This is the perfect Tablet, allows you to watch full high def in one hand leaving the other free to perform other tasks!

    • +9

      Like cutting onions.

    • -1

Don't need to know what you use your tablet for, or hands for that matter?

      • +1

Reading your comment, it sounds like you are asking to know more.

    • +3

This is why you should never buy refurbs ;)

  • +9

Price including delivery is now $238.03
The A$ has been falling the last few days.
GG has the 32GB for $299.
Price for the 32GB at OW is $333.
With price match you pay $284.05
Imo, I would rather pay an extra $46 and enjoy the 32GB Nexus straightaway.

    • +1

Right this second, USD $211.89 = Au $229.55

You would most probably need to add a small transaction fee too.
Even so, I am with you and would prefer to pay extra for the larger storage size, have it today, and support your local retailers.

      • -1

You will need to go through the checkout process to get the final price which is A$238.03 including delivery.

        • +2

You don't have to accept their exchange rate. Just pay USD and use a card with no fees.

        • That US$ will get converted to A$ and atm the A$ is fetching only 92 cents.

        • 211.89/.92 = 230.32
          211.89/.9225 = 229.69

Thanks for pointing out the price match opportunity though. I too think that the 32GB version is a better product and with price match it is hardly worth buying that one from Amazon.

        • +1

          +1 - 28 Degrees Mastercard :)

    • How do you get price match for $284 ?
Is that from OW? If so, I thought they only matched local prices.

      Please explain.

      Thanks

don't forget currency exchange fee, and adaptor for the charger…

1080p res, 16gb storage, hmmmm. Fit one movie, if you're lucky?

    • +2

You're downloading the wrong movies if its 16Gb / movie

      • -2

That's (at least) how much space Full-HD MP4 are. Crappified versions are lower but that'll defeat the purpose.

      • +1

You must be forgetting space for OS, music, photos and apps?

I also don't go for those gimped heavily compressed rips.

      • +2

You're downloading the wrong movies if it isn't 12GB+

        • +6

There will hardly be any difference between 720 and 1080 rips on this thing. Hell, even DVDrips might look alright. On my Gen 1 Nexus 7, I recently watched a series in DVDrip and it looked 90% of a 720. The screen is just too small to tell much difference (obviously crappy low definition stuff won't look great, but decently ripped, full 480p DVDrips are a different story).

        • -2

I wouldn't be posting that if you don't understand bit rate and if your eyes can see the difference between a 4GB, 8GB and 12GB rip movie on a Nexus 7.

In fact, you're lying if you could tell the difference between an 8GB and 12GB movie on a Nexus 7 screen as it's impossible even on a 50" TV.

Heck, I couldn't see a difference with a 4GB compared to a 8GB on my TV, only on my PC monitor and it was minor.

If the movie is longer, say 2 to 3 hours, then you need 8GB, not 4GB.

Also, you can see the difference in action scenes where bit rate is concerned.

        • -2

I wouldn't be posting that if you can't see the different between a good rip and a bad rip.

Even on my PC I could see it clear as day the 4gb rip is horrid. The audio is bad and the pixels are blurred and as you said, the bit rate get so bad I couldn't bear to watch.

This is like the argument of 30fps vs 60fps. As it is obviously a difference but some people just won't notice and won't bother to notice.

    • just use external storage for the big files.

    • +1

Who needs internal storage when you've got a collection of usb sticks built up from the years of Ozbargaining!

    • +1

Threre is so much stupidity in this post and some of the replies. Obviously putting proper 1080p rips on this would be overkill. Those "crappified" versions actually suit portable devices quite well. Not to mention they usually have 2 channel audio tracks rather than the surround ones which would be wasted on this thing.

You can tell the difference 720p and 1080p as you move up to larger screens but on a 7 inch tablet it would be like searching for a needle in a haystack.

As for "wrong movies being less than 12gb" it really depends on who the encoder is. You can get great quality 720p films. Also who really wants to download every single movie in 1080p? What about those films for the kids or a relative/friend who really doesn't give a crap about HD?

If you are one of those people who like to stack on movies to watch on the go I would advise spending a little more for the 32gb.

