i'm not entirely sure about "better" because from what I read on the website, these are ANZ's own reward program points. I don't know what the transfer rate is but I typically value bank rewards points at HALF the value of QFF or VA points, ie you're only getting 25k points here IMHO. This of course makes no difference if you are in the habit of cashing out for gift cards and other purchases.

    Still a good deal

    • Thanks peter05 - note the superior earning rates on the ANZ Rewards Platinum/Black cards (updated in deal above).

  • +2

~$370 worth of Myer gift cards!

    • +6

That's only for 50,000 FF points. FF points and ANZ Reward points aren't the same.

      • +3

OK, $250 then. Lots of other gift card options too.

      • Thanks ronnknee - and note that the earning rates are not the same either (updated in deal details above).

  • +2

What do 50,000 ANZ Reward points get you?

    • +1

      nearly $250 cash back!

      • 10310 = $50 cash!

      • +1

That's okay. I'm not sure if I should open another CC this month for this…

        • +1

          Wise decision.

Too many applications for credit in a short period doesn't look healthy on your credit reports.

        • +1

I wonder if this is still the case with the changes to positive credit reporting earlier this year. With the increased level of information on your credit report such as when you pay on time I think card issuers will probably rely less on that kind of info.

      • -1

And how pays for this $250? Not ANZ, its the existing customers slugged with 19% rates that are paying for all the newbies at 0% or the extra rewards.

The govt should change the law to disallow introductory rates that all customers cannot get.

Its a drug dealers rateas dude, first hit free, then you pay man!

Why is the drug dealers model allowed?

So many business practices that are just another model, are 100% purely against some law in the USA.

        • +5

If you find taking advantage of promotions (invariably funded by existing customer base) offensive, Ozbargain may not be the place for you dude. Just saying….

        • Interest rates of existing customer base and the fees charged to merchants and negotiations with merchants subsidise the rewards programs.

        • +2

No ones forcing any customer to pay 19% interest, if you're paying interest on a credit card you have only yourself to blame. Everyone on ozbagain is simply capitalising on the stupidity of others.

  • +3

The airline program rewards set out in anzrewards.com appear to exclude Qantas and, as examples of the conversion rate, 6000 rewards points earns 2000 FF points on Singapore Airlines Kris Flyer, 2250 rewards points earns 1000 FF points on Virgin Velocity. So WORSE than 50% conversion rate. No deal……:-)

    • +2

Stick to the gift cards :-)

  • If I have applied for the qantas rewards card the other day, could I still apply for this and get the bonus points also? Thanks

    • you can definitely apply :) but possibility of application being rejected is high (if previous one is already approved). good luck !

  • +2

If you are planning to cash out for myer gift cards (or some other monetary equivalent), then you are still better off going with the qantas card.

points myer each point is worth

    ANZ Rewards 19980 $100 $0.005005005
    Qantas 15100 $100 $0.006622517

    • +5

Little girl: why not have both?
      Everyone: applause!

    • +2

You get 3 ANZ Retard Points for the Awards card and 1.5 QFF with the FF card.
      How is FF better?

      • +4

"You get 3 ANZ Retard Points"

        Hmmmm…..

      • +1

Thanks - exactly! Superior earning rates have been updated into deal above :)

      • +1

        Rewarded autocorrect…

      • +1

        50000 ANZ points = $250 gift cards
        50000 QFF points = $331 gift cards
If your goal is to cash in the bonus points and get the hell out then Qantas card is better.

        • +2

Unless you don't want to have to spend $1500.

        • @JohnHowardsEyebrows:
It's a spend you'd already make, in your everyday life.

Not like you have to spend it with one company you'd never normally use.

        • +1

          @Utopian: Depends on how many cards you've got… ;)

  • +1

Now to go haggle myself ,60" plasma for $250

  • +5

Maybe a Sorny or even Palaphonic

    • +1

I was thinking more along the lines of a samsonq

    • +2

Pfft. I know a genuine Panaphonics when I see it!

    • +2

      Don't forget Toyoda

  • +1

3 points to the dollar with Amex and 1.5 with visa. Get those gift cards quicker than the ff card

    • +1

ANZ Black rewards gets you 2pts from Visa!

      • +2

just recently moved from ANZ Platinum to Black and were notified by ANZ - ONLINE STATEMENTS are not available at this stage with no ETA. its 2014 and a $375/year product does not have online statements?…..

        • +1

i rang ANZ, no free upgrade from platinum to black with their home loan package. not happy .
They upgraded me from gold to platinum for free years ago

      • Thanks for pointing this out, chubbyguts and radem12. I have updated the deal to highlight the "Superior earning rates" :)

  • +3

Can these points be used to book Air Koryo flights?

  • +1

Best value is $240 worth of Westfield gift cards.
    $250 requires 52000 points.

Edit: Possible to get $250 with other store gift cards.

    • +3

Westfield is the best option as you can then purchase more giftcards from Woolworths (eg. Wish cards for petrol)

    • Under 50,000 points for $250 of Myer gift cards

      • +1

…so you can buy $100 real-worth of items that have been ticketed $500 but discounted 50%.

Death to dept stores in Australia!

        • +1

Now now, lots of Australians work at our department stores.
          Don't forget to price-match!

  • is there any cost involved to cancel within 1st year after getting points?

    • This is what I'm wondering about as well—will appreciate if someone can answer.

      • I could not find any cancellation fee. Have signed up. will make $1500 of purchases. Get points then cancell the card.

        • +2

Err you jsut need to make a eligible purchase? not $1500??

        • @Pandabargain: he wants to make $1500 purchases anyway

        • +2

@lolmao: I will charge him $1500 ozbargain tax

    • +2

No cost, but generally have to keep the card for about 3 months which is about the time it will take to get the points.

