    Was contemplating until:

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/review/RS9SVQL5TC64G/ref=cm_cr_pr_vi…

Pretty scathing about the leather covering.

    • Yeah this is true, my wife really wanted one of these so we bought one at $99 a bit over a year ago. No matter what you do, leather comes off. Almost to the touch. You just have to kind of put up with it.

She loves it though as you can chuck some D batteries in and take it to the park for a picnic.

    • We bought one last year for $200 at Big W and seems fine. Wifey loves the look of it. Although we use it in our kitchen and it doesn't get moved about.

  • these dab radios amaze me - I can't understand how manufacturers get away with making digital radios with single (mono) speakers
to me that makes no sense

so do at least have stereo speakers, not this model from what I can tell by the reviews

    • Even if they put in two speakers, you will not get real stereo out unless your head is actually touching the radio. Stereo effect only works if you have speakers on both sides of your ears. I would personally take off the leather.

Stereo does not require the speakers to be on both sides of your ear. Do you have surround sound in your house? Do you sit on your TV whilst experiencing the stereo sound of your front two speakers?

  • Yet another wildly overpriced dab

I think if people realised how cheap and simple the little DAB Receiver module is inside all these radios, they'd never pay these sort of prices over a normal fm radio.

    • Are there any decent and affordable DAB+ radios?

      • I have a few Sangeans, best thing is to try any radio in-store, some models are really good and some are really bad and tinny.

DPR-65 tinny, don't like it and don't recommend

DPR-67 is great and bought it when JB had a half price sale (about $60) on all DAB radios last year, this relaces the

DPR-69 which is also great but I think all models had a problem turning on and off (you had to push the button several times to get it to do what you want) discontnued now.

DO NOT buy a cheap tinny one to save $20 as you will hate it. For me the sound from 67 and 69 are amazing.

      • If you want to get good sound from a DAB+ radio, the best thing you can do is connect it to a quality external amplifier and speakers. The speaker is the weakest part of the radio. If you must have portability, then get one with the best speakers that you can afford.

I have a couple of stock DAB+ radios connected to my amplifier and computer for capturing programs. Most people would not be able to tell the difference from a FM broadcast if I didn't tell.

The simplicity of DAB+ module is deceptive. Size does not equate to sound quality. This is a digital world where the size of the component is not an accurate indication. Think about those now ancient portable CD players. They sounded very good when connected to an external amplifier (though of course not as high end as a good mains powered CD player).
