For those who missed the November BigW 1 day sale.

Cheap steel frame bikes that is really not designed for mountain biking. Comes with 6 speed Shimano rear deraileur and 26 inch tires. Good for a cheap bike for commuting around city / suburbs but probably not that great for anything else. May also be a good weekend project bike if you are into modifying these things.

See this OzBargain post for comments from previous sale: http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/121912

PS: They also have a 18 speed version that is available online only at $79 + postage, personally I don't think that is good value for money once freight is included.

  • might get one as a christmas gift…
    wat do you guys think?

    • Only if you don't like the person :)

We got one for my wife because she had not been on a bike for 10 years and wasn't sure if she wanted to start riding again.

For $60 it's fine for a pedal around the block a couple of times. As in the previous thread about this bike, the brakes are shocking and impossible to adjust properly so the pad isn't rubbing.

      • darn thats unfortunate then

        gotta look elsewhere

    • I bought a similar Big W cheapo a few years back. As Jon Shannow says, if she is using it for short trips for a bit of exercise these are fine, even better if you spend $15-20 on a cheap pair of road tyres to use instead of the nobby ones that come with it. I got 4 years out of mine taking the dog for a 2k run most days. The weight of it combined with the standard tyres made hills a bit of a chore though.

  • Saw it last week, was told it is Online Offer instore. Normal Price instore, Online with no click and collect option, compulsory +$30 postage

WOT???!!! Mountain Bike with NO suspension????

  • probably not that great for anything else.

Its great, with a chain, to stop your boat drifting. A very small boat, anyway.

Let's just call it mountain bike inspired. These aren't really designed for going downhill on trails.

Also, it's helpful to note that the original mountain bikes didn't really have any suspension. And lastly, all bikes are equipped with the best ever suspension system ever to be devised. They're called elbows and knees. :)

One last thing, with the exception of brakes that are actually broken, I've been fortunate enough to be able to adjust all of them to a satisfactory degree. The cheapest ones are so flexible though that the adjustment doesn't last… but at least they still work well enough for a few hundred kms.
