i feel as if i should really neg this but seeing that apple stopped making 4S iPhones when the 5 was released it might be hard to find them cheap (new) anymore

    • thats one expensive half bitten piece of fruit! but if you only have eyes for apple then its not too bad of a deal…..still couldn't justify paying for this.

  • -7

    Good deal

    • -4

I always neg someone's comment with a note.

    • +4

for same price, can get state of the art alternative.

      • +1 Here…

  • +6

Oh, 4S. I initially read 5S, hence the possitive vote. Hah. In this case, definitely not worth it for a two year old phone. Massive ripoff, actually.

    • +6

you can revoke your positive vote

  • -7

What could you do with the 8GB …iPhone?

    • +8

      Make phone calls :p

        • -1

          Down voting ozbargainer* please :)

        • Heh.

  • +9

Can someone explain why this is a deal?

    • +1

      since it is an iPhone?

  • +13

Not quite a deal, even less so a bargain. You're better off getting a nexus 5!

    • +1

Don't tell it to the fanbois.

  • +8

If it's not cheaper anywhere else and it's what you're looking for then it's a bargain, especially if there's something you're looking at already at Dick Smiths for around $100

  • +6

Since Apple and Telstra are selling this phone for $529 so getting $100 Dick Smith card is a kind of good thing. Even Kogan is selling it for $529. If we compare along with Android phone, it is definitely not a bargain. Considering iPhone handsets price, it can be considered a deal.

  • BONUS $100 Gift Card this weekend only. Offer ends 10th November 2013. Offer only available In-store.
    And you can't check stock.

  • I read several people negging the post, yet not a second valid reasoning for the neg.

No, it isn't really a deal, an older generation phone at a high price point, close to that of the new generation model and the voucher only weighs in if you were already getting something from dicksmith or need something they sell (given their prices are average for the goods they actually have stock on they most likely aren't the first point of call for most people).

But even if that is the case, you must give a valid reason for a neg not just "meh" or "You're better off getting a nexus 5!" or "for same price, can get state of the art alternative". None of those are valid reasons for a neg.

  • I think the key word is "if you want an Apple Phone", and don't want to pay top dollar for the latest and greatest fruit phone, then this might be a good option.

It is a deal if you can't find a similar product at a cheaper price elsewhere, whether it is a good value for each of us depends on us individually.

    • +1

but for how much longer will it be compatible with new app's and updates?

  • +2

The $100 gift card also applies to 5c and 5s

    That's the deal I would've posted.

  • +7

    Absolutely terrible value.

  • -2

does anyone know if this can be upgraded to icecream sandwich ?

  • +1

Anyone who wants only apple then it's a good price for iPhone 4S with gift card.

  • +3

Miss-used downvotes everywhere. Needs a mod to come clean up.

Thats great you think the Nexus 5 is a good phone. That isnt what this is about. If someone on a previous model iPhone and wanted a new/replacement model, this could be a good option. It works for someone heavily invested in IOS but dosent want to shell out 5S/C money.

Point is, is that for Aussie stock IOS device, this isnt too bad.

The only thing that pisses me off more than Apple fanboi's is the Android hordes.

    • Let them go nuts with the negs, I bet the real keyboard warriors get worked up when they want to neg someone and they've met their daily quota. :)

I understand this is a good 'deal' for a 4S… but thats like saying $1000 is a good deal for a virtu phone. This phone is outdated and overpriced - its 2 generations old now! Not a bargain! Pay a bit more and get a 5C if you need to spend less! Or even check out a used one on ebay and reduce landfill of old phones!

    • Depending on what you use it for, the 4S is fine. Sure it wont run the most maxtream Android apps etc, but can you show me a cheaper, new IOS phone being sold from a major retailer?

For a 4S, this is a good price

If the 4S is now, in general, a good purchase is a different question.

To be fair, some people prefer the iPhone 4/4S size and glass design to the iPhone 5/5S/5C size and design, so to them, this may be a bargain.

Nonetheless, personally i think even the nexus 4 at $299 beats the crap out of any iPhone.

  • +1

I don't think iPhone 4s worth $400+ (many 1 years old flagship phone selling under $400), but if this is the lowest price for an new iPhone 4s in the market, I won't neg this. Not all people want to learn new OS, some people just want to use something they already know. They may even prefer 4s's size than 5c.

  • If you MUST have an iPhone then it's a pretty good deal. The phone is still very capable from what I've seen (bought one for the missus 2 years ago) despite some of its shortcomings.

    • +2

The phone is still very capable from what I've seen

The question remains as to how long that'll hold true, though. A lot of users reported a lot of bugs and lag when updating their 4's and 4S's to iOS 7 - and while some of that can be put down to a x.0 release, the OS is much heavier than it was before graphics-wise. With 512MB of RAM, I'd have a hard time recommending this to anyone, since it'll likely age very quickly from this point on.

I'm not negging, but it's something to consider. The buy-in price for a newer model is much higher, of course, but it usually works out to be a better move if you take into account the scrap value and depreciation, IMO.

      • +1

Fair enough. I'm still rocking a 3 year old htc desire HD, so maybe my definition of "very capable" is very different to everyone else's =)

      • every update apple put out seems to make this phone worse. ios7 - the slow-mo update!

  • +2

Might be a 'good' price, but its still not a good deal.

  • +1

Tons of other phones have better value than this, you don't have to have an Apple.

    • Dont have to have a $400 LG Android machine either, I dont understand your point?

Next Android thread I'm going in to point out how much of a rip off they are because you get get a Windows Phone for $150

  • +1

I don't think it deserves a neg if you cannot find it cheaper elsewhere. If a merc c class advertised for $50k drive away is a real bargain for those in search for one even it might not be good value for money for most Holden lovers.

    • +2

Its all relative. If you are still paying $50k for a TWO YEAR OLD model C class that has already been surpassed twice over with a less than 5% discount (off your next Merc purchase), then it is still not a bargain according to your logic. Buying an iPhone 4S (low end) for the price of the 5C or an LG G2 (ie. STATE OF THE ART)is just a crime.

Just because it has a fruit symbol on it does not make it a Bargain.

Dont forget - $100 discount card is only for DSE. Not really a $100 off

      • I agree iPhone 4s for $529 with a free $100 dse gift card is a rip off still but like i said not value for money but a bargain for those looking for an iPhone 4s not an LG or iPhone 5c.

  • Still waiting for the pomegranate phone

  • +1

As plenty of others have said, not a good deal even for an iPhone. The 5C 16GB here is a lot better for $525: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/122396. No $100 card, but double the internal storage, significantly updated internals and a lot better resell value.
