  • Anyone know if these Australian Kindles are been tried to the Australian Amazon book store? I hope not … I hear once you lock yourself into the AUS store front you can't go back to the USA one!

I hear once you lock yourself into the AUS store front you can't go back to the USA one!

      I hear otherwise…

      • I would believe anything in the SMH :P

  • No deal, $188 at big w

      that is for the 7"

Not sure if they sell the 8.9"

      • As you say below, the description theearth links to says 7"
Dick Smith have the 7" Kindle Fire HD for $149 or $219
It seems the confusion with pricing is based on 7" vs 8.9" and 1st Gen vs. 2nd Gen (which isn't specifically stated by some vendors listings)

  • Save a lot more than $30 - these were snapped up fast before when $229 (were $329).
    And good luck finding any!

Great display and sound hardware, but no google apps or app store pre-installed. You need to side-load them.
i.e. download the apk files and install. Then there are some problems, e.g. alerts in gmail. And google earth does not work for me.

    Cyanogenmod is available.

  • would stay away from this tablet. The browsing is terrible, after all it is a superseded model. THe only pros are the screen and the size. Alos, the amazon appstore is well behind play and ios.

    • Depends on what your intended use is I guess. Reading and video would be good. More general tablet use, yes I'd look elsewhere myself.

It is a little frustrating seeing superseded models peddled off here. Not just kindle, nexus and others are the same.

Folks, those of you who get disappointed by Amazon platform, cheer up - there's another 3rd party out there that allows you to format your Kindle into Android device, also capable of restoring to original state in case for warranty purposes.

      Their website as follows: http://n2aos.com/

I believe these are old model selling at DSE, hence, can be used with their software.

      • $19.99? That's not very ozbargainer…

        • Cyanogenmod seems a much better choice.

    • The browsing is terrible

Are you using Silk? Try firefox or Chrome.

      • I side loaded chrome, still cumbersome. I

  • Out of stock now.

    • It shows in stock again.

  • Forgetting about the Kindle Fire for a moment, what is the difference between first gen kindle paperweight and whatever is the current one?
