Upto 20% Discount on Woolworths Car Insurance + $100 Wish Gift Card

591
wool20

Hi Guys..

Found this code lying around marked as expired on OZB. Gave it a try and it worked for me. It brought my premium down from $445 to $374. Thats good enough for a year's worth of insurance + I would get a $100 Wish Gift card.

Thats cheap for me. I got a Third Party property damage btw.

Note:- You would have to enter your everyday rewards card number for the promocode box to pop up. May be if u dont have one, ,you can use someone else's number.

Do comment with your experiences with the code. Have a happy and Insured Wednesday :)

coles insurance is cheaper for me

    • +2

Even after the $100 card ?

    • As is real insurance - and this is their form so i would check there too
Beware as they have a number of additional excesses they do not list on the quote, only mention in the PDS and which you need to call to find out

  • +2

when you get a quote you cannot tell if they have applied the discount or not. or is there somehow you can?

    • Is there somewhere you can enter the code ?
If yes, then get a quote without entering the discount code and then with code.

      • I did this, the discounted premium worked out to be a genuine 80% of the full premium.

As mskeggs said below, you need to enter your EDR number on the second page of the process for the promo code box to even become visible.

  • good timing, i'm up for renewal soon.
Has anyone previously been with WW, cancelled and signed up again? Is it easy enough to do that?

    • Yep, did it earlier this month with the $120 gift card.

      • Now you mention it, the staff member I spoke to mentioned $120 for this promo, not $100…I was assuming that she was mistaken, but we might be lucky enough to get an extra $20 bills! :D

        • +1

The code for $120 was EDR5 which expired on the 13th I believe.

    • I did that and even if they don't honour the card because I was with them last year with the OPs 20% discount I've saved 25% over their quoted renewal price.

      • In case someone searches this deal I can confirm that I have just received a $120 Wish gift card from Ww after cancelling my renewal (which is automatic, and more expensive, if you don't cancel) and taking out a new policy. Damned cheap insurance taking into account the card.

        • How long did it take to receive the card?. I'm' still waiting after 45 days.

        • @Rod71: 2 months

        • @Possumbly: Cheers, appreciate it :)

        • @Possumbly: Got mine today :)

  • +1

Does it confirm you get the giftcard? I can't see any mention.

    • +1

I just spoke to them, evidently the giftcard will be posted out "up to 60 days" after the policy begins…you should receive it in the mail without doing anything else if you've used the wool20 promo code! :)

    • i got a quote online, called them, gave the quote number and paid over the phone. he confirmed i'll get the card within 45-60 days

  • Hi,

where exactly do you punch this promo code?

    • +2

Near where you enter the everyday rewards number as part of the quote. I think you need to enter the EDR number for the promo box to appear.

  • +2

Wow, I was not expecting them to be that expensive.
$100 more than AAMI's and GIO's full price, both of whom offer a big discount for online quoting. About $300 more than their discounted prices.
    $300 more than Bingle.
    $70 more than RACV.

    • +1

Varies depending on your details, obviously. They are $70 less for me than YOUI's renewal.

      • You should give Youi a call. They commonly increase their automatic renewal premiums by 30%+ but if you call them they will 'generously' drop it again to the same as last year. Don't get me wrong, I've been with Youi for years and they have been excellent, but it's a little frustrating I need to call them year after year with each of my policies to get back to the lowest premium.

        • +4

I'm not a YOUI fan, they literally spammed the shit outta me after I requested a quote…I actually had to speak to a manager to get the staff to stop calling & emailing me trying to elicit my business, despite not even being able to match Budget Direct's price.

Much like mskeggs, my quote here was ~$70 below Budget Direct (the next cheapest by a country mile)…before the $100 gift card! Big win for me here, many thanks to the OP! :)

        • +2

Yep I have had the same experience with youi and i think it's really dodgey but I think other insurers do it too. I am with youi for my home insurance they are are by far the cheaper (after lots of initial negotiating) but I tried to get my car insured with them and they couldn't come close to AAMI and told me it was because I owned a commodore… I guess I deserve it, who would own a commodore?

      • Yeah true, I guess I was expecting them to be more competitive, especially with a 20% discount.

    • I had the same experience, Coleworths car insurance both worked out heaps more expensive than AAMI for me but Youi's home contents insurance much cheaper than anyone else I quoted.

    • Crazy.

