  • Now… What are some good android play store apps/games to buy at 50% off…. ^^

    • final fantasy? I heard they're good

      • Yeah. Also might give Tomtom a go. Might be worth trying at half price…

    • Is it possible to use the credit in in-app purchases? or only for the initial cost of the app?

  • so let's get this straight. I'm an existing Boost subscriber. Can I buy a large number of Boost vouchers and just activate them on my existing Boost account each month (effectively getting half price service for the however number of months I have vouchers?)

    • +3

To my knowledge: no you cannot.

Unless you buy two variants and switch back and forth to keep your current number.
      (Porting).

People will usually buy a 50% pack for the $30 in Google Play credit. And if you need the data etc

      • +1

BanSlavery is mostly right, these are starter packs, not for continuing users.
However, the usual ozb way is to switch from whatever telco you're with to voda (assuming it's not voda to begin with) using their $2 sim card, then switch back to your old telco.
Some people claim that this only takes a few hours but when I switched from Optus to Telstra took them 2 working days (over a weekend, ouch).

        • Yup! And you can use any of the telcos for $2 SIMs but can always buy the starters and use that credit.

Also, you could always do creditme2u for data packs.

          Telstra: $10 = 200mb $20=700mb (note there's a daily creditme2u limit)

          Unsure how Optus works but I've been told it's $5= 500mb (?)

        • Optus requires real $5 recharge for 500MB, not from the funny money…

        • So you can't use part of the $30 recharge?

        • I'm planning on porting between a Boost $40 sim card and another telco's $2 sim card.

Would you happen to know which is the fastest to switch from boost and back???

          Thankyou

        • -1

          Most likely Boost to Telstra.

Optus states it can take up to 72 hours.

        • Can't do Boost to Telstra and back. Their Sim's only allow you to port from a non telstra provider unless you get a "blank" sim and these are not available at coles. (though boost phone reps will try to tell you they are) try combining this with a yatango free trial and then bounce to voda or optus prepaid sims.

        • how about switch to free sim and back? https://www.lebara.com.au/free-sim

      • +1

Note: the BOOST credit cannot be used for Google Play, genuine Telstra prepaid only (main balance, not bonuses)

      • +1

What's this about Google Play? I thought these were sim starter packs?

        • +1

It comes with $30 credit which can be used as Google Play credit.

          ($30). Telstra or Optus only.

        • Optus

This is the first I've heard of this. I was sure it was a billing option exclusive to Telstra. Could you share some source of this? Maybe screenshots of it working even.

        • I was told by Optus staff it could… hmmm I know Telstra does as I'm a current Telstra user.

I'll edit that in just in case!

  • what expiry do the boost have ?

    • expiry Oct 2015.

  • Damn that $20 boost prepaid plan looks good but then I noticed it says from Feb/18 they're going to use 1mb sessions instead of 1kb :(

nvm that $20 boost plan you can only use for 15 days.

    • 'cosy duopoly,' and they are all rubbish
tho captive customer base= no worries.

    • +1

Even worse they are reducing the data allowance from 3GB to 2GB, I had bought a half price Boost starter pack last year, only just took it back for a refund. Sticking with Aldi mobile unfortunately.

  • I use 100Mb data a month and not much phone calls. What is my best option here?

    • +5

Telstra Prepaid "Simplicity" offer: recharge $30 to get 60 days might work for you. Then if you don't use it all have a random prepaid sim on long-life to CreditMe2U a few dollars every 10 or 12 days until you run the balance down again (buy these at a discount such as this offer to double your value). Rinse repeat :)

note: 100MB on this plan costs $10 so you would only have $10 left over for calls in the 60 days.

very good ..i have known now for a while which one of them is mobile broadband 4G 10.3Gbpack Enough knowledge now not to waste time with those others…

∞ Txt ,unlock Zte Mf60 working wonders

    • I thought MF60 was 3G. How are you pulling 4G speeds? And how are you benefiting from unlimited texts if you're putting your sim in the MF60?

  • Deals like this make me wish I had a dual SIM phone.

  • The vodaphone ones still have double data for the next 6 months? (2gb?) + extra data packs at standard rates using funny money

    • I'm on $35 post paid voda, no contract. It was a great deal, but I've never used so much data! I'm tearing through the 1Gb in 3 weeks. Excess data is killing me. Calls/text, I've only ever crossed 50% ONCE.

Looked at lebara, but no shop has the sims. I need to do something asap. Rolls over in 3 days.

      Advice/experience appreciated.

  • does anyone know which offer has the longest credit expiry and/or which one can recieve calls/text for the longest without topping up?

    • +2

What are you after, you do not have to stick to these 4 telco's unless you want to some reasons,
as there are better deals with long expiry credit such as aldi one
($5credit for 365 days, with telstra 3G and you can receive calls and text, even make calls/text…)

      • Amaysim has a 'pay as you use' plan. I think you have to purchase $5 min (not sure) but it then lasts for as long as it lasts (ie until you use it up).

        • +1

          It's only 90 days
You pay: AS YOU GO every 90 days - min $5 starter credit
Used to be with them , But now switch to Aldi… only for a spare phone , less hassle to top up and cheaper.
Also very good for kids phone…

    • Savvytel, no limits, as long as you top up, make call, send sms, or use data at least once every 6 months.

Getting a SIM today for my security system.

is it possible to price match in DSE?

    • Can't see why not. Had 2 VF Sims PM @ KM yesterday, =15 ea; scanned my fb's in for extra points. Best bonus was not having (4)forms to fill out as had been required of me earlier in COles.

  • Does this include the Telstra iPad $30 Micro-SIM starter packs? I use these in my Nexus 7.

  • Doesn't start until tomorrow, and no stock already. Went to AusPost… took catalog from out front. "Not a full post office, only stock certsin items". ARGH!!

Minused deal, but can't retract. Fix This Bug ozbargain. It's been YEARS

Can anyone explain how the google play credit works?

    • +2

Once you activate your Telstra SIM, if you go for the Encore option, you get $30 of credit + $220 of 'extra' credit.
You can use the $30 to buy items from Google Play. Explained here: http://www.telstra.com.au/latest-offers/google-play/
I have also used the $30 credit for an unlock on a Telstra Prepaid handset. It cost $27.50, which means that I effectively unlocked the phone for the cost of the Prepaid SIM kit.
And you still have the $220 credit to spend on calls, plus the data.

      • Thanks for the clarification!

      • Interesting, I didn't know you could use it to unlock phones. Could you share the instructions?

        • +1

I don't know if there is a Telstra webpage that specifically covers this, so I did it through the 'Chat' window on the Prepaid page. The Telstra consultant at the other end was very helpful, and we did the whole thing in 5-6 mins.
The handset was about 8 months old, it might have cost more if it was newer. But considering that I managed to hard unlock it for what amounted to no charge, it was a pretty good deal.

  • I have been to two Coles stores this afternoon. Plenty of stock of Boost and Telstra SIMs but neither had any Optus.

  • can these optus sims be used in an optus wireless modem? or do you need to get the mobile broadband specific sim packs?

    • +1

so I've answered my own question and no, they can't.
      tether works though.
500mb/day for 15 days using $30 recharge ($15 thanks to OP).

Just what I need while telstra mess about taking 10 business days with their futuristic POTS copper connection while moving house.

It's a travesty we as a country are going to be tethered to telstra and copper networks still… and at this late stage of the game it's not going to be any cheaper than just completing the NBN.

Imagine if the yanks had stopped building the Hoover Dam or the Empire State building halfway through just because of an election?

I guess it's easier to sweep dumb policy under the carpet when you're already underground.
