one of my shoppingexpress parcel got lost early last year, I was told to be granted 70 store credit (1/2 of total lost value) from your mate over the phone and been waiting for the store credit code sending to my email. But it never showed up.

So during the last year, twice I was about to shop from shoppingexpress after seeing great deal on OzBargain, and then contacted with your college James T about waiting for the store credit and wishing to use them for purchase. but every time after days emails conversition asking me to order first, waiting for marketing department to issue the store credit code, but it never ends up a solution. So I missed two deals.

And this is the last email I received from your college back in June 2014.

        Hi, Faye

Thanks for the details will sort it out asap for you.
        ill email you tomorrow.

        cheers.

        Kind Regards,
        James.

Could you please let someone look into this. For your reference, the two tickets I issued are #17760 and #20474.

Please help me solve this so I will not miss this deal again and start to shop with shoppingexpress again.

        Thanks!

If the order was lost, you should have not agreed of 1/2 store credit. You should get 100% refund back to your card, not even store refund.

        • +1

Was gonna cop one, but this is straight up dodgy, so I'll stick to paying an extra $13 from umart.

I'd ring your credit card provider and get a full refund.

  • Dear Rep,
Which one should I get to upgrade the drive in my 2013 MBA? Im seriously considering 500 gig…

    • -1

at the 500GB - most people are happy to stay with 840 Evo.

If you want faster and more durable ssd 840 pro (5 years warranty) or 850 pro (10 years warranty).
So far the 840 Pro is one of the more durable consumer ssd being tested (850 pro is just newly launched so there is no result yet but it is expected to do better than 840 pro).

      Cheers
      SE

    • +3

As far as I know, you should look for SSD with PCIe socket for your MBA. All the SSDs mentioned above are either SATA or mSATA, which will not fit into your MBA. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HrixBggrvRM

thnx, I have been waiting for another SE Samsung deal, purchased a couple, cheers

  • +6

Just a heads up that there is currently a bug in the 840 EVOs, where old files become slower to read over time, which could impact the OS installation :( More Info

    • Yep currently I am suggesting crucial mx100 or sandisk ultra II.

Samsung have acknowledged the fault and are preparing a fix (likely firmware)

  • Damm. Price drop from 149 to 125 in over a month for Samsung Evo 250 GB. Pretty goof price for the Samsung Pro 256.

  • This looks like some awesome prices, but can anyone point me to a way of working out which one I need to use to upgrade my 2012 mac book air? Is it the same as the above guy?

    • Apparently I need a M2 SSD… any chance of one of them on discount?

  • Getting a error when applying the code to the 850 256GB.

Special Discount 'Weekly Specials' from Shopping Express (SAMSUNG-SSD) only applies to specific products. Your order will be processed without this discount.

Rep could you please check this out. Would love to grab one.

    • it is already $210 free shipping without the code.
Do let me know if it is not.

      Cheers

      • Ah yes, Indeed it is. Thanks Rep. Any chance on some Hdd or NAS Hdd sales, just bought a 4 bay NAS, need to fill it with some Hdds. :D

        • noted. :)

        • @ShoppingExpress:

I have tried to order 2 of the 850 256GB and when I checked out, it still charge me $9.85 shipping.

Rep could you please check this out for me. Thanks

  • +2

Any chance of some HDD deals? And NAS HDD?

  • +1

Any chance of any of the M.2 ssd's, like the Samsung xp941?

  • Thanks Rep, just bought one.

      • Hey rep any indications on when and roughly how much you will be selling GTX 870 and 880's?

        • will try to integrate them into future promotions if we get a good deal.

      • lol, 2-5 days to Melbourne depending if it is sent via Couriers Please, In which case it becomes (in reality) 5 -10 days.

PLEASE stop using them and just send via Australia Post.

  • How do people feel about Samsung Pro 850 SATA SSD and V-NAND tech, is it worth it compared to the EVO's to have 10 year warranty? (or will SSD's move so fast we will most likely be upgrading in 3 years anyway?

  • finally, the prices for 500GB has reached the sub 250 AUD level… :)
with more cheap drives on the way.. it is only natural that price be at 21X to 22X level by silly season

  • which one will fit my old below laptop:
    Intel Core 2 Duo processor T6600 (2.2GHz, 2M cache, 800MHz)
    Memory:3GB DDR3 1066MHz memory
    Storage:320GB 5400RPM SATA HDD
    Interface Serial ATA-150
and will i get big improvement ie speed etc?

    • +1

Get the SATA one as your laptop most probably wont support mSATA, the difference between your 5400 rpm disk and even the crappiest SSD you can buy will be night and day.

      • ok got it mSATA is just smaller version and goes to PCI slot something like that.
all future notebooks laptops will be compatible with SATA ssd i think as long they have 2.5" hdd

how about my motherboard? its old so wont deliver maximum benefit by using ssd, but still better than hdd, is this correct? when i upgrade my laptop, it should have newer MB so the benefit would increase?

