Is it good Home Theatre ? Any reviews ?

      Is your Google broken?

      • although thats quite mean but its quite true too

      • +20

Perhaps he seeks the valued opinions of the esteemed OzB community, Google shareholders.

        • +7

Thanks for understanding. I prefer OZ B's reviews rather than Google's.

    • Simply put, it'll be waaay better than you TV speakers.

    • +2

I hope so i just purchased one :) will have it unpacked, up and running tonight and will leave feedback for you sir!

    • its a pain in the arse to setup and it doesnt even come with any cables to connect to the TV if i could i would return it.. don't waste your money!

      • To be fair allot of items like bluray players don't come with the cables to connect to the tv. Helps the store outsell accessories.

It's like saying why doesn't my tv come with a antenna in the box? Despite analog tv's having them built in years ago

      • +1

I would imagine you'd have a spare HDMI cable lying around with all the deals posted here.

  • Good price, $388 refurnished from Pioneer.

  • JB just had it for $247 on the weekend just gone. I picked one up for in-laws. Definitely worth that price.

Hey guys, I need something like this in my front room. Problem is I didn't account for it when I renovated the house and now have no real way to run wires around without a lot of mess (Had floors sanded/varnished and painted room and skirts) Is there a decent wireless alternative for surround sound speaker? (Decent being a good mix of price and functionality)

    • +1

I bought a carpet to put in between the sofa and TV cabinet and run wires underneath it but am interested if there's other options as well.

      • Carpet isn't really an option, there's about 3 metres to cover and wife has scattered small round rugs in there already. I'll have to look into these wireless ones and bite at the right price.

      • I ordered one online, I'll figure something out with installation.

    • +2

There are a few out there now which have wireless in the subwoofer unit, and the rear speakers connect to that. So just throw the wireless sub behind the couch and you're off. Eg. this soundbar

  • +1

Anybody know if this supports standby pass-through?
(that enables the receiver to continue to pass audio and video signals over HDMI when the unit is in standby mode)

I could not see it explicitly listed

    Looks like the receiver is
    5.1 Channel AV Receiver (VSX-324-K-P)

I have this, bought it from the previous deal from jbhifi.

use it with my computer - is pretty good!

I have the 071 (last year's package) and it's brilliant. Replaced my Panasonic Bluray Theatre In A Box setup. Superior sound, plus 4 x HDMI inputs so I can run my Foxtel, PS3, Bluray and Media Centre through it. Works great with my Logitech Harmony remote too. If you're not after wireless rear speakers, this package is pretty hard to beat for value. The sound may not be as good as a high end HT setup, but for $250 it's f-ing great and way better than any HT in a Box setup.

    • +1

      "fling"?

    • Receiver doesn't come with a remote?

      • Yes it does, but I use my Logitech Harmony to control all my devices, saves having 4-5 remotes laying about.

  • The DSE website calls it 'micro'. It's really not, is it?

    • Nope, but as its a 5.1 Home Theatre with receiver it'd be one of the smallest ones in comparison to floorstand speakers & giant subs

  • +8

Agreed. Awesome little system for the money! One thing to note is the supplied Subwoofer is 'passive' which means is just a simple speaker in a box and needs to be connected to an amplifier to work. Most normal Subwoofers are 'active' and have their own Amplifier built-in so only need a line level output from an Amp.

Why does this matter for this pack? Well, it doesn't really except the Receiver supplied with this is only really designed to run with the supplied speakers and doesn't offer a line level output allowing a normal Sub to be connected, it only has the speaker level output marked 'Subwoofer' (http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/StaticFiles/PUSA/Images/Pr…) This isn't a problen at all as is but means this pack would be a poor choice if you're planning to use this as a base to build a decent system and replace the speakers with better ones later on.

Excellent bang-for-buck and all most people would ever need but if you want something to use now and slowly upgrade then spend a tiny bit extra. You can convert speaker level to line level relatively cheaply (ie. $20-$30) but better to spend that money now and get something 'better' to start with if that's what you have in mind.

    • I currently have a Logitech z5500 that I pulled out of storage recently as a living room setup and was thinking of using the receiver to upgrade as a 2.1 or 3.1 (decent bookshelf speakers, centre and a sub). Bummer.

  • are these speakers can be mounted on wall?