I had my AAMI renewal last month and switched to these guys. Went from $660/year with AAMI to $470 + $100 voucher with these guys.

  • Where do u pop in the code?

    • +1

enter your everyday rewards number and the box will pop up

  • +3

If you consider the gift card as a $100 discount, then they work out to be cheaper.

Otherwise, without the 20% off, heavy policy modification (extra excess/agreed value) and the gift card, it's bloody expensive.

Pro Tip, fiddle with the Agreed value. The difference between insuring my vehicle for $9k and $10 was a 1c difference.

  • then call NRMA and you will get another 10% off…

    • +1

And then Coles who will beat ANY insurer.
      Then call WW again !!

      • +3

Hate to disillusion you but Coles won't beat all others despite the claim. In some cases they simply won't insure you (eg older vehicles).

  • anyone know how they are with regards to claim? easy/hard ?

    • Claimed a write off case last year and they paid me quickly but they wrongly paid the towing company instead of the mechanic who paid the towing bill on my behalf. Had to ring them couple of times to clear up the matter.

  • +4

Just be aware that Hallard (who you will be insuring with) has some quite negative feedback from people who have had to claim - long waits for response for example. Okay if you have a very low expectation of needing to claim. I have an older 4WD so I'm looking for very basic 'peace of mind' insurance but if you have a reasonably new or expensive vehicle I'd be looking elsewhere.

$374 seems awfully expensive for 3PP but at least with this mob you get an option for fire and theft/md thrown in should you want it. With Coles (more expensive for me anyway) you don't iirc.

The 20% off code worked for me. I had an earlier quote for $222, this time it's $186 for "make your own TPP". With the $100 card that's cheap even if slightly "dodgy".

Thanks OP, and safe travels everyone!!!!

One other thing - reducing the excess to $500 on the slider bar made NO difference to the premium for me. Try it, you might be lucky.

    • How do you get "peace of mind" when at the same time you are alerting folks of potential problems when it comes time to claim?

      • As I said I don't expect to use it but it's a cheap option if the 'fit should hit the shan'. If I hit somebody their insurance will have the pleasure of dealing with Hallard, the other way around and I don't have much to lose $$wise. Besides, I'm not a guy who gives in easily.

  • On the 100$ WISH CARD.. † This is a savings on first year of insurance only and valid for new (not renewal) Woolworths Car Insurance policies bought online which receive up to a 5% discount off the premium. Minimum premium applies. DOES ANYONE KNOW WHAT THIS MINUMUM IS? the policy I've been quote is $396 would I qualify? AND if you apply the 20% code, are you still qualified for the !00$ gift card?

    • +1

No, but I can confirm that last year I got the $50 card for 3PP insurance costing less than that. Just looked it up - $217.

      • Just looked it up - $217

So it's better for you, Pussumbly, to not claim the 20% coupon since it takes you from $222 to $186 but you miss out on the $100 gift card?

        • +1

No I cancelled their renewal two weeks ago (quoted $250 odd, last year was $217 with a $50 fuel card bonus), and with the insurance expired I've just taken out a new policy. If they cross check they might find I was a previous customer and play hardball on the card (unlikely I think). Irrespective, the OPs code has saved me 25% on their renewal price.

  • Have had Coles comprehensive on a family car for 2 years and they have been good. Had a claim through them and it was painless.
Gonna get a quote from WW today. Renewal due tomorrow. So just in time. Thanks OP.

Anyone know if you need to have a EDR card to get the discount and wish card ?

    • Anyone know if you need to have a EDR card to get the discount and wish card ?

      Yes to both.

  • add that you need an EDR to use the damn code. Still without the code it was $100/month without discount with all the terms compared to NRMA paying $80 a month currently

  • I think Kmart have good car insurace - through Westfarmers.

  • +5

I was just about to post this as a hack.

I spent $24 on my insurance with them. Took out a minimal annual policy and canceled after 1 month. Yesterday (~12 weeks later) they sent me a $75 wish card. $51 profit. tidy.

    • The only snag might be that the gift cards aren't posted out for 45-60 days…perhaps if you cancel at 30 days they might be savvy enough to start stopping gift cards…just a thought! ;)

      • +1

Yes, there are a few things to consider when doing this. Hence why I hadn't posted right away.

In the Ts and Cs they say they can charge you $30 odd for ending early (which they never do according to the rep i spoke to at the time). And you also want to actually need the insurance, not worth gambling $24 on this unless you have a use for it. In my case, I was selling my car and knew I wouldn't need the insurance for very long.