        • The SATA version of your motherboard is most likely to be the bottleneck, hence I wouldnt care too much about buying the fastest SSD. Simply put, any SSD is going to make your laptop run faster than when you first got it - the slowest part of a PC in the past has been the hard disk, the other parts of the system typically wait for data to be retrieved from or written to magnetic media.
If you do upgrade your motherboard, you should get a z97 motherboard which will give you a M.2 or Ultra M.2 port in which case you should get a M.2 SSD, as both SATA and MSata SSDs are sunset technologies. M.2 has direct PCI-E channels to the CPU bypassing the motherboard chips and have been demonstrated to acheive > 1GB/s throughput via Ultra M.2 and >800 MB/s with M.2 i.e same as MacBook Air (which uses a different connector)using currently available M.2 SSD Samsung xp941
However in all likelihood, you will forget about motherboard upgrades when you put even a vanilla SATA SSD into your notebook.

        • @laser:

          thanks a lot. bought one!

        • @erwinsie:

mSata is like an old generation wifi card on notebooks in size, most notebooks produced before 2012 has mSata ports, hence don't worry about it. just get the Sata one

  • any deals on the i5 NUCs? Looking to get one of these SSDs, NUC and DDR3L RAM(8GB). Can you offer any bundle deals?

  • I wouldn't buy a Samsung Evo SSD (specially 840) now. There is a nasty performance bug in them while reading older files.
    http://www.anandtech.com/show/8550/samsung-acknowledges-the-…

    • Theres a fix on the way for it apparently (Base don that article)

Every HDD platform and vendor has had firmware issues, just hope it dosnt lock out the drive vs making it slow

      • Chances are Samsung will fix it satisfactorily. But industry experience will teach one to avoid buying into the promise of a flaw or shortcoming in a product being fixed by a future software or firmware update - you wait to see that the promise is fulfilled, then buy.

    • +1

I have used more than 100 EVO SSD, all works well and no unexpected slowdown or faulty at all. Instead I won't buy other brand than Samsung and Intel.

  • wow 10 year warranty on an SSD drive 0_0 that's one hell of a commitment,

  • +1

Thanks SE rep, great prices. And here I was wondering if I'd try and wait for another MX100 deal :)

  • Oh my God I'm an idiot, I thought there was a section for credit cards so I wouldn't have to go through PayPal and somehow I promise a direct deposit.. Can I change my mind once I confirmed? =|

    • Not entirely understand your query. If you can PM me more details?

      Cheers

  • damn looking at http://ssd.userbenchmark.com/Compare/SanDisk-Ultra-II-240GB-…
this evo is better than sandisk ultra II. everyone agree? only $10 more or so

    • +1

Based on your link, if you use for system drive, EVO is much quicker drive, but the difference is about second or couple more, doesn't feel much different. But Samsung's SSD has long track record of top quality, that's where you should choose from, as long as Samsung don't swap the factory to new place.

    • +1

They are about the same in performance, if you are looking to put any of the drive in that Spec Notebook mentioned above you wont find any differences because your notebooks mainboard is restricted to dated SATA-2 speed that is 300mb/s max, both drives is capable of 600mb/s. so only Sata 3 level machines can sort of feel some differences, mostly only in benchmarks.

I have tested a eight different brands of SSDs, I fail to notice real life performance difference in between EVO / MX-100 and Ultra 2! (both tested with 5xx level drives)

  • +1

Keep an eye out for a performance firmware update in the near future for these SSD. Basically, these SSD suffers performance degredation when there is data on the SSD that's over 30 days old.

The link to the article detailing the current problem with Samsung 840 EVO:
    http://www.extremetech.com/computing/190746-samsung-840-evo-…

According to a thread at Overclock.net, the problem only occurs in drives with old data on them, where old is defined as more than 30 days.

  • Rep is the Samsung PRO 64GB Micro SD Class 10 UHS-I Memory Card MB-MG64DAAPC read 90 / write 80 ?

  • Been thinking about replacing my laptop HD with an SSD for a while. Does the drive come with cloning software to do this?

  • I'm a bit of a bonehead when it comes to these , last time i bought a msata that was wrong..I have a Dell "normal computer" latitude E6410 and I just bought Samsung 840 EVO Series 250GB Solid State Drives MZ-7TE250BW..have i buggared up again or will I be now be getting seamless donkey porn coming into my computer..that stuff takes up so much computing power..

  • Can anybody please suggest if I should I get SATA or mSATA SSD for a old PC with this motherboard (Gigabyte GA-MA78GPM-UD2H AM2+, AMD780G, 5200HT, 4DDR2, PCIE2.0, GbLAN, 2FW, mATX, VGA, UD, HDMI) ? Thanks

    • You should get SATA, that motherboard is a value model and the platform is a bit old so it doesn't come with a mSATA socket. It also doesn't support SATA 3.0 speeds, only SATA 2.0. However the SATA 3.0 devices are backwards compatible and will be much faster than a mechanical drive.

You can always re-use the SSD when you upgrade your motherboard later :)