Reasonable distortion specs when running 2-Channel Stereo too… well, for a modern cheapie Amp anyway
    "60 Watts (8 ohms 40 Hz – 20 kHz 0.2 % Stereo FTC)"

    • Actually, and please someone correct me if I'm wrong- but those distortion levels are pretty bad aren't they? I have an onkyo 608 and at 125 watts at 6 ohms THD is 0.1%. And this amp is about two or three years old….

      • No, you're not wrong at all but you're also not comparing Apples with Apples. Your Amp probably cost more than this entire pack correct? Dollars equals lower THD, simple as that.

The only reason I class these as 'reasonable specs' is because I've seen some absolute shocking figures begin to creep in to the market over the last year or two… figures like 1-2% now seem to be the norm and even some up at 5 & 10% so 0.2% is pretty decent in comparison. Still, the way it sounds is totally up to the listener so these figures may not mean anything anyway, they're more just a very generalised guide used to make sure the advertised power output is realistic.

I enjoy my 2W per channel valve Amp so much better than my Class-A Solid State Amp on some tunes even though the Valve Amp has around 20% THD and the Class-A has less than 0.0002%. So many variables BUT it's still good to understand the differences in specs.

  • Just placed an order for one with pickup from store.. strange it doesnt take any payment.. hope it reserves stock! :) will be picking it up tonight from roselands Centro, glad its Thursday late nite shopping.

      • +2

        • +1

assuming DeviceX (e.g. PS3) is connected through HDMI to the Pioneer amp and your amp is connected via HDMI to the television, can HDMI signal passthrough the amp when it is in standby - such that DeviceX audio/video gets sent to the TV when amp is in standby mode? Does that make sense?

      • -1

Entry level receivers such as this one typically lack the HDMI standby passthrough.

  • Anyone know how they are compared to LOGITECH 5.1ch Surround Speakers Z906?

    • +1

The Z906 is probably better imo sound wise except that it lacks a receiver with all the inputs a typical user may want

  • Sold out everywhere around Dandenong except Cranbourne…looks like I'll be making the trip tomorrow.
*Cranbourne now sold out as well. I did get the confirmation saying it was reserved but now I'm starting to worry as I purchased it just before it was sold out.

  • Would you honestly recommend this for someone who is hooking this up into an entertainment cabinet, over TV speakers? (all speakers would be within cabinet, hence no actual surround sound)

    • It'd be much better than the tv speakers however you may experience vibration from the cabinet & perhaps too much sound coming from a fixed location. I'd recommend only connecting 2 speakers (front left+right) and leave the sub outside the cabinet

      • I'm sure it would also have a function to downconvert all sources to 2.1 channel so you wouldn't be missing sound effects, etc…

        • Yup, obviously don't emulate 5.1 sound with only 2.1 speakers :P

when will they make bluetooth a standard feature on av recievers?

  • ordered one of these this morning for delivery, has already shipped. How do dick smith deliver something like this, normal Australia post or courier as it is big?

    • Courier

  • Just set it up and so far I am very impressed. Once you spend a few minutes adjusting the settings and testing out the different audio modes such as DTS or Dolby Pro you can really hear some amazing sounds. Have yet to try it properly as it's quite late now but being able to switch between Xbox/PC with a simple push of the remote is amazing. Picked up PC sound fine as well btw.

  • Just bought one from JB. They price matched no problems. No stock in store at DS in and around bayside area.

Dicksmith piss me off today :(

Order mine on 12th click and collect, I didn't get any sms or a phone call on Friday or Saturday.

Called up today asking for my order said they have nothing in stock at the store. Then I gave my name to rep he said your order is been ready, I was like cool all good I'll pick it up today. First I wasted 30 mins looking for car park at Westfield Marion, SA. Once I get their no surprise they can't find my item. Then manager of the store said they can't find it, I said I spoke to one of the rep in the morning he said he will put it aside and again no surprise he already gone home for the day. I said call him, they said he is not answering his phone. They had 2 people looking around for 1 item for 25 mins like a bunch of idiots. While they are looking I'm receiving sms and email from DickSmith saying you order is ready to be picked up from Westfield Marion.

In the end manager said the guy you had word with this morning will call you tomorrow. I highly doubt that's goona happen.

What a Joke, never been this frustrated in my life. Anywhere to complaint for their ridiculousness.