But some poeple might like to try this if they're shopping around for policies. Park it with WW insurance for a month and then move on, collect the gift card 12 weeks later.

      • PDS says you get a 14 day cooling off period during which you can cancel for a full refund. Thereafter you get a pro rata refund, possibly less an "administration fee" (the $30 ChickenTalon refers to I suppose). So you should come out ahead provided

        100 > 30B + (D/365)P

where B is a boolean representing whether they are bastards and charge the $30, P is the annual premium, and D is how many days it takes for the $100 wishcard to arrive.

        • mine only just arrived after waiting 70 days… after 3 phone calls and a threat to take it to ACCC

companies assume that customers are not privy to gift card promotions so they only send them out when prompted to do so…

        • @knackers: Bought insurance on the 5th of April (cancelled 24th April). Card arrived 15th July, so that's 101 days.

I didn't follow up with them. Had not got around to it. Maybe they pulled their finger out after others complained.

  • Does anyone know how long the promo code will last till?

  • +1

This is a good deal… however I hope the whole giftcard thing isn't a targeted offer for certain EDR cardholders?

  • Im a first time insurance purchaser. I am over 25. I took third party insurance with fire and theft. My premium was $289. I took the $120 gift card offer.

  • I got a quote yesterday for around $444 for comprehensive insurance. Today the same quote comes out at $750. Very strange.

  • So can anyone confirm whether we can get the up to 20% discount plus receive the $100 gift card? If that is the case, this can result in some big savings.

    • Confirmed.. you get both

  • Obviously it's subject to individual conditions, but WW & Coles insurances have always been a mile above what I've been paying (and that's for 2 different cars now).

On the current one (full comp), their max payout is $2.5k+ less than AAMI's agreed value (and defaults to almost half of what AAMI's offering), for a price over $250+ higher. With a discount & the voucher I'd be lucky to be SLIGHTLY in front.
Not worth it for peanuts when the "discount" finishes for your renewal & you have to re-jump through all the hoops to get a better offer again.

I always prefer insurers (& utility providers) who give a cheaper price rather than "X% discount for Y months", as they then just jack the prices back up & sting the unwary. On a negligible price difference, I'll side with the cheaper price/non-discount supplier for doing the better thing by customers.

    • +2

I always prefer insurers (& utility providers) who give a cheaper price rather than "X% discount for Y months", as they then just jack the prices back up & sting the unwary

But all insurers jack up the price on the renewal premiums. It's widespread in the insurance industry.

  • Came in $300 cheaper (after gift card) then my current insurer (comminsure) and half the price of AAMI. Now to read the PDS and find the catch(es).

    i hate insurance!

    • +1

      then don't get it

    • -1

      dat edit tho

    • why does the person get negged for not liking insurance?

insurance is a deadweight loss. this is why it is profitable for insurance companies.

Unless you are significantly less skilled than the average driver, or want to get in an "accident", insurance is anything but a bargain.

      • Because that wasn't his original comment. I wonder who negged me, why I'll never know.

      • Whilst I consider myself a decent driver the reality is that anyone can have a lapse of concentration or make a mistake where they are at fault and I would hate that mistake to be a BMW or mercedes that I can't afford to pay to repair or replace.

I have third party insurance not because it's a great deal but because I don't want to suffer financial hardship paying off someone else's expensive car. The way I work out insurance is that I insure anything I can't afford to replace:

        -Someone else's car
        -My house

But things I can afford to replace I don't insure:

-My own car / motorcycle (only worth $5,000)
-Home contents - while it would probably total quite a bit, I wouldn't feel compelled to go out and replace it right away

        • Depends on your situation - agree with your point about home contents insurance; unless you have kids. That becomes a game changer. Then you need most, if not all, the creature comforts you would've thought aren't really necessary…

  • My insurance is up tomorrow, they've given a good quote but I can't seem to see where the Undeclared young drivers excess is? It doesn't give me an amount in the PDS. Unless i'm probably blind. Can anyone see it anywhere?

And how much days a week is it considered to be regular driving?

  • +3

What I hate about these discount insurance companies is that they are cheap because they use cheap repairers.

I guess if you don't care about the quality of the repair, drive a shit box or need 3rd party insurance only, then these discount insurance companies are fine.

