What are the T & Cs? Can I break my $150 shop into 6 lots and then go scan my rewards card 6 times or what?

  • Can the 3G USB used with optus or vodaphone?

    What bands does it support?

    • From previous experience, yes it can. You have to pay $7 and this application does it for you

And it works on all three 3g bands

      • Awesome thinking of using it as a backup WAN on my Asus RT-AC66U router.

      • "…And it works on all three 3g bands."

No, I'm pretty sure this modem is only 850/2100 MHz, so not so good for Optus 900 MHz or Vodafone 900 MHz in regional areas.

        • Not well, but will still work on 2100 when unlocked?

        • Pretty sure It's 2100/900/850, but wont make a difference to 2100 if its only 2100/850

Coles has a spend $30 and for $10 receive the the telstra elite wifi dongle with 1gb data

    • There are so many Telstra devices it's hard to be sure - is the Coles offer 3G or 4G?

      • Never seen a 4g one offered for $10

    • ..

    • NPNT…

    • Think I saw this last week. Definitely a 4g one

    • Is the Coles deal still on? Cant find it online.

  • Good deal if you need to spend $30 or more at Woolworths already, anyone wanting multiple and having to split up the transaction into $30 lots are hard core OZ Bargainer's!

  • Oh he's got the catalogue early again! Swoon!

    • +2

A hardcore ozbargainers gets a job delivering catalogues, not for the $2 an hour but for all the early bargain shopping.

  • Is it possible to get the starter sim kit and move the $30 credit to Google Play, and then just toss the sim?

    • Yeah, kind of, if you are going to use the credit in one month go on the Encore Cap plan so you don't waste any of the $30 on data usage in the play store (also wait 30 mins after activating otherwise you will start eating your credit before the prepaid offer applies).

But you can't transfer the balance, you have to make purchases by clicking the down arrow to choose Telstra Billing as an option. Don't forget the $20 app limit too.

      • Thanks for the tip. What is the $20 app limit?

        • Telstra allow to buy apps up to $20.

        • I think subscriptions are fine though.
I use the pre-paid encore and if you don't use all the credit in the 30 days, as long as you've recharged again before expiry it will roll over. I purchase my $90 afl subscription each year this way, which is great because usually I struggle to find things to purchase anyway. :)

Edit - haven't tried it this year but last year was fine.

      • So you get 3gb and $30 credit?

        • Can't Telstra Bill anything over $20 - just some arbitrary decision between Telstra and Google.

Encore plan gives 500MB data and "$250" worth of calls etc. Once the 500MB runs out the balance will be good for maybe another 125MB at $2 a MB if you haven't made any calls etc.

    • Looking at previous post discussion (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/105982) about the micro-SIM for ipad, translating value of the card into play store credit is Social engineering.

The 3G USB deal is not as good as the Coles one last week, which was a Elite 3G WiFi modem for $10
    The $10 SIMs are great!

    • but in combination they appear very good.
coles - get the dongle and 1Gb data for $10
woolies - get several 3Gb data for $10 each

my non 3G ipad is now 3G.

    • NPNT? :p

Someone send me a link on what i missed :'(

  • Do these SIM cards have an expiry date? For example, can I buy 2 or 3 and only activate each one as required (like when travelling interstate on holiday)?

  • Can you put the boost mobile cards into the dongle to use the data?

  • About time $30 sins are back to $10 they used to have it all the time, now gonna buy a couple more since these deals don't pop up. Betcha heaps of people just gonna be walking g out with telstra cards ._.

  • Use this as credit for the Play store.

  • Get in early. They are usually all sold out, here in Cairns by 10a.m on first day of sale.

  • So let me get this right… can I only get 1x sim starter kit for every $30 purchase?

If so, I'd prefer to wait for the sim kits to be $10-15 without having to spend $30, that way I can buy a few without having to commit $30 over things I may not need

Still a decent deal though I guess

    • It's a supermarket, pretty rare are the times nobody needs at least $30 of groceries….

      • Well, then I guess it's probably just me being single and all, and wanting to buy multiple kits without having to shell over for stuff I don't need.

I've always bought 3-5 kits in the past bargains to help me last a while and if I were to do the same now, I'd have to spend $90-150 ($30 in ea transaction for 1 kit) in "whatever" to get 3-5 kits.

I can understand those with families and such to have a need to spend $30+ in one transaction for one kit, but for me, nope.

    • So… was I neg'd for an incorrect assumption or was I neg'd for my own purchasing habits? A reply from those who neg'd me would be nice.

And yes, that's correct, maybe it's just me being a cheap a**, but I rarely ever spend $30+ in one transaction (that's $40+ including the kit) at any supermarket unless there's some sort of special that warrants it, and currently there's not much to tip me over.

Sorry, but I don't exactly feel rich having to spend $30+ on things I do not need just to get ONE sim kit for $10 when I can wait the usual 2-3months and buy MULTIPLE kits for $10-15 each with no commitments of having to spend anymore.

      • negs weren't from me. :)

  • Nice deal, thanks.

  • Thanks OP, need to get one for a visiting friend.

She needed a data pack for ipad, and she's not a heavy user and only staying for 10 days. So here's my thinking, I'll get the prepaid starter and activate Cap Encore with 500mb data which is plenty for her, then after she left I got 20 days to use up all the call credits.
The question is would the (nano) sim work in ipad mini?

    • iPad Mini is Nano SIM.

      • I guess my wording of the question wasn't very clear.

I know the sim will fit, my question is the reverse of question below. Would putting a phone sim into an ipad (just use data) cause any problems?

  • Can the Telstra 3gb ipad be used on devices other than an ipad.
E.g. if I put the sim into an iphone, could I set up a wireless hotspot and use the 3gb that way.

  • I want to buy one for my backup phone. I'm thinking of buying one and getting the long life plan but I like the rates of the simplicity. Is there anyway of combining the 2?

    • activate as long life then switch offer to simplicity, that way you get to keep the long expiry date and simplicity rate.

      • Awesome thanks!

  • can i spend $30 on gift card and still have this offer

    • Gift cards are usually excluded from these deals

Such a pain buying these SIM kits from Woolies. They insist on seeing ID and entering it into their system.
HN and AusPost just hand them over.

Also most checkouts don't have them on-hand so they have to go to the express checkout our out the back to get them.

  • Buy your bus ticket (my bus2 is now 29.6) plus a bit of grocery so you can claim this

  • Got 2 for the minimum spend thanks.!

  • Got one of these yesterday. The "supervisor" at the checkout hadn't heard of the deal. But the register worked it all out once the reward card was scanned…

The whole process took a while as she had to type in all my details. So don't go for this if you are in a hurry.

  • It is a good deal. But I wonder if the $30 SIM Starter Kit is only for data. Can I make calls on it?

    • only ipad sims are data-only :)

  • "Offer must be redeemed by 11/03/2014"

does that mean it must be activated by 11/03/2014?

  • The SIM pack I picked up has an expiry date of Dec 2014.
The 11 Mar 14 date is the offer expiry.

    • THX will try to get one

  • Why is this deal expired?

    • had to spend $30 by 4/3 to receive voucher to be redeemed by 11/3

      • What voucher? I thought you just need to spend $30 in a single transaction?

        • receipt = voucher :)