      • I guess that would beg the question - why bother getting a 7" device with a 1080p display then?

Sometimes I want to move to USA just to avoid paying shipping.

    • +3

Though you would pay an additional $10-20 in tax

      • -2

But you wouldn't be paying GST

        • Wow, you really typed that.
My face just got palmed to death.

        • +2

import less than 1000 no GST?

opps, non related reply? comething cross my mind…

should say, you get to see more people shooting in US if you move there

        • you're not paying GST now

        • Ahh, I was talking about living in a certain country and buying goods from THAT country. not importing things. my bad.

        • -1

Same point. Each state in the US have different tax amount ranges from 0% -23% I believe. The tax are added in during checkout after you choose your state.

      • Depends which state.

Sometimes I want to move to USA just to avoid paying shipping.

Saves a few dollars on shipping - spends thousands more on health care :)

    • and loose the metric system? What are you, nuts?

  • That's "maths" with an 's'!!!

    • -1

Either is acceptable, whatever floats your boat

    • +2

      Math (US)
      Maths (UK)

      • Yes; Australia (usually) uses the UK English for business at least. Windows lets you decide what version you find acceptable though. Really annoys me when I see so many mispellings. Ie. Center instead of centre. Using US version speaks to me of someone who watches too many US serials.

  • Its marked as expired but its still selling for this price

    • Amazon was selling it and now they are out of stock.

      EDIT: Back in stock again.

    • Not sure who marked it, fixed :)

  • Just a warning on warranty, I'm told by ASUS that you'll need to pay the courier fees both ways to NSW to get it repaired if it's faulty if purchased outside Australia.

    • is free otherwise?

    • Last years model!

  • +6

    Thx OP, bought one.
7" is perfect for my gf. Not too big not too small. She get to have a 7inch wherever she goes.

    • does she use that 7" in public?

    • +4

Glad you can finally give her something bigger that she's used to ;)

  • I clicked the link and chose Amazon.com as the seller but when I tried to checkout, a warning message appeared: "We're sorry. The item Google Nexus 7 Tablet (7-Inch, 16GB, Black) by ASUS (2013) is no longer available from the seller you selected. To see if it's available from another seller, click here to return to the item's product detail page."

  • am interested interested in buying one ,but not tech savvy,so 16g or 32g
wifi or 3G,and is the 32g @ amazon good buying…..Help pls from more tech savvy ozb members.

    • 16gb vs 32gb is just storage. What do you plan on doing with it? There's nothing you can't do on a 16gb that you can do on a 32gb besides hold more files at once. It'd just mean rotating music/videos/movies more frequently on the 16gb.

Wifi vs 3G is just about whether you want to insert a sim card so that it always has the internet. I personally would just get wifi and if I ever need internet on the go then I would just make my phone a portable hotspot and tether to it.

Dunno about 32GB at amazon and if on sale. People were saying you could get the 32GB from good guys for $300.

  • GONE!

The 199 deal is no longer available.

Damn i had it in my cart and didnt check out when they were shipping to AUS for 211 US.

    • Back in stock at $199.99 with Amazon.com as the seller. It's gone in and out of stock a few times now, so it's worth checking back later if not initially available.

  • Excellent deal. What's a good case for it? Or does enclosing it in a case defeat it's compact size?

  • Great, just got one!

  • I miss the above parity XR… QQ

  • At $228 this is a pretty good deal. Mind you the tegra note 7 looks like a good alternative too, since it seems to have better cpu/gpu for its $199, albeit with a few trade-offs.

trade off 1. screen res. get this low res carp outta my face :)

      • Its funny how people over on xda are forcing certain games to run at 1280x800 in order to get them to run smooth. Disappointing though that Nvidia had to cheap out on the screen when it has the hardware to push the most demanding games at full res, its really the only area the N7 has a significant advantage.

  • My order came up to AUD 238.03 with the exchange rate :/
Why is everyone else getting $228?
Also, the Nexus 7 is now back to $218.99US, so it should be marked as expired.

    • The AUD has been dropping significantly in the last 72 hrs. People get the best exchange rate using Citibank Plus Debit Card without Amazon conversion.

    • Odd, it was marked as expired yesterday when the price changed.