RACV, Shannons, Allianz etc. are much better when it comes time for claiming, including being able to choose your own repairer and not 'choose your own repairer if your repairer is cheaper than dodgy brothers panel beaters'.

    • I couldn't agree more JB1! I never take out a policy that doesn't have choice of repairer -it's just not worth the risk.

      • I also couldn't agree more. I insure against catastrophic loss, with a high excess and low premium on my old car.
So for me, the cheapest insurance that I am confident will pay out is best.
Paying more for a 'premium' insurer is one of the unconsidered traps of driving a nice, costly car.

  • My third party property is $115. With the Woolies $120 giftcard, I get it for free???!!!

    • Shh just keep quiet and sign up already!!

    • How do you get it for $115? What insurer?

    • Look at ChickenTalon's comment above - cancel after a month and make a bigger profit!

    • to get this offer, your minimum premium needs to be $180+

      • Did you get that from the horse's mouth Accessdenied? If so I'll qualify by $6. lol. Anyway good deal for me so thanks again.

    • +4
WHAT ARE YOU SCAMPS WHISPERING ABOUT?

sorry. caps lock must have slipped lol :)

  • +1

    Progressive is cheaper for me.

    • I'm currently with Progressive and paying $ 354 for comprehensive insurance on my 2002 Echo. In the meatime, WW quoted $ 474 for comprehensive cover for the same car. That's after I applied the 20% discount. Even with the $ 100 Gift Card, I wouldn't be better off.

  • +2

You can purchase 66 belts with the savings!

  • Coles cheaper fr me

  • $700 including windscreen cover, not too bad, but I feel there will be some better deals out there by the time to renew the rego.

  • Comes up with quite high premium ..probably because Coles one only ask 3 years claim history yet this one run for 5 years.

  • +2

heres a tip for those without an everyday rewards… grab an everyday rewards pamphlet the next time you're in woollies… at the back is the 10 digit number, u can use this number without applying

    • Great tip, I've always done the same thing when woolies decides to be selfish and only gives a discounts on bread to EDR members

  • +2

Just tried Coles, WW and AAMI for a family car (mostly driven by female)
    Quotes were:

    WW: $980
    Coles: $750
    AAMI: $510

Apparently AAMI apply a $100 discount just for going via the website.
No points for guessing who I went with !

    • We were happy with AAMI for house and car until they upped their premiums this year. Had one write off (drunk driver in another car) which they dealt with efficiently. Perhaps they're responding at last to the drop off in renewals (4 in our family group alone)?

      • Insurers generally always charge MORE for renewals than a new customer.
So unless you can threaten to leave/convince them somehow to lower the renewal, go to a different insurer. And then the following year, return to your original one who will definately charge less to have you back on their books.
This loyalty to big companies is all bullkr@p.

        • +1

Yep, which is why I shop around when premiums increase significantly year to year. I always give them a chance to lower their price or match (near enough) before I leave, so far with zero success.

  • Beware… after you give woolworths all your details right at the end they ask these 3 questions:

Before you proceed with your quote please confirm the following statements:
In the last 5 years, have you or any other named insured person been declared
bankrupt or entered into a Part 9 debt agreement whether voluntary or not, or
had any other credit default judgement registered against them?

In the last 10 years, have you or any drivers of this car had a criminal, drink
    or drug driving conviction?

In the last 5 years, have you or any drivers of this car had a licence cancellation
    or suspension?

If you click yes to any it automatically pops up and says they can't insure you. These should be the first questions they ask, woolworths aren't the only ones to do this.. very annoying.

  • For third party I was quoted $330 a year - currently paying $240 a year with AAMI

    • less your $100 voucher. you save $10 :D

      • $100 wishcard worth less than $100 real money on OZB, we can get at least 5% off using our ING card or ENT book, or wait for a $125 spending and $25 credit back in Masters promotion from AMEX, which is essentially 20% off. So the savings could be $5 to $-15 in this case, if both "third party" provide identical protection.

  • Ww and Coles are going to be dearer than AAmi if ur under 30 and perhaps even under 40. I think they suit older drivers. I signed my dad up for comp insurance. Cost $396. 210 less than Coles AAmi and RACV was double. I did limit the kms travel to get cheaper price but that cos he only drives local

  • No deal for me.. More than twice the price of coles insurance with a higher excess and no protected no claims bonus..

    • don't think no claim bonus is worth much these days.. my dad had a claim and didn't realy make much difference to the premium, mb 50$ more which would been the extra amount to protect it
