Xbox 360 4GB Console + 2 Games + FREE Delivery $169 (after $100 Cashback)

2510

EDIT The price is now $199.(25th DEC)

EDIT 2…The offer is back. (26th DEC)

EDIT 3…Out of stock (27th DEC)

I think this one trumps all the others guys.
grababargain's comment got me curious whether the Microsoft store is included in the promotion.
Ringing up, I found out that it does qualify, so long as I purchase between the promotional period.

Currently there's also an offer for 2 FREE games, although the rep couldn't guarantee if it would still be available on the 26th. Although I would assume it would, as the fineprint states: "Offer valid from 15 November 2013 until 14 January 2014, while supplies last."

EDIT: You have to print out the emailed receipt from the Microsoft store as well as the page(s) from xbox360cashback.com.au and mail it to them no later than the 31st of January.
The cash back will be deposited into your selected bank account in 8-12 weeks.

Believe it or not, the promotion was printed and distributed in both the Target and Big W catalogs. I put two and two together and figured that the Microsoft store would also be running this promotion.

If it's wrong to spread what is already public information, then I am sorry.

      • +1

Yeah I saw that promotion in the catalogues. Just trying to get confirmation on if we are allowed to have it advertised for other retailers who are also part of promotion just as of yet. Just know that this why not a-lot of people know about this promotion as not everyone has been told yet. There are T&C and once I know if I am allowed to put them up I will if not I will do it when the promotion goes live so you don't have to go into store and pick up a leaflet.

        • +2

Microsoft store staff told me about the deal on the phone yesterday so I don't think they mind people knowing.

        • +1

Do you wear a tin foil hat and sit in your house waiting for the government, shotgun akimbo, to take you away because you just know too much?

        • -3

Funny. Now, I am just … old … and a fan of conspiracy theories.
For example, you know why they have Boxing day sales, so everybody goes and buy Gift cards. Yes sounds weird, but it is kind of stupid to buy something before Christmas, isn't it, knowing the sales are just around the corner, so you spend 50$ or 100$ on a giftcard (basically a piece of plastic), and the person receiving then "has" to spend it on something ….
In regards to the shotgun … I have no license for weapon. If I had one, I would go for a SG 552, with laser, combat scope.
Anyway … how do people say … "Time will tell"

        • That's not a conspiracy even, it's just what happens.

And I'm sure the thing outlets love the most is someone buying a gift card and it not being used - might as well just make donation to the store!

      • Michael15286, how did you find out from MS store that ordering from them is eligible for this promotion? I've tried different number but they don't have a clue… Thx

    • +7

It would appear some how this top secret info was leaked. I think the poster may associated with wikileaks.

      • +2

Hmm is Edward Snowden behinds this? May be the NSA is as they knows everything.

  • +2

does this deal come with kinect device?

    • I don't so as I added it to my cart and kinect was an option to add.

      • I don't think so**

  • Can you install a HDD in these new models?

Better yet, can you get the cashback with a model that includes the HDD?

Also, can you access the US xbox live store on an AU unit like you can on PS3/PS4?

    • Yes, they take the same drive/enclosure as the slims.

No idea yet. Will need to wait for the cash back website to go live.

Yes, but you need to setup a US xbox live account. You can easily switch between them and keep all downloads shared.

    • No, Xbox stores are IP address blocked. So if you access Xbox store from IP domiciled in Aus, you won't get the full features of the US Xbox Store. Even if you have a US Xbox Live account.

      • Can you make purchases at US prices? I don't care about Hulu, netflix and all that stuff.

Also, can you purchase DLC and downloadable games if you don't buy a Gold account?

        • That's what I meant. Most items you can purchase in US prices using US account from Aus. However, I have found a very small number of items you can't buy. It shows up as 'not available in your region'.

I haven't bothered with Hulu, Netflix etc

        • If your game is AU region can you still get US based DLC for it from the US store? I believe you can't do this on PS3.

