ING Direct - 5% Cashback on PayWave for Existing Members (req. New Referral Signup)

2070

Woohoo, it's back!

Tell a friend about Orange Everyday before 31 January 2014, and you could both get 5% cash back. That's for 6 months on payWave purchases under $100, in Australia.

Time to put the good word out to your friends, colleagues, or fellow OzBargainers that don't yet have an account!

Edit: Please use this wiki page to put in your referral code rather than requesting / leaving them in the comments.

  • I'm pretty sure I have some family members left to convert (to ING) so I won't even spam my referral code here. But feel free to start listing yours.

  • +1

I received this email as well. But it's not easy to find one who doesn't have an ING account.

Since we aren't allowed to post referral links in deals I have created a wiki entry:

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/wiki/ing_direct_referral_links

    • +1

      Good idea daveaus.

People should also remember to remove their referral link once somebody has been referred as you can only get one 6month referal.

      • I will put that in at the top in bold.

      • +4

Also if you use somebody's code you should edit the wiki to show that, only one referral is needed per code so multiple would be a waste. I've added text to suggest this at the top of the wiki but if I wasn't meant to or people disagree, feel free to remove it.

    • +1

Look, any exist customer only need to refer one new customer to get the 5% cashback, why not make the code once off then we are not wasting the rare resources — new customers?

      • +1

I agree. Sounds simple but maybe edit (either refer or referee) the wiki once someone does use that referral.

    • +3

Do not add yourself to the top. You need to add yourself to the bottom of the list.

Also thank you to whoever removed my code from the list..

I have started a TWAM thread because with people suggesting other people remove there codes once its been used its going to become chaos.

May I suggest people only remove there own codes otherwise people will remove other peoples codes without using them in the hope that there own code gets used.

  • So how do I know my own "Friend Code" ?

    • Check your email.

      • +2

        Haven't received any email :(
        guess they don't like me

        • me neither :(

  • If any one would like a code they are free to message me.

  • Can I refer anyone? Please message me if you need a referral code/email!

The Lovely and I both have INGDirect 'Orange Everyday' accounts (and The Lovely has her vast barrister-y wealth stashed in one of their 5% 'Savings Maximiser' accounts), so let me just say this: you would be STAGGERED (yes, bold italic all-caps staggered) at how much you can save when you get 5% off everything PayWave-y.

It's like getting 2 years' worth of (understated) inflation back… and if you've got any brains you will adapt your spending patterns so that (a) you paywave everything; and (ii) you keep everything under $100.

We don't have extravagant lifestyles, but we've worked out that it's worth ~50-75 a month to us.

Normally I am allergic to proselytising, but this ING offer is the shiznit, bitchez. My Beloved Mummy is going to be my 'patsy' for this round of 5% off.

    • +2

$50-75 per month is a good amount saved and well worth it. Assumes spend of $1000-$1500 or 15+ transactions per month.

I wish we saved that much! We struggle to save $10 per month with INGDirect because we rarely find an opportunity to use paywave (we shop @ Coles/WW using 5% off gift cards).

      • Can you buy the giftcards instore using paywave (in $50 or $50+20+20 = $90 lots?) and then spend the giftcards so you get 5% cashback from ING plus 5% discount using the giftcards ?

        • then spend the giftcards so you get 5% cashback from ING plus 5% discount using the giftcards

Your method uses ING paywave as the fund source to charge up gift cards.
The giftcards are no longer linked to ING when you use them.
When you go to the checkout, the funds are already charged on the gift cards, nothing to do with your ING account anymore. No double dipping unfortunately.

The method you have described has been known to prolong the ING paywave 5% rebate period, effectively, paying forward giftcards to woolies, in an attempt to evade the paywave rebate period's expiration.

        • Ahhh sorry, I was under the impression that the gift cards themselves carry a 5% discount when used at Coles… I might be getting confused with the Xmas vouchers you can buy through the year with a 5% discount (eg $95 gives you a $100 gift card, or maybe its $100 gives you $105 gift card).

        • Sounds like you're getting confused with the 5% off gift cards bought from places like Entertainment Book.

    • +2

i buy my bus tickets with them.

