    Thanks Donga,
I flew a couple of Qantas business class trips and I must say that the virgin business class was far superior. My BF reckons that Virgin International business class is fantastic. The Syd and Mel qantas business lounges were better than the Virgin Perth lounge, but not by a huge amount. Thanks for putting up all these Virgin deals.

    • Cheers. The competition for business class travellers in Australia has been pretty intense the last couple of years so aircraft/lounges have got a lot better. Great for travellers but not so great for airline profits (yet).

I registered but there was never any mention of velocity. I have looked to see if I can find someplace to put my velocity number but there is none. Hope I didn't miss out.

    • I was a little worried about this too but the email said you just need to ensure your First and Last Name and email address match the information currently in your Velocity Account.

      • +1

Here's the thing though, unless it is hidden deep in some Ts&Cs, they can not share info. I wouldn't think so anyway. There are very very few billers signed up so far.

Australia Post is desperate for people to sign up for their worthless digital mailbox, why would I want to have an additional email account to log into when I'm already receiving bills via email? Secure Digital Mailbox? Whoopie my email is secure enough and it's one more login and Australia Post have a history of screwing up every technological project so I doubt their system will be more secure than my Google Apps account.

The Digital Mailbox was years late and has few companies signed up.

"Australia Post has signed two agreements taking on industry partners to bolster its MyPost Digital Mailbox service."

"Australia Post launched its Digital Mailbox service to the public last year with the aim of sustaining its position in Australia’s transactional communications field as its physical letters business declines."

"The Post says it has had a “strong uptake” since its launch, with businesses including Telstra, AMP, Sydney Water, Brisbane City Council and many others looking to support it."

Thanks to the OP for posting.

  • how much is the 1000 pts worth?

edit - looks to be about $5

    • +1

Yes, about $5 if you redeem points for gift vouchers. If you redeem for flights/upgrades the value increases.

  • +1

what is the earliest time to quit after signup?

    • Not sure. Probably best to wait until the points are in your account at least. Email said:

Points will be allocated to your Velocity Account within three business days from date of sign up.

    • +1

How do you quit? Just not use it?

    • +1

If you're planning to join then quit for the 1000 points which is apparently $5 value … is it really worth your time?

      • +7

        Yes.

  • +1

Absolutely no mention of Velocity in any of the registration process or T&C, think I might wait a while and see what transpires.

Unless there is cookie tracking thru a link, or you can quote velocity account Nbr, how on earth do you get the points! Doubt if there is a unique partnership with Virgin and Aust Post for this.

    • -1

The link that I posted above was from the Velocity email and seems to have some sort of Velocity (VFF) referral codes in it.

      • I would suggest waiting to register via an email, otherwise people aren't going to get the points. Hopefully it's not targeted, and the emails will slowly make there way to all VFF members.

    • I'm not really involved with this project at work but judging by this news article I think it may be a pretty closely integrated partnership.

    • To earn Velocity Points, simply ensure your First and Last Name and email address match the information currently in your Velocity Account

  • +1

    Perhaps only a targeted offer?

    • +1

No, I received a heads up about the promotion at work that said it would be open to all Velocity members. It is also mentioned here.

  • Thanks donga100.

  • Thanks Donga100.

Note to those who have already signed up prior to this.

You cannot use your email address twice and an issue with the digital mailbox is that you cant change your email address within the digitalmailbox, which may be a further issue sometime if you need to change this with spammed email accounts.

So the solution is to change the email address in your velocity account (maybe?) so you can now register with digitalmailbox again for your 1000 points.

One would think a promo like this would be widely publicized?

    AusPost tried to reinvent email?

    Easy bill payments
Schedule payment reminders and set automatic payments

Why would I need AusPost to do this, lets take my internet bill:
They send me a reminder via email (oh, sorry are we calling it cyber digital mailbox now?)
They then pay it automatically because I told them so via their online accounts thingo.
Easy? It pays automatically, or I can pay via credit card manually or even scan a QR code with a mobile phone app and pay via BPAY. Easy as pie.

Free account, including 1GB of personal document storage

    Wow 1GB!!!1ELEVEN
    Google Apps: 30GB
Gmail started with 2GB from memory.

Access anytime, anywhere via any device with an internet connection

Email can be stored off line.

Highly secure systems keeping your information safe

Bullshit, they know it and we all know it.

"Highly secure systems keeping your information safe" is now a explicit guarantee under the Australian Consumer Law. So when (not if) they get pwned,
    http://www.consumerlaw.gov.au/content/the_acl/downloads/cons… <0 CTRL-F (Or Command-F) "consequential loss"

    • "Easy bill payments
Schedule payment reminders and set automatic payments"

That was a selling point for their postbillpay.com.au.

      Until they canned that service.

  • +1

    No Android app?

  • +2

This is great, Auspost has doubled the number of subscribers to this fantastic useful service from 3 to 6.

  • +1

About as archaic as snail mail, APO only keep alive due to ebay deliveries

  • +2

About 2 decades after the Internet and they finally manage a basic email system?

  • I think Digital Mailbox has its positives, I don't believe it aims to replace your email.

    Right now:
    - Providers are mostly billers, but not all, you could opt to receive mails from councils (and maybe soon all the public services like Medicare) as well

    If it takes off:
    - AusPost is not simply an email provider, but is a government postal agency, hence companies that hesitate to send you emails instead of mails right now due to gov regulation / laziness (think gov department) will be compelled to bloody send less paper mail and to the mailbox
    - AusPost may provide a service to scan selected printed letter addressing to us to the digital mailbox? (Obvious potential privacy issue, I guess depends on what sort of letter)

(I'm in no way affiliated with Aus Post, I'm just fed up with paper mail)

  • +1

Last time I checked T&Cs they reserved the right to data mine messages received and pass them on (presumably aggregated) to third parties. This doesn't seem right for an Australia Post service, especially when they charge senders real money to deliver emails (around a quarter of the mail stamp amount). Double dipping?

  • I don't believe anyone will get their points as it doesn't let you provide your velocity rewards number, I know they can marry up a name with email, but that appears to be an odd method of going about things to me and has a much higher failure rate.

    • +1

The obvious question is: how they can marry up a name with velocity rewards membership without getting membership number? I am sure there would be quite a few identical names. And wouldn't it be easier to get this number in a first place?

  • How about with older people 80 plus. They don't how to use the computer even own it. Poor grandpa and grandma. I think the post office still need to delivery original paper with letterhead from utilities, bank, superannuation companies. Once I wanna rollover all super as it print as PDF and the pharmacy didn't want the print copy as proof/ genuine certification.

    • Poor grandpa and grandma will still be serviced - but nobody under 65 should expect to receive inefficient and expensive paper.

Having a registered digital mail service like APDM is all about making the online world more certified and trustworthy.

  • Getting back to the original offer, I signed up on the 8th, still no sign of the 1000 points.
    How long should it take?

    • Close of business today according to the email.

      • +1

I forgot Monday was not countable; I rarely got public holidays off when I was working, now retired they are even less noticeable.

        • Still no points for me, and I signed up on the 7th.

        • Yeah, I haven't received my points either. I kind of had a feeling that 3 business days was an ambitious target. Anyway, this also made me realise that I hadn't been credited points by Virgin Mobile either so I've submitted a claim for those and emailed Velocity about the Aust Post points.
