        • +1

          Lol crack up

  • Lagging so bad, cannot go to my cart!

  • looking at all these 2013 Air deals makes me think that the ebay group buy deal the other day for the 2014 version was an excellent buy.

  • +2

I feel a new model is just around the corner

    • +5

You mean the one that's already been revealed? http://www.stuff.tv/apple-macbook-air-13in-2014/review

Seriously though, I bought my Air about 3 months ago for about $300 more than this and I ain't even mad. Honestly the best laptop that I have owned and well worth the money. For those tossing up between the 2014 model and 2013, it sounds like the 2014 is a VERY slight upgrade, so the 2013 is probably much better value.

      • -1

there are rumours that a retina display macbook air may be coming out

        • +6

Not until next CPU rehash which will be early 2015

    • 2014 model is already out. They are also 15% off at Dicksmith today.

      • -3

the ssd is a slower one, not good for film or photo editing

        • +3

If you're doing film/photo editing then you the SSD read/write isn't going to be your throttling factor - the processor is only 1.3GHz - you want to find something with a higher clocking speed.

        • +1

If you plan on doing anything serious like that, don't get a MacBook Air. Paying more for a MacBook Pro is worth it.

  • ozbargained you say?

  • +1

2013 Macbook Air is better than the current one, hard drive is much faster. this is an excellent buy.

  • +1

The 11 inch model is also running for dirt cheap ($764)

    http://www.dicksmith.com.au/apple-computers/apple-macbook-ai…

  • Geez if only I am after a Mac Air - could get Apple to price-match and use AMEX promo to get another $50 back

    • I'm not sure if Apple generally price matches?

      • they do, but only up to 10% generally- you might get lucky though

  • -1

Cheap as chips! I bought my 2013 Air last week for $900 and this is even cheaper.
2014 model is only 5% quicker over 2013.
Im not too fuss about retina screen as I am already running 1920x1200 on my 13" using SwitchResX.

    • Wait what, how can you just change your resolution?

      • -3

He just said…. With switchresx. Google it.

        • +5

Yes I have Googled it… seems like a fix since MTL when they changed the ease of access to change possible resolutions. The resolution on a screen is a hardware property, I can't just change it into QHD+ with a program.

The only other possibility I can think of is dodgy scaling or using an external monitor with Thunderbolt

      • You can scale a MacBook Air to 1080p by mirroring the display to an Apple TV3.
Neat little hack when you need a little more space on your desktop.

        http://i.imgur.com/rZCZKBz.png

        • Why not just use a minidisplayport to hdmi adapter?

        • Usage case is where wanting additional desktop space on local MacBook Air display while an unused Apple TV3 is available. That, and not wanting to waste calories in getting up to plug things in. Software such as SwitchResX may produce similar results without an Apple TV. But if you have the hardware (ATV3), you don't need the software :-)

    • +3

      What, you overclocked your resolution!!

Resolution is a hardware spec thing, scaling with a software program does not give you greater resolution, if it did, I'd turn all of my tv's into 4K screens

      • +1

Is this on the actual macbook air screen or an external monitor?

        • Macbook Air 13"

      • +2

You are just making the ui smaller hence there will be distortions on the text. There is no way to increase the maximum resolution, as other people said it is a hardware thing. That numbers(1440x900) are the pixels on your screen, you can't just increase the physical pixels by software.

        • That makes sense …

  • +1 for the Fitbit Flex.

Cheap for Macbook Airs if you need one now. Otherwise wait for the next model. That's when I'll upgrade.

  • +9

    Wi-Fi No

Dick Smith, you crack me up!

  • hmmmm tempting! wish there was a 10 or 12% code to bring it down a little more!

    • +1

      i got 2 x $250 gift cards for the 12% off trick from a couple weeks ago so i could save another $60 + TRS @ 849 is $77.
      Summary 849 - 60 - 77 = $712. But i have no real need for one. hmm should i get a macbook pro instead?

  • +1

    Weee finally got a Macbook!

  • +2

I cannot see huge difference between 2013 mac air and most up-to-date model.
At this price, it is indeed cheap.

    • yes ! went shopping today, quite a good deal !

  • +6

Didnt get the Myer Macbook, was sad, then got one from Dicksmith yesterday for $900 and then this happens!!! AHHHHHHHHHH DICKSMITH WHY YOU DO THIS TO ME

  • Awesome. ..ordered one for wifey…+ vote!

  • +2

Pretty good deal. A lot of people trash talk about macbooks but at this price and build quality, I don't see many ultrabooks that can compare.

  • Ordered one just now! :D Price is insane for the 13 and the 11.6 is only 764!!!!!

  • Placed a order, but the statue says Awaiting Fulfillment. what is that mean?

  • No HDMI & Specs hardly say yes for any options!!!what it says No to WIFI too haha

  • Order cancelled?!

    • Just ordered again. Hope this isn't a theme.