    • post of the week diogenes ^1

      life in a barrel

    • I am easy getting $200 a month . My monthly food , fuel , rent , phone bill , electric , gas, internet, parents bills , train ticket .
I have even stop setting take away if they don't take pay wave

For large payment just get the payment split . I haven't found any where they don't do split payment

      • My monthly food , fuel , rent , phone bill , electric , gas, internet, parents bills , train ticket . I have even stop setting take away if they don't take pay wave

Food, fuel and train ticket is easy, how the hell did you pay the other bills with paywave?

For large payment just get the payment split . I haven't found any where they don't do split payment

Watchout, apparently a friend got flagged for buying too many gift cards in one day.

        • The Aus Post at Martin Place has Paypass. If the utility accept credit card payments from post office then you'll get the cashback.

  • Sorry but how I can get the friend code? I'm an existing member and haven't received any email…

    • +1

It should be emailed out to you today

    • +2

Perhaps you're still within your 5% off period, in which case they'll possibly send out the email to you when you come off that.

      • +1

Damn, that's probably why! Was hoping to stack it like psn subscriptions.

  • I want to sign up but there are so many options of people to pm.

    • Everyone is listing their referral codes in the wiki doc - link posted above.

  • +4

To those that need a code you can grab one immediately without waiting over in the referral thread ;)

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/wiki/ing_direct_referral_links

  • Isn't it still 5% cashback for new customers, without referral code?

    • yes

    • +1

Why not help other ppl here meanwhile? No harm to you.

    • Yes, but what not helping each other? (only need to enter a code)

    • But you can help yourselves by closing & reopening your accounts as proved previously. I suppose you could invite yourself, if you feel that way inclined.
Meanwhile, I'm all for paying-it-forward (and taking 5 steps back).

      • +2

But you can help yourselves by closing & reopening your accounts as proved previously. I suppose you could invite yourself, if you feel that way inclined.

They've been hunting people down for it, my second account reverted back to 2% after 3 weeks of usage :(

  • +1

I agree it is important:If someone uses your code don't forget to come back and remove yourself from the list.

You wont get more credit by refer more ppl. Please help the ppl posting their codes below.

  • +1

Keep considering signing up for this. Maybe it is time. Are there any main restrictions or conditions I should know about?

    • +1

Do it. I waited far too long and regret it.
      The process was easy.

      • +1

Well I'm convinced. Someone got a referral link for me?

  • +1

I still haven't got my email yet, anyone else in the same boat?

    • Yeh, I am still waiting for mine. I wonder if it is because the account is in more than one persons name.

    • i'm in a different boat but still haven't received my code.

      • its just a little tinny but I am sure there is room if you want to join me?

        • have you got plenty of cold beer?

  • I just joined. where can I find my code?

    • +1

if you've just joined as new account holder, then you already have 6-month ….!

  • Can internationals sign up and do this? Have an ING account back home in Canada, but not one here yet.

    • -1

      Yes should be ok

    • As per the first page of the sign-up process:

Who can apply and what do you need to apply?
      - You are an Australian resident for taxation purposes (18 years or older) and have an Australian residential address
      - Have your own mobile handy as you'll need it to register for Security Codes

      • Have your Medicare Card, Australian Drivers Licence, Passport or Australian Birth Certificate handy as you may need them if you elect to confirm your identity electronically (NB: We can't accept Victorian Licences at the moment, sorry)

      • If you want to open a Savings Maximiser savings account along with your Orange Everyday, have your Tax File Number handy (or you can give it to us later)

  • I haven't received any email from ING about this - anyone know how I find what my referral code is?

    • +1

      check your junk mail

      • nothing in junk mail. same question: anyone know how I find what my referral code is?

        • I second that.. I want my referral code :(

        • same boat. maybe it's selected people? (or certain account opening date).

        • yeh my 5% expires in January.. perhaps that's why

    • probably being emailed in batches

  • Where can I find my code so I can refer people?

  • What happens after 6 months? Does the 5% go away until I can refer someone else?

  • +1

Will this work if I refer my daughter (she's 10) and has a dollar mite account with CBA. I'd like to close her dollar mite account and open an Orange Everyday and a Saving Maximiser account instead and deposit her allowances there?

    • why not?

    • +1

you need to be 18 to open an orange everyday

  • Is this for new customer or existing customer ?My 5% cash back ends on Oct 2013. Can I still sign up ?

