Olsent 10A 4 Outlet Power Brick with Safety Switch - $26 (Was $59) @ Masters

140

After mine broke at work last week, needed a new one. Never usually see these for less than $60 at the hardware stores, so it's quite a bargain.

Seems to be available at most stores that I checked with a few exceptions.

Cheapest one at Bunnings is $69.

Heavy duty version also available for $29 https://www.masters.com.au/product/900024207/olsent-havy-dut…

That one (product code MAS_900024206 )is out of stock in WA, however this one appears exactly the same but $29

(the word 'havy' is their typo not mine!)

    • i think that one has a heavy duty (thicker) orange power cord

      • The strange thing is, I ordered the $26 one and got the one with the orange cable on collection.

  • it is a clearance item. i bought this a month or two back and it i think it is well worth the price with the inbuilt safety switch.

  • This is cheap. Anyone know how they compare with the HPM ones?

this one will be chinese. i think they are clearing these because olsent was involved in a power cable recall late last year

Thanks. I'll think I'll stick to quality when playing with power

        • how does it get approved if it's so dodgy? corrupt or incompetent checks?

        • there was something wrong with the plastic formula of the insulation in certain batches of cords "The plastic coating insulation on the cable can become brittle when exposed to high temperatures over time. The cable can degrade through exposure to external heat such as if it is used in the roof of homes or in warmer parts of NSW."

        • Are the extension cables used on these power bricks brittle too?

Very little is actually approved anymore, all of these products are self certified by the importer as meeting Australian standards. Other countries require proper testing of products like these before they can be sold but Australia allows pretty much anything in.

        • What you posted is complete and utter bull.

Power Outlets and Cables are Declared Articles and MUST be fully safety tested and certified as safe to sell by a registered certifying body.

It is a MASSIVE personal fine and criminal offence to sell Declared Articles in this country that are not tested and certified.

        • Simple - Safety Testing for approval and certification is not testing for durability.

      • yes have had to replace alot of their infinity range cabling in house… stick to reputable brands and not these cheaper chinese immitations…

Trust this fella. Look at his name

      • i'm not suggesting they are unsafe. they wouldn't be selling them if that was the case

        • +1

LOL. Bunnings keeps selling dodgy fans and heaters that are unsafe and all they do is recall them each time and buy another $2 product from another Chinese factory and sell it for $39. These companies are only interested in profit and care little about safety because even if someone dies no-one from the company will be held responsible, an insurance company will pay out the family involved and the product will be recalled to be replaced with another cheap product that may or may not pose a hazard.

        • If X is less than the cost of a recall, we don't do one

  • Just a headsup for those considering gift vouchers from Masters…. DONT!

They expire after 12 months, but you wouldnt know it as when you look on the back of the card it prints the ISSUE date (as opposed to the important expiry date), and then buried in the middle of the conditions it states that expires after 12 months. The expiry date is the most important part of the card other than the value, yet they try and hide it as much as possible. Misleading imo.

    Bunnings? NO EXPIRY.

Very frustrating getting a $50 Xmas present that is worth nothing when you try and save it for something bigger.

    • Should ask them. I had a JB one that expired and I asked the shop and they happily still accepted it.

    • can't you just buy another gift card using the old gift card?

  • I grabbed one of these from Master back in November last year and wondered why they were on sale but it seems to be their everyday price.
Great value and nearly purchased one (different brand, Arlec) from Bunnings but thankfully I needed some other stuff that only Masters had.

  • This thing is awesome. I don't know if mine is the same brand but it looks basically identical. I've had it for 25 years and it still works perfectly.

    • There is a huge difference between the one that you have (likely HPM) and this one. I can guarantee that this one won't be around in 25 years time.

    • Yep. Yours is the HPM original.

This is a cheap chinese copy.

  • Tried finding this today at Masters Tingalpa. Could not find.
