very good deal for the 16gb version

Great phone. Have one, myself. Was going to get a flagship phone on contract, ended up on Vaya with MotoG. Saved a lot of money.

My S2 tarnished (in a case, as well) almost instantly, in with my keys. Moto G still looks new after 3 months in my pocket without a case.

  • Bought one as a gift for a teenager a few months back. Really good phone for that price.
I find 4G to be useless, I live in Perth CBD and most often my phone reverts to H+, and when it does pick up 4G signal there is no noticeable difference in speed for internet browsing.

    • +1

Did you buy overseas? AFAIK the 4G model was released very recently. I agree it's a nice phone.

    • +6

You live in Perth, and yet you are surprised you can not get 4G?

      • +3

I'm surprised they have mobile phones!

        • +5

Don't be daft. Heaps of people there have mobile phones. The Motorola StarTAC is the most popular at the moment.

        • LMAO

        • don't think so, i think it's nokia 6110, u just have to trust me, I'm from Perth

u always get to hear people shouting, "hey I couldn't hear you, but it's fullbar"

        • it's fullbar

That would be a good brand name for phones, lots of free advertising :)

  • Damn. Bought this a couple of days ago and paid for shipping :(

    Good Deal though +1

G-Dawg, try sending Kogan a message explaining your situation, quite often they will credit you with the difference. I managed to get a $20 voucher once in another promotion just by asking.

      • Thanks :) Sent them an email and asked. Would completely understand if they said no, but worth a try.

        • +1

Kogan provided me with store credit, can't complain with that.

  • How is the battery life on this one? My Galaxy Nexus battery life is not good.

    • Gets me through the whole day with maybe 1/2 to 1/3 to spare depending on how I've been using it. Screen is the biggest power drain. I leave WiFi and 3G on, but location off.

    • 'should' be better than the nexus - the Galaxy Nexus was known to have rather poor battery life.

    • I charge mine maybe every 2-3 days. Lasts way longer than S2 did.

    • Try the new update which was released couple of days before as the kitkat 4.4.2 had some battery eating bugs

    • I get about 2-3x the time than I did out of my Galaxy Nexus most days.

    • I "upgraded" from a Nexus 4 after I broke the screen. My N4 had been used pretty heavily and the battery life was very poor, My Moto G seems to get two or three times the battery life.

    • I bought a spare battery (genuine samsung extended battery - 2000mAh) and have been alternating between the two batteries for almost two years….they are both barely lasting a day now. I am tossing up between getting another new battery or lookign for a new phone.

    Does this thing have a Toll$stra blue-tick?

    • Local only if you're in Sydney. It's not a Motorola Australia warranty, it's provided by the seller.

      • Yes but they said "repair will be undertaken by Motorola and not third party individuals".

So they are local stock but not sure about Kogan.

        • Note how they don't say "Motorola Australia". The 16GB model was never released in Australia, so it's definitely not Australian stock.

So if the phone has a problem:
          - You send the phone to them in Sydney (who pays shipping?)
          - They send the phone to their supplier overseas who gets it repaired under warranty
          - They send the phone back to you

Kogan's warranty works the same way. They pay for shipping both ways too.

    • if i buy from you, how soon would i receive the item? Can i pick up this weekend?

  • +2

Remember that the 4G + SD card version will be out soon. Buy this if you want dual sim, or need a phone now. Otherwise its probably worth the wait.

  • want to buy, but now i know the Huawei G526 can be gotten depending on offers for around $100, am waiting.

    • If you don't need dual sim.

  • Bought one a month ago from this deal for $185 https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/144571

Has been going great, is a fast phone, with good screen, and getting two days out of the battery with low/average use.

This is definitely a great deal especially with local warranty.

  • +1

Love my Moto G. The screen is incredibly tough, but I also bought a Shell Grip back as a little extra protection without much extra bulk. When a mid range phone is this nice, its really hard to justify a flagship phone.

At around the $200 mark, local warranty is a little less important to me.

    • +1

Agree. The capability of this phone and Nexus 5 makes it hard to justify spending $800-$900 for an iPhone or Galaxy S5 (local prices).

      • Used to have LG P716 with dual sim, but the Android is still stuck with Jelly Bean and bloated with LG software until I set my eyes on Moto G, never looked back. Fast and guaranteed with latest OS upgrade. Got the 16gb and worth every penny. I definitely won't settle for 8gb version.

      • Because you haven't got fruit poisoning yet.

  • Highly recommend this phone. It's solid, good battery life, and does most things.

  • How does the dual sim work? I'm traveling overseas and will probably buy a local sim card there. Presumably I can have that and my Optus sim in the same phone. Is that a good thing to have?

    • +1

when you put the 2nd sim card in, you can set it up so that it will use data on the local sim and outbound text/calls will go through that. But you'll still be able to receive calls and text on your optus sim ( if you have roaming activated )

    • +1

Both SIMs are active for voice and SMS, and you can even choose the outgoing SIM on a per call or per number basis, but only one SIM is active for data.

    • +2

just back from overseas. the thing works fantastic as dual sim. I just disabled my telstra sim so i wouldn't get phone calls and then once a day enable the sim and get any messages there are different options for data and priority of sims. I love the phone just hate no sd card

  • Am i correct in thinking theres no memory card slot?

    • That's correct. So prefer the 16G model.

  • Really good phone - very impressed with mine. Also have HTC One which is better but 3 times the price.

  • How does this compare with the Nexus 4? Mine seems like it's on the way out, so a nice cheap replacement would be great.

    • better than nexus 4. Better designed and similar performace, though you lose qi wireless charging.

    • Nexus 4 has Much better processor specs.

Moto G is a good phone for that price point but if you want better quality, but very average battery life go for nexus 4.

    • +1

      Nexus 4: Snapdragon S4 Pro + Adreno 320 + 2GB RAM
      Moto G: Snapdragon 400 + Adreno 305 + 1GB RAM

Just looking at the performance of the SoC, Nexus 4 would be quite a bit quicker than Moto G. However for a well-known brand phone that's $200 delivered, Moto G would be it.

    • Lots of comparisons online, I think Nexus 4 is faster but the Moto G's battery life is better.

  • Kogan have a $3 add-on when you checkout, for "freight protection".

    Is this bullshit, or necessary??

  • Still using my Motorola defy+. Should I get this,.?

    • Stick with the Defy+ until the new models come out. It can only get cheaper. It's already down from what I paid a couple of months back.

      • Highly recommend Moto G. I also had a Moto Defy+ before getting the G. The G is also more water resistant than the Defy w/o the need for port covers.

  • It seems the free shipping offer has expired. It calculates $34.99 shipping to WA. Oh well, I guess I will wait for the microsd version.

    • With the EoFY coming up another retailer might put up a deal.

  • Got my phone yesterday (ordered earlier than this deal was posted).

Great phone, definitely prefer it to my Nexus 4.

    • Did you order through Kogan? and if so how long was the wait between order and arrival? I have bought a phone from them once before and it took a while but I cant remember how long exactly.

      • Ordered: 7 June (Saturday)
'Left the Warehouse' email: 17 June
        Received: 17 June

So apparently the 'Left the Warehouse'email might be a bit delayed…

        • +1

ordered 12th, email on 17th, received phone on 18th.
          Very good phone.

  • 8 days since I ordered, no word from Kogan.
    Still coming??

    • Same, ordered 13th, have heard nothing.

      • I don't see an ability to log into their site. So we cannot see the status of our orders.

        :(

        • +1