        • I really can't say, apologies. All I know is that on very few occasions, I've been unable to take part in freebies or discounted game offers from Xbox.com because of IP blocking. My guess is that the situation would be the same to the PS3. I don't see Xbox.com being able to sell US L4D2 content for Aus IP, as an example. But that's my guess.

  • I'm certainly going to be keeping an eye on this even though I just bought one. Everyone could use a spare right?

I'm interested in whether it will be available online as well as in store. It seems that you might have to purchase a very specific model which if you pick up the wrong one you won't be eligible. And with the short window of time to purchase and claim it's not enough time to realise your mistake and swap it over.

  • I purchased xbox 360 + kinect bundle for $199 and I thought it was a bloody good deal. Oh well, at least I've got a Slim not an E.

  • So no cashback when you order from Microsoft store.

    • +1

      What makes you say that?

  • Time to grab 10 and flog it on ebay? Or claim to do so and permanently find yourself a spot in the OzB wiki.

Pisses me off that we have to slow down development on real next gen games because of the console popularity. Namely the rumours that Direct X 12 won't come out or it will but Microsoft are slowing down the release. Consoles suck compared to PC games tech but no we have to dumb our games (ported) and tech (DX) down because of $$$. Yes I know this is a random comment

Buy PC With Windows and get a Gamepad, You got the best gaming system in the world, don't know why MS don't put out Ads letting the world know they have the best gaming platform and have had for years

    • +3

Cool story… mind telling me what sort of gaming rig can you setup for $69?

      • That's exactly the point being made. If the device is cheap it becomes popular. Because it's popular stuff gets developed for it. Cross platform titles are developed/required to run on the lowest spec platform, which means people who buy the game on a high spec platform get some basturd crippled port of game.

I did the move from PS3 to a gaming PC, it only cost maybe $400 and plays everything I've thrown at it. Add to that all the cheap Steam games and in the end I suspect you might actually save money.

I'm finished with last gen consoles, no more crap; graphics, framerates and blurring effects in an attempt top hide lack of details. Some games had this real bad; FC3, SR3, Sleeping Dogs are just a few. After playing even a basic PC game like Prime World Defenders (~50cent tower defence game) at 2560x1440 with a smooth steady framerate even the thought of playing my PS3 makes me cringe.

  • Whats happening on this deal?
Has anybody bought one of them yet… Are we waiting for the so called cashback website to come online?

    • Promotion doesn't start until the 25th.

  • Plus 10% discount if you're a student with Student edge

    • +2

Just tried. Its 10% off retail of $199 with no games. So ~$180 without games -> worse deal.

    • +2

student edge is a rip. not a single REAL discount from any company.

      • At least you get to save a bit on Maccas lol

        • Nope, you get a free drink. But it's not worth the effort, they charged me for the stupid drink even though they had a sign up next to the register and I clearly showed them.
I've had Student Edge for what? Like 3 years now and I've used it once.

Further, the Offer is not available for products that are still awaiting arrival into store or delivery to the customer.

So we have to receive the console BEFORE the 31st?

    • So we have to receive the console BEFORE the 31st?

The answer is yes because you will need console serial number to register first before claiming the cashback.

I doubt MS store will deliver the console in 4 working days.

      • +1

        (purchase) between 25 December 2013 and 31 December 2013

But you have until the 31st of January to make your claim if you post in your proof of purchase. The T&Cs seem a bit odd, (when I read it) it seems to indicate you must buy, receive and file online claim within 6 days, but if you choose to post in information you have 37days.

Further, the Offer is not available for products that are still awaiting arrival into store or delivery to the customer.

Seems to apply specifically to pre-orders.

  • Full updated T&C.

      tl;dr anyone?

      • +1

Was on the phone waiting for microsoft store for 30 mins, till some rude employee picks up. I asked him if he can confirm that Microsoft has a cashbackoffer. He asks where did I see that. I told him about the site. His answer. Not my site, cannot confirm.
So I asked him if it might be a fake. Hi answer: not my site, cannot tell.
F**K !! Seriously Microsoft. is that all? Not sure I want to have to do with Microsoft more then I already have to.
So It is not confirmed, nor confirmed as a fave.