    • Mine got cancelled conveniently 20 mins after their call centre closed. No explanation at all and I could see there was a pending charge on my credit card. Out of stock now too…..

      • Well it all worked out in the end! I spent 1 hour and 10 mins on the phone with their useless call centre to be told I was getting transferred to a supervisor then was just hung up on. Tried calling back but gave up after 30 mins on hold

Took a punt by calling my local store and they honoured the price and I walked out with the last one :)

  • This is a ridiculously attractive price; will the 4gb be an issue causing laggy video playback, sluggish performance etc? Currently running on an XPS15 with an i7-740Qm and 6gb.

    • +2

RAM is largely used for multi-tasking, and there are often misconceptions that you need 8+ Gigs of the stuff to run smoothly. Honestly for anything along the lines of web browsing, video playback, pretty much everything you could do on a small laptop will be fine with 2GB, let along 4.

      • what's the root problems for laptop and computer slow downs when running stuff then? Just windows needing to be re-installed/hard drive limitations? if RAM isn't the issue.

        • SSDs help, usually its background programs running that slow it down

        • Which is why I thought RAM helped, since it improves multi-tasking. Unless I was mistaken.

  • Thanks. Bought one. I've had enough of this ultrabook I'm using right now with only a mere 3 hour battery life.

  • +2

finally. bought a mac air $849 and claim tax at airport. best price ever seen. :o

    • -1

How much did u get from claim tax????

      • You get 10% back

        • So we pay 766 for mac.that's insane

        • +1

Wrong! You get 1/11 of invoice price back not 10%.

        • Still, its about 770 right? Thats still a crazy deal for mac

        • -1

          typical clarky can't do math

        • -2

You get back the GST, so yeah its not exactly 10% but close enough. GST on $100 is $10, so $110 total. You then get back $10, - 'The GST refund is calculated by dividing the GST inclusive price by 11'.

        • -1

          yeah but "you get 10% back" imply you will get $11 back. 110 x 10% = $11.

Should have stated "you get 10% of the original price back" ;)

        • 10% off the original price, which is GST ex. Original price is a non GST price. If you want to get picky you would say 9.09 percent back off the total cost price, or GST Inc., how much does a $4.02 thing cost? $4.

        • A bat and ball cost $1.10 together.
The bat costs $1.00 more than the ball.
How much does the ball cost?

        • $3,000,000?

        • wrong again. $2.999.991

      • 9% back

        • How do I make claim tax at airport? Never done it before.

        • you just go to TRS(Tourist Refund Scheme ) after go through the security gate with the item and invoice .then show them and give them your card . they ll give you back the gst . my mac air $849/11 = tax , but it may take 1hour 30mins for line up :(

  • +1

    Hey guys,

It says temporarily out of stock, but call up your local and ask.

Getting one right now for the online sale price.

  • +2

I would like one, but I don't need one, yet ozbargain my religion is forcing me to buy one.

  • Bought one - thanks.

  • So why does the link say with Toshiba 500GB portable?

  • $127 more and you get 256GB SSD, same page.

  • Bummer! I bought one 2 days ago at Dicks for $933. I never thought it would go down even further… It is a shame they can't price match their own price within 7 days…

  • +1

Whhyyyyy? I bought the one from Myer $934. Haven't opened it yet. So tempted to buy this and return the one from Myer. But I don't want to get stuck with two if they play hardball. What should I do???? The difference is $85. Argh!

    • It's not letting me order it for delivery or click and collect. I think it's sold out even though it says in stock.

    • I brought Macbook Air 13' from Myer for $934 as well. The credit card I used to purchase this little machine has a feature called "Purchase price guarantee". It refunds me the difference (min $75 claim) if i find a cheaper printed purchase price within 21 days of the original purchase.

I will try to claim the difference back (AUD$85.00) …

      • Which credit card? Usually price protection only works if the sale is in the same store you bought it from.

  • +2

This may convert me to Apple-been with Windows 20 years

    • Ditto, just ordered one! Here's hoping they follow through.

  • Seems No longer in stock.

  • -1

God dammit Dick! I just bought my 11" 256 gb for 1024 from Myer T-T. Coulda gotten the 13" even cheaper at DSE!!!

  • If I did not buy this sony vaio 11" from here - I would convert to mac … https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/148881?page=1#comment-2063…

  • Does staff discount work on the MacBook Air?

    • +1

Not if you work for Woolworths.

  • Mine says "awaiting fulfilment". It seems Dick Smith knows me too well.

  • i got 2 x $250 gift cards for the 12% off trick from a couple weeks ago so i could save another $60 + TRS @ 849 is $77.
    Summary 849 - 60 - 77 = $712. But i have no real need for one. hmm should i get a macbook pro instead?

  • Sold out now.

  • Yeh just when i decided to buy one!
    ARGHHH Why Dick? Why OzB?
