  • Note: not what people usually expect when they hear "WQHD". This is 2560x1440 not 3440x1440.

    • +5

      That's exactly what I'd expect. QHD/WQHD = 2K, UHD = 4K

      • @Captain Cheapskate

        I am indeed.

Update: Not what many people expect when they hear "WQHD", however misguided.

Seems very sensible for a W prefix to indicate "wider than the ones without a W".

I acknowledge (W)QHD on the chart but I'm not happy about it.

        • Fair enough! Agreed that it is a superfluous addition (likely why it was changed since release).

I guess I automatically attribute WQHD as that was the terminology when 2K was released and I was quite interested at the time.

You are mistaking WQHD for UWQHD. the later is 2k(1440p) in ultrawide format

  • this vs this from just some hours ago?

    • asus 96% dci p3 coolermaster 90% easy choice

      • reckon its worth pulling the trigger on or wait for a better deal for a 2k monitor ?

      • +2

Err it's a lot more complicated than that, as you're comparing a monitor from 5 years ago with one released last year. The response time performance on this ASUS sucks. A little extra colour gamut does not make up for that.

Additionally, the Cooler Master has a new kind of anti-glare coating that's well regarded. It's a non-contest, just not in the way you expected.

  • monitor is G-SYNC compatible not G-SYNC to save anyone a stitch up

    • Whats the difference?

      • +2

G-SYNC has a nvidia chip in the screen so it can connect with the gpu

compatible is just free sync for nvidia

I've got this monitor, its good :) and its got a nice 10 bit IPS Panel (8bit + FSR) and brightness is more than good enough
Only issue with it is the stand could be higher. A simple fix with a new stand or monitor riser.

This is a very old panel. Is it still good in 2025?

    • I mean it looks good to me. No issues, text is clear, motion is fine (I'm sure there's better now though) The stand doesn't allow for up and down. Its pretty much entry level IPS 165Hz..The selling point for me is that its 10 bit IPS Panel (8bit + FRC)

  • I would hope the newer versions of this monitor are quite a bit better than the older one I have. I just have a VG27A that I bought in August 2020, and the lighting is really inconsistent and the bleed from the sides is really bad and really obvious in a dark room.

    edit

Goddamn, I paid $699 for mine back then.

    • VG27AQ1A purcahsed 1 month ago.. no IPS glow. motion looks good in games.. i have a 65" LG OLED TV so i know what smooth looks like… and my primary home gaming PC monitor is a Dell G3223D 32" 1440P 165Hz screen with a 32" Viewsonic VX3258 VA 144Hz..as the secondary monitor.

This cheap ASUS its almost as good as the Dell.. way better then the Viewsonic VA Panel but that is very old now.
All my Panels and TV at 10Bit

  • I remember when a monitor like this was $800-$1200 dollars. Times have changed.
