I highly recommend this software. I actually created my ozbargain account just to say this. (Always been a lurker)
I've been using the Hitfilm for years and it does let you edit, similar to Movie Maker, etc. But its real power is as a compositor. More like Adobe After Effects. But much cheaper.
If you have any interest at all in video effects you cannot go wrong with this for free! Worth having a look.
