I predict a lot of -ve's coming this way.

The compensation makes no sense, if you have a 6 month or annual ticket, what use is a daily ticket to you?

    • +2

Yeah, it's kind of superfluous isn't it. I guess you could just give it to someone you know who travels less occasionally. I just like getting free stuff, maybe I'd pin it on my wall and just look at it for a while :-p

Yeah i'm on a yearly. I just save them and give them to rellies or the gf if we go to the footy.

You don't have to apply for one if you feel it's of no value to you. Some people do in these tough times. A Daily Zone 1+2 costs almost $10.

  • I clamed for the March on 2/Apr, which are 2 daily tickts. But still not receive anything.

    • Can you claim late ticket compensation?

    • If u sent in a metcard that was valid in march, they will not send u anything.
You need to send in a metcard that was valid ON 2nd of March. ie the monthly metcard which u validated in FEBRUARY!!!

(Thinking about it, not many will keep their expired metcard for an ENTIRE month just to know if connex is giving compensations)

  • Also of note - You can claim tickets for up to two months after the end of the penalised month.
They were also late in March so you might be able to claim for that month too!

good find, quite often people miss these sorts of deals that take advantage of the fact that not everyone will knoe about it and save money.

  • Thanks for the notice. Even though I can't use it, I always print out the form for my friend who has a monthly ticket.

  • I have a monthly ticket but I only use it for trams. How will they know if I only use my ticket for trams ?

    • They won't know.

    • no worries man.just send your ticket with the claim form, who knows?

    deal itself is not bad.
ppl will be angry with the connex.obvisouly the service provided by the connex is not up to the "standard" and two daily ticket are definitely not sufficient for compensating the time wasted by the commuters.government should not renew the contract with the connex and should make the stronger tender such as Hong Kong MTR to take over the messy train network.

  • not a deal. this is compensation for poor service. a true 'bargain' would be a public transport system that wasn't so flawed

  • -8

This is not a bargain. The ticket price is far too expensive for the services we are getting.

    • +1

we're not talking about the ticket price we originally paid for here, we're talking about the free ticket…

go get urself a motor vehicle if you don't want to pay for the public transport services

  • -4

wow one free ticket. big deal.

  • this is why they're delaying the new ticketing system, because then they'll actually have to refund alot more money. who can be bothered filling out a form for a free ticket.

I don't understand why people feel the need to vote negative on something that they don't use. It's not like the person who takes the time to post this deal are getting anything out of it, spamming or trying to defraud you. I'm pointing this out because such negative attitude might discourage future posting of good deals that we will all miss out on.

    • +2

Totally agree. Don't shoot the messenger. Only if the bargain wasn't TRUE, that deserves a negative. Although I do not get the free ticket (I always buy mine x10 daily, afraid I'll lose my the entire yearly card!), but I sincerely think this is a good post, coz not everyone knows about this.

      • Thanks for the positive feedback guys. The trick with these types of sites is to not take too much personally. If my post helped one person - that's great. If it helped a number of people it's even better. I do respect people's rights to vote negative and I don't take it personally. Rest assured, I will post again :-)

  • The reason why u do not receive your FREE metcard is because most people request compensation for the WRONG month. Hahaz…

When connex and yarra trams say "valid during the month of …." what it really is saying (if u bother finding the terms and conditions) is "valid for use on the FIRST WEEKDAY of the COMPENSATION month".

So, to claim April's compensation, you need a suitable metcard that was valid ON 1st of April, not one that was valid DURING April.

In the case of march compensation, u need a metcard valid on the 2nd of March.

    • bsmksg,
I don't think you got it right. What you are saying if I bought and validate a monthly ticket on 2nd of April, I will not be able to claim it even though I have used the system for 96.667% of the month and most likely have been inconvenient by the late trains. I used to catch the train everyday to work but not anymore. From what I understand, you can make a claim as long as you have a validated monthly, 6 monthly or yearly ticket that is valid for use on any 1 day in the compensated month.

By saying that, it is most likely that most regular monthly ticket holders will be able to claim twice as they will have 2 consecutive monthly tickets that covers parts of the compensated month. Having said that, yes, I have done it before by claiming twice and did receive a free daily ticket for each claim. Just make sure you use different names for both claims.

I don't think they have been penalized enough compare to the increase revenue due to the higher usage. So everyone with monthly tickets, go ahead and claim twice. You don't need postage so it's worth a try. You only need an envelope (no postage required) and an A4 paper.

      • It is mentioned EXPLICITLY on metlink's and connex websites that it has to be valid on the FIRST WEEKDAY of the compensation month.

        Go to this link: http://www.connexmelbourne.com.au/index.php?id=75
Quote (paragraph 8): "Customers with a periodical ticket of four weeks or more, valid on the FIRST WEEKDAY of an eligible compensation month"
(I have emailed Connex and this has been confirmed, unless u have an unusual case where your ticket expires for example, on the 1st or 2nd day of the month)

I know it is really stupid, cos no one would actually keep an expired metcard for an entire month just to find out if connex is giving compensation. (In fact, i think connex tries their best not to compensate)

AND ALSO, connex knows that MOST people would send in the WRONG month's metcard, which is why they announce it so openly (as they do not need to compensate u if u send in the wrong card).

And btw, i do claim every month since January.
January was a special case where you could claim TWICE as there were TWO compensations being made, one for 1st Jan, and another for 25th Jan. (25th Jan being FREE TRANSPORT DAY). That was an exception though.

        • Well, my bad. I did not read those T&C. They might have changed the conditions as I really did get a free daily ticket for both my claims a while ago.

It's interesting that this requirement is not printed on the claim form as this is really the main requirement to be eligible to make a claim and on the page where the April performance is published, ( http://www.connexmelbourne.com.au/index.php?id=81 )it only says "This month, each customer who used a monthly, six-monthly or yearly ticket on our train system in April 2009 is eligible for a free daily ticket for the equivalent zone/s as compensation."

So I reckon it's worth a try if you don't need to keep your expired ticket.

  • Time for connex to go, they are horrible. Try SMRT, much better.

    • Nah… MTR is better. SMRT is good as there are specific tracks for each train line. However, in melbourne, all train share the same set of tracks (city loop), therefore SMRT is pretty untested.
