I think the finless rom has fixed the overheating, especially on 1080p. You need to use your own power pack as those shipping with AU adaptor don't supply enough power when running 1080p and will result in restarts.
I've got one and it runs XMBC in 1080p without any problems. Comes rooted so you can flash a rom easily enough.
I bought a Tronsmart HDMI for my sister from a recent deal on Ozbargain and I use a Minix Neo G4 for myself. Comparing both I find Minix G4 gives a rock solid performance without any heating issues etc. I have tried running XBMC on both, and it runs very smooth on Neo G4.
I will buy a Minix product any day as they have a great development support who push out the firmwares enhanced with new features almost every month.
Probably look into their latest product Neo X7 which is almost double the price of this, but is an ultimate entertainment box.
These products seem attractive but I guess they will become pain over time. Reading ur post it gives me some confidence to have a look at minix neo X7.
Hope this will make the cheap AKAI TV just bought from OfficeWorks from the other deal, a smart TV?
Need to buy a Bluetooth keyboard as well. That's another $24.

I have this exact model but problem with this particular stick will be its revised version known as v3 and most of the roms are for v1 mk908.
It's pain to get it working as there ids only 3 Roms available for this and you can't over lock the kernel for v3.
After trying finless rom 1.4,1.6&1.6a i finally got it stable on official tronsmart rom .xbmc works good and some games also work and you can use your android phone as joystick and remote.
Now performance is good and this stick is fast but you do need a 2amp charger as with the official charger this thing just keep rebooting after few minutes.
So final words from my side is if u are not a tech head avoid it
But if u r desperate and bit of tech savy then you will get it working for sure
Best stick at this point is k42 or t42 with plenty of support and working built in cameraLOL their site suggested USB fan…ppl who bought these also bought a fan… :)
It's a bit strange that the AUD price is less than the USD price. Does anyone know how reliable these things are? Any heat issues being quad core?
