  • was about to buy the spot but delivery is $40 ….. WTF !

    • maybe try a work address or friend or family? I just tested it and got $5.52 using fast way couriers

  • I use (2x) BD Storm head lamps as my backup lights when I go caving/spelunking. I use a CREE "1200LM" light as my primary.

You can't go wrong with the BD Storm. It's great on batteries and has lots of features.

Worth noting that this appears to be the "old" model. With a max output of 100 lumens. There was a new version that just came out at the start of 2014. More info here: http://www.candlepowerforums.com/vb/showthread.php?378835-Ne…

    • Do you know of a bright headlamp with just an on/off switch, no flashing colours etc?

      • Nope.

      • Depends what you consider bright. I have a couple Led Lenser H7 which are fine for finding my way around the bush. 3x AAA makes them good size and not too heavy. Adjustable focus and dimmable

  • Wirecutter review is of the 130 lumen Spot; Ray's is selling the older model.

    • Yep you are right.. I am gonna take that out so it doesn't mislead anyone. thanks

  • I have a storm, among a few other headlamps, that I use when beach fishing and camping. It's a good headlamp but slightly heavier than the similar petzl one I have. Maybe the black diamond is more waterproof but it hasn't been in too much water/rain to try it.
    Very bright.
I think I got it cheaper than this from cotd though.

  • I have 2 Spots. They're great because of the thought that went into the interface. E.g. when you put the lamp in red light mode, then later turn it off, when you turn it back on it's still in red light mode, this is good. Other lamps have to cycle through white before going back to red which will ruin your eye's night sensitivity. This is the kind of good design that went into these lamps, and reason enough to buy it.

As for brightness, it's fine. I've taken it on many overnight walks in wilderness and in caves, I completely trust it. It's also quite light weight.

Edit: I would've bought the Storm if they were cheaper (like they are in this deal) for the added waterproofness
