Washburn Acoustic Guitar $166 (+ $18 Delivery), RRP Normally $349 @ JB Hi-Fi

100

Was hunting for an acoustic guitar for a beginner and came across this. It looked like good value given it's a factory scoop. Guitars in the $100 range are normally pretty crap.

  • Good price - most places are upwards of $250. Can't comment on the overall quality of the acoustic though.

  • Do you know if it has steel or nylon strings? All I can find is that it comes with D'Addario strings but as far as I know they make steel and nylon so not very helpful.

Also can anyone comment on the monterey set they sell as well? Would it be significantly better sounding than say the cheapy aldi recently had?

I'm looking for one for my daughter for Christmas (they have guitar club at school). She won't notice the difference, but the nicer it sounds, the more pleasant my life will be ;)

based on the photo + acoustic in the name i'd say steel.

      Hi Helenn,

      It's definitely steel strings.

I haven't played this specific guitar, but I prefer Washburns in general to Monterey guitars. I think it's a good deal.

Either brand will destroy the guitars I've seen at Aldi. I think that your daughter "will" notice the difference, as the very el cheapo guitars can suffer from all sorts of issues including high action (harder to play), poor quality bridge and tuning pegs (don't stay in tune) and can sound very muddy (ie crap). Any of these things can discourage a person from playing guitar.

I'm a pretty active guitarist and have helped many people buy their first guitars, if need some more help just email me.
