The Story (speculation on my behalf)

One could assume that there is a story behind this as I have seen this on eBay in other countries recently and my assumption is that it’s an effort to drive top line sales and bring the stock price back up due to eBay's challenges in 2014:

Ebay’s stock price was recently at a 52 week low at US$48.06 and has been on a consistent decline since 2014. There are several factors that have influenced this (not in order of impact):

  1. The recent security issue/alerts;
  2. Departure of some key executives;
  3. The infighting with investor Carl Icahn;
  4. Alibaba IPO around the corner with Alibaba posing a real threat to Ebay;
  5. Amazon consistent strength and expansion (they’ll be here next year!);
(perhaps 4&5 should have Australian retail worried too!)
  6. Google Search algorithm changes resulting in lower rankings for ebay listings;
  7. Shut down of eBay Now - same day service;
  8. Some other undisclosed events (speculation).

Either way, I’m happy to support them this weekend and I’ll be buying up on Sunday !!!

The Instructions

  1. Proceed to Ebay Checkout Page: Checkout: Review order
  2. Enter coupon code in redemption code box (bottom right) and press apply
  3. Press Continue and pay with paypal
  4. Verify in the paypal screen/system that the discount was applied before you complete your order.

Hint: If you are buying multiple items then make sure the currencies of the items are the same because you will only get one shot at this coupon.

Please let us know what you are going to buy and share your bargains below please.

Start adding product(s) to your watchlists today and enjoy!

Will the professionals crash the site?

If you do the math then this is a potential $6 000 000 spend from eBay!

  • This deal looks like becoming the second +1000 voted deal :D

    A few Q's
-Does the $%) minimum spend amount include postage?
-Is the 15% discount counted on the final amount including or excluding postage?

    • +2

I am guessing discount applies to the postage as well because FeeBay now takes a commission on postage (basically everything).

15% off on FeeBay isn't as good as it looks. FeeBay takes 10% commission and PayPal take a cut. You would expect most sellers already factor those fees into the final price. Well, better than nothing I guess.

      • +1

        "FeeBay". Best. Description. Ever.

  • >

  • +3

Don't actually know if I will use it but it's a good deal nontheless. Just wanna see this thing get up to 1000 +VE votes :p

  • So, if we don't get a code in our email, we won't get the discount?

  • Might be time to finally buy a Gopro

  • +1

    Wow so many comments!

  • Would you guys presume that the 10am start time is eastern states time?

    • +1

I believe when you see the actual add on eBay it shows up at 10.00 AEST.

  • Anyone know whats the best eBay cashback option? Velocity or that 2% offer etc

    • +2

It's 4 points per dollar, so if you spent $600 for example, that nets you 2400 points. A one-way flight between Sydney to Melbourne costs around $99 or 9900 points, so that means one point is valued at 1c but ONLY IF YOU INTEND TO FLY (and make up the points difference).

2% cashback means 2c back in every dollar.

The math is pretty clear on which is the better deal, I think.

      • +1

And it's no longer 4 points per dollar. That promo ended last day of May from memory. It is now 2 points per dollar.

someone above did mention that it may not be possible to combine the cashback with the coupon code though.

  • Do coles or woolies have an official ebay store that sell gift cards?

    • +13

Are you serious? I can't believe the questions people ask.

Yes. They wake up in the morning to setup a store selling Gift Cards dollar for dollar value, with the disadvantage of 3% PayPal fee's, 6.5% eBay Fee's, Feedback, postage, and disputes. When they have thousands of REAL stores.

      Honestly, its common sense….

      • +4

Not such an odd question mate. Other companies do it. Lol, im not asking if they're specifically set up to sell gift cards. Just asking of they have an ebay store like dickies etc that happen to include gift cards. Have bought TGG and dickies before

        • +1

Dick Smith did at one stage and they were at a discount- $110 for $100.

      • +3

Are you serious? I can't believe the sarcastic arrogant answers people provide.

Did you know that Dick Smith did gift vouchers? Yes. They lose out 10% on selling a gift card at dollar for dollar value for you to come into a physical store to use it whilst they make 20%, 30%, 40% etc on your purchases, and while you are there, hopefully cross sell you something else or hope that you spend above your gift card value.

        Honestly, it's common sense.

Losing 10% in fees, compared to say giving 20% off as per current eBay promotion AND copping the eBay fees for that promotion. Break it down for me, sunshine.

      • While I agree, don't forget that they make money on every gift card that isn't ever used. Furthermore, if the increase in turnover causes a greater increase in profits then it's still worth it.

  • +2

    And we have 1000+!

  • think i'll make it an even 1000 :)

edit: damn, you messed up my nice round number.

  • $200 prepaid visa looks good

Looks like I'm getting another lego set… Hello Sea Cow!

  • Is there a way to transfer a $200 eftpos/visa prepaid card to your bank account / cash? There must be some 3rd party site that will drain your card and transfer the funds to your account at a fee. Can't find any sites that are compatible with Australia though.

    • +2

2 tanks of petrol would do it for me!

