  • OOoooo very tempting 2!!!

At $129 delivered temptation was too high! Just got one!…

I already have an iPad and Galaxy tab. Might use this one for my toilet reading. Some people have magazines to read, others have tablets…

Oh man so wanna buy, but also wanna upgrade my ipad 3 to a sexy new ipad air soon too. Must resist

  • Mine just stopped working.

    • refurbish stock? 32gb version?

heard from many ozbargainer that the 32 gig version somewhat better quality…..

  • good price. Ordered 1 !!!

  • wow what a great buy just got one lol

  • How do you apply the discount if paying with Paypal
Has message: "To use this voucher you must set a payment method"
    Did I miss something?

    • Before you finalise payment (step 4) click in box on left side "Redeem Gift…"
Add OCT1310 there and the $10 credit is applied

      • Would be good to be able to use the express checkout feature, but $10 is $10… I got suckered as well…

    • +1

I had to create a logon and set up a payment method in the 'my account' settings before it would let me apply the promo code. ie I reckon you need to set up paypal as your payment method in the account settings, then it should let you enter the promo code and apply it, then you choose to check out with paypal.

  • Damm it, dont even want one but I ought it anyway

  • Has anyone previously purchased Asus approved refurbished products - Do they look new? Wonder if these were the ones which had pixel issues?

Also am I right in saying Asus would have only replaced whatever parts which were faulty, meaning you could be buying an unit with a used battery if the screen was the only thing faulty.

eff it I just bought one!

    • I bought a refurb Asus laptop (F55A) for $299 from oo.com a couple of weeks back. It was supplied without the usual packaging, but is otherwise indistinguishable from new and works perfectly.

  • So I guess my used but still pristine Nexus 7 is worth, like, 90 bucks now? The Nexus 7 is the Ford Falcon of the tablet world. Great bang for buck, but shocking resale value.

    • +1

Tech and cars - both are wasting assets. If you want resale value buy antiques, art or houses - and then wait a long time.

      • Yes, but the resale value of the Nexus 7 is particularly bad. No doubt it's primarily due to market saturation and the frequent great deals on refurbished units that result from it.

    • +1

The re-sale value is still quite reasonable - I got $150 for my refurb recently through Gumtree.

I think the trap that we sometimes fall into is that everyone who is interested in tech spends 23 hours of their life on Ozbargain like us, but more often that not they are only comparing prices to retail as opposed to what we see on here.

I often get higher prices for my used tech on Gumtree/Ebay than what I see available on here new.

Shhhh, don't tell anyone about our secret society.

  • Anyone know if this has inbuilt GPS?
And any chance a 3G dongle will work with the microusb port.

    • -4

      Should have 3g

      • Doesn't have inbuilt 3g. This is the wifi only version.

    • +1

It has GPS and does work with some 3G dongle but requires root access.

  • Link is not working - can anyone confirm please? Also what is the normal price of this tab? I am new to Android world

    EDIT: Working now

    • Wasn't working for me either. I just searched for the product on the site and found it.

  • Great deal. Bought one, thanks ! Now I have 2. I was a bit bummed I missed the last deal for $129 - but that was for the 16gb and this is for the 32gb, so that's great. This is less than half the price I paid for mine new a year or so ago. Great tablet.

    • This item is sold out

  • +3

Umm'ed and arr'ed to long and just missed out! Bummer. :\ Next time..

    • Haha that happened to me last time too.
This time I hardly even ummed.

  • +3

Seems to be sold out: "We're sorry, there is not enough stock available to process this order"

    • This item is sold out

  • Great price on the 3G… But shipping puts me off, any chance price matching to somewhere?

  • +2

don't forget to plus Scotty's post as well if you used the coupon code.

  • There's another model here?

    http://www.graysoutlet.com.au/computers-electronics/computer…

Not sure what the difference is but it's $129.

