Would be awesome if they are also cinavia free. Anybody can confirm?

    • Didn't know cinavia existed*. Whilst I'm impressed technically, I think I just decided not to buy movies ever again.

*This is not a statement to say that it's unobtrusive. Its simply that I buy things without watching them.

Watermarking is a useful technology for identifying pirates.
But using it to stop consumers from exercising fair-use format shifting is corporate evil.

        • +2

I identify pirates by the eye patch. A parrot is also a give away.

  • Will this playback BR Iso's?

    • Most likely will work for any movies which don't have cinavia. Only way I'd see this selling well would be to disable cinavia. However this is now required to be enabled in all players manufactured recently.

      • So is region locking for blu-ray, no?

  • +6

I'd take my Pioneer BDP-160 BR player that I got for $148 over this crap any day.

    • +2

      Or PS3? =)

    • +1

Don't think the Pioneer BDP-160 is region free for Blurays mate.

    • Can you tell me if the BDP-160 plays MKV files over ethernet/DLNA? I have a BDP-140 and MKV files on my NAS are 'hidden'… so unplayable. Thinking of upgrading to the 160.

      • According to this review of the Pioneer BDP-160 player yes it does play MKV over Ethernet as well as supporting NAS drives. It's also DLNA certified. It supports other goodies like streaming media content from a smartphone direct to the player through Wi-Fi Direct and also being able to use the smartphone to control the player. It's a much better player than this Kogan crap although it's not Blu-ray region free but it is DVD region free. JB HI-FI sells the black BDP-160 player for $148. Basically it's superior to previous models.

        • Thanks…will look at upgrading purely to get full MKV support. Big fan of Pioneer gear :-)

People seriously waste money on Kogan crap

    • +1

especially when Kogan scams people all of the time, everyone here threatens 'never buy from Kogan EVER EVER AGAIN….. ooooh like, cheap blu rays'

    • +1

Yeah, from my experience Kogan is no better than the usual cheapo brands JB, Harvey Norman or Big W have.

      • -1

Sometimes even worse. Everything Kogan I've bought is just crap.

        • bought a $9 delivered PVR and still working good

bought a 32GB USB3.0 and still working good & fast

didn't try their TV or anything else, but so far my experience with their product is ok-good!

The real question is what actual formats does the player play. If it can play lots of formats then it could be considered a relatively cheap wifi enabled media player with BR for fun.

    • That was my thinking. Kogan is definitely not the brand I would go for, but if you want region free there is not much choice in a big name brand (without expensive mod). Simple mod big name units just don't exist anymore.

I was also pleased to see WiFi, DLNA and MKV support.

There are plenty of out-of-the-box region free players.

        • +1

Not plenty, the vast majority are not region free for blu-ray.

        • +3

Hey Claggs, do you want to provide a few links to name brand out of the box region free players?

Or are you just talking about region free DVD?
Region free bluray is pretty hard to find, so would love to know your suggestions.

        • He must be confusing DVD region free for Blu-ray region free.

        • anyone know if the JB Hi-Fi brand(Soniq) Blu-Ray player is region free?
I have one of their earlier version….

        • It's not Blu-ray region free. No Blu-ray player that JB Hi-Fi currently sells is region free Blu-ray.

        • I seen it somewhere said it could turn the region code to free…….but I couldn't find the discussion anymore……

  • The price is very good for the features but has anyone seen its user interface?
I picked up an Audiosonic 3D bluray player and find it plays everything I have thrown at it. However, the UI looks like it was developed on my old Commodore 64.

DO NOT BUY A BLU RAY PLATER FROM KOGAN!!!

we bough three recently and all three have failed!!!
    Their warranty is a JOKE!!!!

if it was free i still wouldn't buy it!

    • Thanks Jimbobaus for the tip.

    • +1

Just a slight correction if it was free you wouldn't need to buy it.

    • If it was free you'd gift it to someone who thinks they like you…