      • +1

I'm a uni student so don't really have any huge expenses. I'm planning on buying $700 worth as mentioned by other users. So if there was some way to transfer to my account for some quick money would be ideal.

    • Paymate?

      • How does that one work?

    • +2

paypal allows you to send money from a credit card as a gift, 2.7% fees.

then you can withdraw to bank account for free.

      • Thanks. I wasn't 100% sure whether Paypal would accept the card. Would they also accept the Eftpos card too?

        • not unless there is a bsb and account number associated with it (and you can view the transaction statement).

should be able to withdraw cash from eftpos anywhere though?

        • Paypal does accept prepaid visa gift cards.

    • supermarket cashout? or ATMs but you'll get charged a fee…

    • Visa prepaid gift cards are electronic use only can't be used at an ATM or EFTPOS cash out. Although that Paypal to Paypal personal transfer will work if you have two Paypal accounts. You'll incur a credit card fee through Paypal doing it that way.

      • And a PayPal fee.

Weird Al needs to write a piece on Aliexpress.

      whatever will please ya
As long as ive got…the Doughhhh!"

  • Another thought for investors and savvy buyers (not that OzBargainers need much help): maybe buy bullion? Gold, silver, etc. I don't think there's any other time when you'll get such a big discount on buying real, actual money.

    • +1

Why would you trust an ebay seller to buy precious metals? Unless they are collector coins.

      • shrug the same reason would you trust an eBay seller to buy anything at all? You just have to do the same due diligence as you would any other goods. There are certainly some stamp and coin dealers who also deal in bullion on eBay.

    • was thinking of getting some silver bullion. A Kilo of bullion would usually set you back around $750 so with the $100 discount you will get it below current spot price.

  • -5

Those with the 25% off coupons, please PM me with the coupon code if you are not planning to use them.

    • I would appreciate one as well thanks.

    • Would be ever so grateful if someone could also provide me with a spare 25% discount.

    • me too? i would definitely appreciate it. thanks in advance :)

      • -1

Lol at the chain of -1 votes

        • NB: I'm not asking for one, but are there actually 25% off coupons in existence? Just curious. Too many pages for me to catch up on and read lol.

edit - nevermind! I went back and read the relevant posts. Lucky lucky ducks. So envious lol.

    • +2

The codes are probably ties to the account they were issued to.

    • I'd like a PS4 but you don't see me asking for one

  • HOW DO I KNOW IF I GOT IT ?

    • It will say, discount applied.

      • do i have to commit to buy something i wouldnt without knowing i got the offer ?

        • i think the coupon will be public

  • +1

I can't seem to get that banner on by ebay.com.au homepage…

    • +5

There are probably a bunch of eBay staff who are watching the storm brewing on OzB and shitting their pants right now.

  • -2

Don't know if its only me but the last few winning auctions on Ebay for me turned out to be "sorry I have sold it elsewhere" by the seller.

    • Sounds dodgy. Are there any repercussions for a seller doing this when they don't get the price they want?

  • -5

Can't think of anything to buy.

Haven't sold anything or bought anything for over a year. eBAy sucks

  • Awesome, thanks!

  • I am going to get some toner for the laser printer!

    • $666 worth of toner?

      • +1

That can get you like…one cartridge

  • thanks op! not going to miss out this time

  • Make sure that you sell all gift vouchers you don't need as they may well be fetching a premium on Sunday.

  • +11

    Why is everyone voting positive?

This could be another big stuff up like some of the other controversial ozbargains in the past where everyone votes up and the deal doesn't even happen.

I'm saving my neg for Sunday when the **** hits the fan.

    • I wouldn't be too sure about that. Any other store offering a 15% off probably aren't aware that 10000 people from Ozbargain are ready to take over their store.
According to this post, Ebay have stated that their are 60000 coupons to give away so I don't see how anything could mess up? I don't see how they would fall under the pressure since all they have to do is simply process the 15% to the seller. It's not like they are going to run out of stock like a physical store or have issues with delivery. If anything, the only thing that could mess up is the seller being inundated with purchases.

    • Because negging this deal would cause great harm to eBay….?

    • Guess you were wrong, huh?

  • does anyone know if you can pay for the item you purchaced with bank transfer with this discount

    • T&Cs says you must use Paypal

  • dammit useless for me then

    • You can sign up/ use PayPal during checkout process just using your credit card so should work.

  • This must be ozbaagin a first thread to have over 1000posts! Even the last digit is glitchy!

    • Weren't you here for the first ever 1000+ vote where the 4th number couldn't fit so the counter reset itself lol.

    • +2

…and the deal is not even active yet.

    • +1

It is not the first thread to get 1000+

      This one is:

  • I can't find any woolworths gift cards and a search for prepaid visa turns up 0 results. Confused…

    • +1

It's not listed as 'prepaid' visa but as 'gift card' visa.

My item I'm selling ends that day.

Would a general thread on the Ozbargain eBay forum be a good place to list it?

  • -6

Would be very grateful if someone had a 25% they didn't need. My sons birthday is on Monday and I'm looking to pick up an Xbox one for him. Thanks.