Website says - " As a new Orange Everyday customer"

  • +1

i don't have one yet. First person reply here with his/her code, i'll use it =)(just too many to choose from)

    • PM u. Thanks

  • dont have a referral code in email, not happy!

  • +1

I put my code in the referral link:
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/wiki/ing_direct_referral_links

I just found out I'm the No.1 on the list now.
Please let me know if you used my code, so I can delete it and give others a chance. Thanks.

    Edit: Someone jumped the queue……..

    • Someone jumped the queue also someone deleted my code.. let the madness begin.

      • Oh dear. Sorry to hear that, I though your code was used.

  • i havent received the codes yet (ie. email from ing) :(

  • Anyone know if I can re-signup for a 3rd time using a referral code? :P
1st run was with the original promo
2nd run was with 3 weeks of 5% and then the rebates were adjusted down to 2% :(

    • +1

You can sign up without a referral code. The benefit of the referral code is really only to continue the rebate on the existing account (instead of closing & reopening).

If you get burnt, there are plenty of other tricks out there, some more questionable than others (eg. open new account in an uninterested relative's name).

  • Ok, I read the fine print but don't understand what happens if I refer my wife and I have been getting 5% already for about 1 month. Any ideas?

  • Ah crap, accidentally removed a code while brain was editing the wiki page at the same time, and now it's locked out.
Sorry brain! Please re-add yours when you can!

  • Does anyone know that mode of payment as paypass charge extra to seller from bank? As one of wendor denied using paypass

  • it isn't clear in the t&cs, but i assume the referrer can only get the rebate for a maximum of 6 months? if that is the case then only 1 referral is useful?

  • +7

I still haven't received my code. Maybe ING thinks I have no friends :-(

  • +2

Some posters offering a code need to turn on private messaging. like aussiedogga and shikha966

    • Sorry, try again updated now :)

  • PM sent

    • +2

      Replied :)
To everyone signing up you will love ING they really are great. When I tell friends that my bank actually pays me fess they don't understand it! Also now have my home loan with them meaning I can use any ATM in the country for free with no minimum withdrawal.

      • +6

        Don't forget their mobile app.
Arguably the best mobile banking app on the planet.
(especially when every other transaction you see is a high-five back at you)

        • +1

True… And their customer service is great. Very short waiting times on the phone and helpful staff. Just hope they keep up their game over the years ahead

  • +2

Even without the 5%, ING is sensational. Their web banking and mobile app have the best UI I have ever experienced.

    • +4

Love ING deal but would have to disagree about their web banking app having best UI. CBA far better IMO.

      • Agree, withpunkboy.

CBA has a better web banking service and app (especially with the latest release).

  • Any Idea if I can know if and when my Code was used so that I can delete my code??

    • How it works for you.

      1. Forward this email to friends who would be interested in an Orange Everyday.

      2. Once we confirm they've made a deposit in their new Orange Everyday, we'll send you an email to let you know that you can start enjoying 5% cash back again. Tell as many friends as you'd like just know we're only able to offer you six months of 5% cash back.

  • +1

    Damn you ID verification.

    • +1

Asked for two forms of ID. I entered Drivers License and Medicare. Still not good enough for some reason, entered birth certificate. "Sorry you could not be identified". Now I have to go to AusPost :(

  • +1

Or you could use CHQ or SAV and help eftpos donate up to $2 million dollars to the Cancer Council and Diabetes Australia via eftpos Giveback.

  • So we now auto have 5% rebate without doing anything for current ing members?

  • Finally caved and signed up using a code. Probably should have done it a year ago. Looking forward to some fat savings!

  • Question : If I am already in my 6 month grace of 5%…does scoring a referal :

    a) Score me another 6 months from the expiry of MY six months.
    b) Score me a new 6 months from today?
    c) Have no effect?

    • My guess is that it restarts your 6 months, regardless of how far you're in to it
      (9 days, 2 months, 5 months, 11 months….)

  • I've sign in using one of the codes.
Can anyone let me know how it works ?
Do I neeed to pay with my card using PayWave ?
Do I get 5% off the bill on the spot ?

    • +1

When you make a purchase, ask if they have PayWave/PayPass. If yes, then just tap and go. :)

You pay the full bill on the spot, the 5% back will appear in your account after the transaction was cleared. It usually takes a day or two for the payment to be cleared.