I'd get one but I've already got a galaxy tab 7.7 and an iPad and a Kindle. Too many tablets for my own good… :D

    • Delivery is not free for that one & it's 16gb

  • Need one but missed :(

  • +4

Not worth the trouble when come to Graysonline and warranty.

  • Just got mine delivered just now.

Very impresed with the speed that Greys sent it out. Looking at the device its brand new! I don tsee any scuff marks for nothing. Not even on the charger or cable!

    Very happy with it!

    • Aaaaaan now mine is screwed.

Used it a few times, then all of a sudden it went off. Turned it back on now all I get is the rainbow 'X' appearing on the screen. Tried turning on and off a few times but no such luck. Just stays on the X.

      Not happy!

Spent 40mins on hold to Greys, they will organize someone to call me in a couple of days so Toll will come out, pick up the package, then they MIGHT send me a replacement if they have any in stock.

      • Ohhh noo. Mine screwed too. Did the Jelly Bean upgrade which it was prompting for. Went out for half an hour. Came back - stuck on the boot rainbow X too. Restarted. Stuck on Rainbow X again.

        • Contact Asus…..

  • Likewise. Great deal.

  • Anyone having problems with the touchscreen????

    • Mine seems fine. Have entered wifi password, logged into google account, changed lock screen, desktop icons etc - works like normal so far.

      • Hi belbo. My device is stuck in the X screen. How did you fix yours?
I've factory reset and wiped the cache partition - still no go :(
Looks like the only option left is this - http://www.wugfresh.com/nrt/

    • My touchscreen doesn't function normally. The the statusbar on the top left keeps coming down spontaneously. After that the touchscreen was responding spontaneous without even touching it. And after a while the screen doesn't respond at all..

      • You should return it - has a 1 year warranty.

      • Sounds like faulty hardware to me.
But do a factory reset first to make sure it isn't software related.

        • In the "deal is back" thread (as per msmhw below) someone says that the screen issue is related to TRIM (no idea how) and is fixed with the Android 4.3 update.

  • the deal is back in stock

  • Shows out of stock, Can any one see it in stock

  • +2

To everyone who gets the X screen after updating to JB - I solved it by installing the image manually.

Image can be downloaded here - https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/images#nakasi

    Instructions - http://www.androidpolice.com/2013/08/10/how-to-restore-your-…

You will get the 'you may void the warranty' warning when you attempt to unlock the bootloader, but hey it only says you MAY, not WILL :D Also you can always go back and relock the bootloader once you done - meaning Asus will never know you did this.

    Credit goes to Its4me. Thanks!

    • Had you already enabled USB debugging before the ota upgrade? I hadn't. Based on what I'm reading it looks like I'm stuck.

      • I didnt enable USB debugging and it still worked ok.

        • Thank you !

Before seeing your post I had tried to sort this out using other guides which involved side loading the image but they didn't work - probably because they needed usb debugging - or the unlocked bootloader.

I also had the problem that the Nexus wasn't being recognised properly by Windows so I had to find out how to install the (ADB Composite) driver. Note that it is recognised by W7 64 as a Samsung Android Phone.

So - $129 and quite a few hours later I have a working Nexus 7.

          Thanks again

          belbo

        • Glad it all worked. Been using it since yesterday, cant fault the device!

FYI this usb driver worked for me - http://developer.android.com/sdk/win-usb.html#top

    • Mark for future reference…

  • Got mine today from the second deal, its look like new. Updated without problem.
The screen look a little pixelly, but may because I am used to look at the retina screens.
Otherwise everything perfect. Will updated if I notice any problem.

  • was playing with the device and found this tool which do everything for you (unlock- restore to image- root-relock)

    http://www.wugfresh.com/nrt/

its easy to use I just rooted my device

  • Ran like a champ until…
When it was updating to 4.3 it came up with an error message and froze. Tried every instruction to recovered it but no go. Looks like it is stuck on 'X' for good.
So, any ideas where I return it to?

