  • Can the recharge be used separately from the sim in the "14.95 sim + recharge" pack?

    • Yep, it comes on the docket like a normal recharge voucher would when you buy from coles.

  • I claim ignorance as my self defence but this post indicates that the above deal isn't such a good deal

For those who don't want to click, HN is selling the phone for $56 then you get the optus sim for half price at coles so total cost = $71

However, HN might be "E" and not "E1" and the "E" might be locked to telstra - can anyone confirm so I can be negged?

    Thanks

    • HN is selling the older E model from last year, E1 is the newer model that came out earlier this year with better specs

Personally, If I had to choose, I'd get the E1+recharge for $99 over the E+recharge for $71

  • Better that the E, but still only 512MB RAM, which is likely to be noticable.

  • I can vouch for the E1, both my kids have them. Got one for $99 and the other for $84 (some sort of DSE discount 15% off I think).

    • is the wifi problem with netgear modems (and others) fixed with the E1 ?

  • If you unlock this one through Optus's site as long as you meet their requirements, the site says the E1 is not a locked prepaid device.

However I was able to unlock my E1 by sending my details with my E1's IMEI via Optus's social media enquiry form & and received the unlock code for it within 2 days (in my case via SMS).

I have done this for several prepaid Optus phones.

Runs 4.4, while the E runs only 4.3. No physical dedicated shutter button but the volume keys can be setup to act as one.

  • Is this dual Sim?
And I'm confused as to whether this is locked or not… Cant find an unlock on ebay. Bagman can you unlock this? Might flog a few on eBay and stock up on the recharges

    • It's single sim.

    • It's also network locked.

    • Just be wary that the official Optus price for this phone is also $99 now. They recently reduced the price. So it might not net you too much more on eBay.

  • Aafus, you say it's not a locked device by that you had to unlock it…? So its locked? Can anyone unlock it free as you did? Thanks

    • It's network locked out of the box. The optus unlock site says it's not a locked device. I'll try unlocking through the Optus social site.

  • Just grabbed one. The girl behind the counter didn't know about the deal so I had to show her the catalog. She rang it up as normal without the recharge voucher by scanning it, so it turned out that there is a special menu option in the register to get it with the recharge voucher. The Xperia M is definitely better quality than this phone, but with the recharge it works out quite a deal for a cheap smartphone.

The recharge voucher is a regular voucher than can be used with any sim.