PS. I wouldn't apply for too many cards in a short period of time as this will negatively impact your credit report.

      • How does having too many cards in a short period affect your credit report?

If I open this Anz and close it once i have the gift cards, will it affect my credit?

  • How come it didn't prompt me to enter the frequent flyer number????

    • +2

Because this card doesn't earn you FF points.

  • For Myer gift cards as an example, this is better than the FF card.
Only using Amex, this card will require a (19980 points) $6660 spend for a $100 gift card. TThe FF card will require a (13500 points) $9000 spend for a $100 gift card.
Only Visa, this card would require a $9990 spend where the FF card would require an $18000 spend.
But the FF 50000 points in the promotion is worth more than the 50000 points on offer here. Plus the FF card has 2 Qantas business lounge access passes……

  • I applied fo the FF Black card and have been approved - Get 50,000 QFF points (after Spend $1500).
You think if i apply for Rewards Black will get the 50,000 rewards points also??
Or is it only for new customers??

  • sorry guys can i just reconfirm the t&c, so we just need to make 1 purchase and it will trigger this 50k bonus points?

    • +1

One eligible purchase, so excludes cash advances. Just paywave something or buy your fuel for the week

      • +1

        purchasing groupon?

        • +1

I intend to purchase my shopping on the card just to be safe

  • referred yesterday. now waiting.

  • Applied for this to see if I get approved again (I got approved for the black card 50000 QFF points with a limit of $23000).

This time I got approved for the standard card with $15000 limit !!

Another 50000 standard points . Im happy with that

  • Approved for both too! Awesome!

    • If I get points in time, im planning to cancel card and repeat

      • You will get the point within 3 months.

Just pay 1 bill using this card and you will be fine.

Pump the rest of the spending towards the Qantas FF Card.

  • You could always literally just buy a bunch of bananas for <$2 and this would be an eligible purchase with this card right?

  • Hi guys,

Does anyone know if it’s OK to overload the card (e.g. my credit limit is $1000 and I decide to put $2000 on the card to be in the green by $1k) and then use the card for purchases, will I attract the points still?

Or do I need to be going into debt to achieve the points?

    Regards,
    B

  • +1

It's been 1 month since I applied and used the card. I've got the 50,000 points and I've got the 50,000 FF points too!

  • dumb question, but is there any reason why someone would use the visa portion of this card at 1.5 points per $1? The AMEX gives 2 points per $1 spend therefore, would I ever need to use the VISA?

    • +2

because some merchants don't accept AMEX, or charge a high surcharge for using AMEX.

  • +1

any idea how long it takes for the 50k to show up after the first transfer? I already have points for my first purchase in my account….. not the 50k

  • +2

Did you all get your points?

Also did you have any hassles in claiming both this deal and the Qantas FF Card deal?

    • i just got the FF card 50k points and thinking of signing up for this one too…

  • +2

I went for the Quantas Frequent Flyer card (already received the 50K points) and a few weeks later for the regular ANZ Rewards card. I have not received the points for the rewards card yet. First purchase was 3 weeks ago and my first statement came already through.

Has anybody received the points for both offers?

    • +1

In the same boat as you, received statement, made purchases(s) and similar time frame (3 weeks) - still no 50k rewards showing up.

    • Same with me. Im still waiting for my points for the rewards black card.

      • T AND C state "points credited within 4 months" - assume this is done so there are no 'hit n runs' on the accounts and they hope people get into CC debt within this timeframe

  • Thanks got the ANZ Black FF Card. Approved this morning. Joined up to QFF as well.

Hrmmm wonder if I can apply for more cards. Should there be a waiting period before I try again?

  • Are there any consequences if you apply for

    • ANZ Rewards Platinum (already approved and received)
    • ANZ QFF (already approved and received)
    • ANZ Black Rewards
    • ANZ Rewards

I just applied for ANZ Black Rewards and I would want to apply for ANZ Rewards.

In total it would be 150,000 ANZ points and 50,000 QFF points

    • Well, I just saw the email that I have been approved for ANZ Black Rewards.

    • I think it'll do some damage to your credit score.

      • Any sources for that?

        • Thanks.

Do you refer to that part?
"When you apply for credit or a service, the relevant credit provider may check your credit report, leaving an enquiry on your report. Credit enquiries affect your credit score. A relatively high number of enquiries within a short period of time could adversely affect your ability to get credit. As an Access Seeker, GetCreditScore acts on your behalf through a Soft Touch credit enquiry, with no negative impact on your credit report or your credit score."

The question is now, what is a relatively high number? Is 3 or 4 a high number? 2 digits?

        • @liquid metal:
One way to find out is simply look up your credit score. It's free.

        • should be alright

  • what do you think is better?

    the cash out $250 OR….

    22 * 2250 (virgin velocity points) ? 22,000 points?

    N.B.
to get another 1000 virgin points (2250 reward points) you need to spend an additional $875 before the 12 months is up. easily do-able with groceries on amex (and fuel)….

to get 20,000 points you need to pay $149 for the platinum virgin credit card with a >$500 spend… so im saving $149 + $500 already

    • Cash

      • ohhh there is a cashback offer… sweet. to make the full use of $250 cash back i need to spend $780 on the amex @ 2 points (to redeem those last 9-10000 points)

        • What about using the points on WISH gift cards ($250), then getting a prepaid Mastercard ($3.95 admin fee) - does this work? Or do you need to buy prepaid credit cards with cash only?

  • Got approved. Wad only expecting a 3k limit. But they gave me 10k lol…..

  • I'm going to buy the iphone 6 on the amex card to push me into that extra $50 cashback for $250 cash back or 23,000 velocity points… good timing for the card to arrive ;)