    • Press the power button until it turns off, then press the power button together with the Volume down button for about 3 seconds.

If it turns on by itself, do it again and this time before it turns on again press the volume down button for 3 seconds together with the power button. This will get you to the bootloader (it has a big green Start on the top right corner.

The bootloader is locked and you will need to unlocked it.

Follow the instruction here and you should be fine:
      http://www.androidpolice.com/2013/08/10/how-to-restore-your-…

I have helped my mate to get out of this exact situation. He is now using the paranoid rom:

Yep, this happened to me too.
The easiest fix, since we don't care about nuking files on the device, is to (assuming you're using Windows)
        1) download the Nexus Image from here
https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/images (you want the 4.3 nakasi, not nakasig)
        Then while that's downloading
        2) put your Nexus into Fastboot mode (Turn it off by holding Power down for ~10 secs, then press and hold volume down and Power together)
        3) connect the nexus 7 to the PC with the USB cable
        4) download the Google USB driver package from here http://developer.android.com/sdk/win-usb.html
        5) follow the USB driver install guide here http://developer.android.com/tools/extras/oem-usb.html#Insta…
        6) move the Nexus Factory Image file into its own folder
        7) unzip the Nexus Factory Image file twice. You may need to install something like 7-zip to do this..
        8) double click on the flash-all.bat file and wait until your nexus reboots.
(DO Not Pull Out the USB cable from the computer or Tablet until the flash is completed!!!)

Annoying but better than the hassle of returning and waiting.

I noticed that out of the box mine appeared to think it was a 3G version (had the Mobile network indicator in the status bar, showing zero bars of course).. I half suspect that these units were mistakenly flashed with the 3G firmware when they are only WiFi models.

        • Thanks, but you forgot the step to install the 'fastboot' command (part of SDK).

You can also use linux or osx, just run flash-all.sh instead of flash-all.bat .
Less hassle with drivers and zip software.

        • So I did..
(probably cause I already had it installed..)
I use the minimal adb and fastboot package from xda
          https://www.google.com.au/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=we…

        • Thanks, excellent instructions.
My unit worked fine until I upgraded to 4.3 using the OTA download.
I noticed the mobile indicator out of the box as well but didn't bother checking the build status to confirm. That would explain why the OTA patch to Android 4.3 fails. Can't believe these were refurbished and sent out with the wrong build!

        • They were still sending these out a couple of months after the problem was reported.
How can they not have been recalled?

ASUS must be getting flooded with warranty claims.

    • See hpkv's post and correspondence with myself about 5 posts up, which looks like it references the same link donkeykong has given you below. That's the solution.

  • This is coming from the guy who BOOT FAILED this Nexus 7 TWICE yesterday trying to follow that AndroidPolice instructions. Maybe it's my English comprehension that's the problem but wasted at least two hours trying to follow that tutorial. Also, the bootloader is in conflict with the image, 4.13 vs 4.23 so I screwed the tablet. Pulling my hair and thinking I bricked the tablet. Good thing I found out about NXRT/NRT.

Use the Nexus Root Toolkit from this site http://www.wugfresh.com/nrt/ The tutorial videos are in that link as well. This app has a FOOL PROOF, easy to understand UI.

Now, I used said software but getting "Mismatch" error. So what I did is use 4.2.1 Android to get my Nexus working again then downloaded the updated OTA. Did not have any issues once updated to 4.3.

    • Hurray for people posting what they did for solving the issues they find.
All too many posts asking how do I fix this and then saying they fixed it with no explanation at all.
So thanks to you for being a good person.

  • kind of sad….. took them 4 weeks to "repair". sent me "new" unit. and it's still faulty of other sort……(no sound, flicker screen)

    never again.

    • Its the fault of ASUS, not Grays, isn't it?
I would avoid buying anything from Grays without a manufacturer warranty.

I've made warranty claims on a couple of more expensive items bought from Grays. Had excellent service both times - from suppliers, not Grays!
