  • Can we just use the LED T8 tube in the normal holder?

    • +2

I have looked at the datasheet for that tube, and it isn't the same electrically as a fluoro tube. Power goes in one end only, appears the other end is open circuit. Than means your batten will need re-wiring, possibly it would be sufficient to just short the contacts at the open-circuit end. You'd also have to remove the starter, I don't think the LEDs will appreciate the high-voltage pulses the starter creates, and it's not needed. Not sure about the ballast, you may be able to keep it in-circuit, but it will just waste power (by heating up) and not do anything useful, so probably better to disconnect it.

I am not an electrician, if you use any of the above information you do so at your own risk.

        Hi all,

Thank you Russ for your input here. You are better than lots of LED lighting Sales out there :)

I would clarify the installation of LED T8 tube here.

Firstly, I would like to say, existing ballast does consuming 3 W of power.

So, to help our customer saving more from electrical bill, LED tubes have to be connected to 240V AC power directly. In this case, the power consumption would only be the lamp circuit power.
For retrofit of the existing fitting, I would recommend user to have a electrical skilled installer.

From the list, the newer model 5000K Cool White 18W /20W/ 22W are plug and play model.

If you are having electrical ballast, what you have to do is
        1 Take the starter off
2.Put the LED starter onto the starter holder (supplied with product)
        3.Install the light tube
        4.No rewiring is required.

If you are having magnetic ballast, rewiring is required.

Any enquiry, please feel free to contact us.

        • Do you have any of the "kits" that have the alternative balast replacement to run LED?

        • I am afraid not. LED tubes have integrated drivers inside the tube. You may connect the power to one end of the holder. (Just needs to be careful and skilled installer is recommended.)

Alternatively, the kits that we have is a LED light holder with 2 LED tubes in it. You may connect the light box to any 10Amps power plug.

          Is this what you want?

        • Thanks for the reply but no, i'm not after anything where i have to do my own wiring. Just want the tubes and the ballast replacement to run the LED straight off the mains.

This one comes with a tube and a LED starter (Ballast)

So it is just plug and play

    • all of this is armchair research!

      No.

Your existing fluorescent tubes are connected to the mains via the starter cap. This needs to be disconnected and the connection shorted (bypassed) so that it is basically not there before the LED tubes will work. Apparently you can buy kits now, that replace the starter cap with an alternative cap containing a simple wire.

  • Can I order online and then pickup in your show room in Sydney?

    • Yes, please ring us on 9099 2688 ASAP. We have sold out some of the products.