        • Damn. Thanks for the information. Maybe that was just bad luck and talking to a supervisor/higher up might tell us something?

  • Bah, it's for the 4GB only.

If you buy a HDD and insert it yourself, it will come close to just buying a SKU that already has it. 4GB is going to severely limit what you can do on the thing. So many downloadable titles you'll miss out on. DLC also. And some games that require installs.

My fear is that because the window of opportunity to claim is so small, if there's any delays in shipping or delivery, by the time I receive it it might be too late.

Boxing day is a public holiday, so probably no delivery that day. You've really only got 5 days. Probably safer to buy it at Target or JB.

Unless you can backdate the claim, but there's no indication in writing that you can do that.

    • +2

You would do well then to buy this and the 250Gb/whatever model. 2 games and a spare controller for $69 is still a good deal, hell I don't even want the console, I just want another controller.

      • I hadn't looked at it that way. Guess you're right. Could use the unit as a spare in case the main unit has an issue down the line, then just take out the HDD and insert it into the spare unit. That's brilliant!

  • Does it have to be the E unit? Big W sells the S for the same price as the E, and I think I'd rather have the S, since the E is just a cost cutting effort for MS.

Also, anyone know where is the cheapest place to get a HDD?

  • so will this model be eligible form Harvey norman?
    http://www.harveynorman.com.au/xbox-360-4gb-console-black.ht…

    • The promo site doesn't say that it wouldn't be.. All it says is 4GB console. But that should not be taken as confirmation that it is.

      • So how do you know what is eligible and what's not?

        • watch this topic I guess

        • +1

Unless they update their T&Cs, I think you can make a case (take a screenshot before you buy) that nowhere in their T&C does it say that S model is excluded from the promotion. All it says is a 4GB console, which is what you bought.

So if they reject your claim, you point out their T&C and I don't think they can defend it.

    • According to the T&C:

The Offer is available to Australian residents who have purchased a new Xbox 360 4GB console from any Australian retailer, other than auction website retailers, between 25 December 2013 and 31 December 2013

    • What models that HN one, the "s"?

  • +2

Anyone got a roundup of if this deal works or not? Like a nice summary?

    • Yeah… I'm fairly confused myself.

Some people make a point that you better of buying from the stores to make the claim online in time (by 31 Dec?), some questions the validity of the claim website, some said MS employees are not confirming this….

      This is confusing as hell

      • +1

The cashback is being advertised by Target and Big W. It has to be real.

It's not uncommon for a big corp to outsource their promos to a 3rd party to handle.

  • Does it say anywhere that the console has to be delivered by 31/12/2013. It just says that it has to be bought in that time period.
It is highly unlikely that the unit will be delivered by 31st if you buy from the microsoft store.

    • Note "during the Promotional period"

To make a claim, you need to:
      make an Eligible Purchase during the Promotional Period;
      register your details online via www.xbox360cashback.com.au during the Promotional Period;
      fill out the claim form online (Online Claim Form);
submit your Online Claim Form via www.xbox360cashback.com.au , along with a scanned copy of your Eligible Purchase receipt during the Promotional Period.

      • Except

If you do not have the ability to submit a copy of your Eligible Purchase receipt online, you will print out the Online Claim Form and mail this, along with a copy of your Eligible Purchase receipt to: Xbox 360 Cash Back Offer, PO Box 6246, BAULKHAM HILLS BC NSW 2153, by 31 January 2014

        • but what if they request you to fill the online claim form first, then they print it out for you (and they have a record the serial number on the site). So it does not matter whether you can mail the form back after 31 Dec, you dont have the product yet to register the serial number. I'd be very wary of this.

        • Yeah saw that, I'm sort of hesitated to have to argue the "if" with them, but again if I wait till the store open then there might be no stock left :(.

