Also the DSCHX30V for $159 is good value:

Can't comment on these re-furbs, but I had this camera for a couple of years (bought during the Harvey Norman 2 for 1 deal on the HX-20V's but was sent HX-30V's instead), and was a really good pocket travel camera. It had a good optical Zoom and worked very well in low light without a flash. Only negative is it does take a little while to start up.

Because I kept it in my pocket without any case while travelling, it ended up getting some dust in the lens (my own fault).

The up side Sony has just replaced it with a HX-60V under warranty.

The HX-30V is smaller and fits better in the pocket.

Don't do it, this camera is horrible. It's like a phone, only good photos outdoors. If you have a phone you don't need this camera. The HX5V (3 models back) is better than this camera. RX100 all the way if you can afford it.

    • Sounds like you may have a faulty camera,I have the DSCHX30V and couldn't be happier,it takes great photos.

  • I wouldn't recommend upgrading to this if you already have Lumix TZ25/30 or similar. I purchased this in last December at Dicksmith sale and returned after couple of days. Image detail drops after 10x zoom compared to my TZ25(which is older and lower MP than the HX50) and details in night shots also lower than the TZ25.

But daylight pictures were really good.

  • Thanks! Got mine from graysonline delivered yesterday. Came with the original box with charger, cables, docs. It's quick to start. Light weight. The zoom is very quick. The control via wifi from your phone is a really useful feature.

But I can't get the GPS to work, it gets the full bar for all 4 GPS signals but the location doesn't appear.
And when you turn on some of the special effects each shot needs extra processing which takes a second or two.