What's your thoughts on the HN $148 deal? that would make the console $48 lol

          Such a dilema lol

        • where is this deal?

  • Thinking of taking up one of these cash back deals, winding if anyone knows where I can pick up a cheap Kinect and also can I use a usb or external hd to install games on? Thanks

    errr……………

looks like Singapore branch is the promotoro (prolly explains by calls to microsft (prolly us or aus) wont know about this promotion

    • err… so why is the postal address for this Microsoft offer the same as that Gas place you linked to???

  • so, serial number not needed? just the invoice/receipt?

    • Well the T&Cs don't mention it but people say it is required. If it is, this pretty much makes the microsoft online store (and any other options with delivery) an ineligible option.

    • If the serial number wasn't needed, people could just photo copy other people's receipts and claim the cashback without purchasing the system.

      • This is a very valid point.

I'm still suspicious of this website, especially since Microsoft has not fully confirmed it. We need more proof that this website is legit. Major retailers may not have done their due diligence to ensure this cashback is legit. If it is fake, then in theory you could hold the retailers liable for any identity and bank information theft as a result of this website. However, that alone would be a nightmare to fix - think of the direct and indirect/consequential damages it would have.

  • Hmm… seems a bit risky to buy online is the serial number is required.
Better get it from Big W or Target IMO.

    • so that means we need to try instore on 27th since shops would be closed on 25th and 26th.

        • Stores are closed in most parts of NSW on 26th December, so for us it will be 27th.

  • +2

Is MS Store considered as an "Australian Retailer"? ie. Is ordering from MS store eligible for this offer?

  • I don't think microsoftstore.com will be eligible. And if it is, I bet they will hike the price on the 26th.

  • The Microsoft store price has gone up to $199, but still has the 2 free games. Curiously it still says "Save $30 & get 2 free games" even though the price is listed as $199.

Edit: Actually, once you go through selecting the games, the price is back to $169. Not sure if that's an error…

    • +3

I added the xbox and 2 games for $169 @23:58, and checked out at 00:02 through paypal, sadly my receipt showed ordered at 24/12/2013. I will have to call them when they return to work. Worst scenario, I have to return them all as microsoft have free return policy.

      • You forgot to factor in time differences.

      • Haha, I'm in the exact same situation! Screw them, Paypal receipt says 2 minutes past midnight.

      • Me too!!! At least my email says it came through at 12:03!

  • Tried the online claim form, mush put in "store" and "store location"

    • I'd just put in their web address.

  • Did anyone actually get solid confirmation that Microsoft Aus store in eligible?

    • No confirmation, but it's safe to assume that it is eligible, because the price hike came at just the time the promo began. If it wasn't eligible, why would they need to hike the price? The reason you would increase the price is to offset some of the cashback. If it's not eligible for cashback, people buying it from them are already paying more than they would be paying elsewhere, so there's no point increasing the price.

      • I would've assumed that the cash back scheme is from a marketing campaign/fund. And is completely independent to the costs of the xbox 360s.

the marketing push is to help sell the xbox 360s through their retail channel, which it is doing now with a frenzied buying spree amonst the ozbargain community.

  • out of stock now, I guess that makes my life easier lol
and I wasn't sure if it's eligible anyway

    • Damnit! Took too long. I was wondering why it was saying "We're having a problem processing this purchase"…

  • out of stock now, please expire the deal.

  • Just thinking aloud, not saying this is the case here: MS (or others) could get someone to set up a fake site (and not say anything) and see who buys and tries to claim. They make the profit, clear old stock and don't have to pay out. Then they can post a response to queries saying it's not an official site, blah, blah. There would be plenty of suckers like those who keep going for the fake gift card offers on Facebook. What would MS lose - They never made an official announcement in the first place. If it's a fake site they harvest ID info like the FB gift card scams.

    • Well if MS orchestrated this, they would have to explain why they misled Target and Big W into believing it also..

That's not a smart thing to do.

    • Its confirmed on the big w and target catelouges so its a legit campaign.
